  1. The low white cell count is common for those with autoimmune disorders. I know because I have had life long low WBC's. That is not a problem as long as a poerson isn't getting sick all the time. You have to sustain a lot of damage to the small intestine before you trip the EMA. This is why kids rarely come up with a positive....it's more normally seen...
  2. I see from your signature that you are also allergic to soy and soy is another item used in their products. It may not have been gluten that made you feel ill. This place is a shared facility but claim they use good manufacturing practices to segregate products....which may or may not be successful. The only way to have your question answered about certified...
  3. The PBJ sandwich remark was the best! Truer words were never spoken! Positive ANA can be from any number of AI diseases. I have a very high ANA that is coming down quite nicely the longer I am gluten free. It was in the ridiculous range. I do not have any symptoms of anything these days but have been gluten-free for a long time....8 years. It really...
  4. I am guessing that you meant "defined" by Coeliac? If that's the case, and you feel you can disregard it at any point, all I can say is....."Good luck with that"!
  5. The only thing I can add is that many schools and colleges now do not require the Gold Standard diagnosis as proof of an allergy/intolerance and will accommodate based on parental request. My niece is not diagnosed but based on my diagnosis, and her massive symptoms, she went gluten free and never looked back. Both her high school and college did not require...

    ARCHIVED Risoterria

Now isn't that a beautiful thing!
  7. Oh.......you are really having a tough and stressful time right now, aren't you? No wonder your gut is feeling poorly. Sometimes stress can make you feel worse than a glutening. My condolences to you and your family on your terrible loss and I hope all goes well for your family regarding the funeral. That is so hard but you will get through it all and...

    ARCHIVED Risoterria

I went to NY/NJ over the Memorial Day week-end and made a bee-line for Risoterria as it was so close to the hotel I was staying in. All I can say is.....if you want to go into carbo Nervana, do not miss a trip here when in town! The risotto is phenomenal and perfectly prepared and they have about 25 different choices of combinations and offer 3 types...
  9. OMG! I get all upset over road kill too! I always feel sorry for the poor whatever that gets killed....especially if it's a deer. And yes, I do like to eat venison but I don't kill them myself. I'm such a hypocrite.......
  10. I have yet to find a Colgate or Crest toothpaste with gluten. I think if you are only 3 months in and eating out a lot in restaurants, it would be more likely from that than your toothpaste. You may have been glutened by cc a number of times and started to feel the effects from accumulated exposure. You can always call Colgate to confirm but most companies...
  11. From what I have extensively read about Celiac Disease, you cannot trigger for it unless gluten has been introduced into your diet and you are eating it. Has your son been tested for Celiac? 11 months old is young to render a positive diagnosis. Most doctors won't even test for it at that age. How do you know he can't have all the other grains mentioned...
  12. I have no issue with gluten-free oats at all and am glad of that as I love them. My gut was totally trashed at diagnosis and I wasn't absorbing anything but I can eat oats now so there is hope for many others.
  13. Yup...correct again, nvsmom! People get overly worried about the heart attack/stroke problem with cholesterol but only 50% of all heart attack patients had high cholesterol. That was the last research I read. It has more to do with sugar intake and inflammation. High blood sugar levels also make blood sticky and fats stick to arteries when blood sugar...
  14. I think your outlook has something to do with anger. You are seeing things that aren't there because there may be resentment and anger at being diagnosed a Celiac. I find that the younger ones have a different attitude about things than the older ones, like me. Not all, but some. I don't know your age...just sayin'. For me, I am not emotional about food...
  15. The wax coating on fruits can easily be washed off with one of the commercial food wash sprays that use citrus acids to dissolve the wax. They sell them in the produce department. The wax is used to protect the fruit. You are suppose to wash produce before consuming so this won't be a problem if you do. It might be that a still healing gut may not be able...
  16. I would defintiely check all your supplements or anything that goes into your mouth as that can be a mistake almost everyone makes in the beginning. As far as shampoo and make-up, I do not screen certain items as I do not ingest them. Remember, you have to ingest things into your GI tract, which does start at the mouth, for it to initiate the autoimmune...
  17. Hello graciebear....I was in your shoes 8 years ago so am sorry you are this sick but know exactly what you are going through. A few things......unfortunately, no one bounces right back from a Celiac diagnosis so you will have to become a patient person. Healing can and will happen and you'll feel better than ever but it does take time and that is an individual...
  18. Please go and buy this book to read.......Open Original Shared Link It is important that you learn the diet correctly and learn about the disease itself. Only then will you realize that it's not the end of the world and there is plenty for you to eat. But this book earned high marks from many actual celiacs so it's worth it. Doctors know nothing about...
  19. Osteoporosis does not cause any pain. It's a silent disease. Even if someone that young, or anyone under the age of menopause, had it, once they go gluten-free and heal, it almost always reverses itself easily, due to youth and hormones. Older people can reverse it too but it takes work and dedicated exercise.
  20. I'm so sorry about your kitties. I have had to put down too many animals over the years and it's as hard as losing a human friend. All I can picture now is Mushroom in heaven, being followed by all these kitties that everyone has owned....probably going "Feed me, feed me"!
  21. I had bone pain for awhile and it was my femur (thigh) bone. That sucker hurt for 3 years after I went gluten-free. I was limping some days, it was so bad. Bone pain....not anything else. I also have osteoporosis but that is a silent disease. You usually never have pain with it or any discomfort....until you break a bone. I am weight training to reverse...
  22. Oh......that is so nice! I hope it will bring him some comfort.
  23. I hope Shroomie's family see these posts because it's bound to make them feel a little bit better, knowing how well she was thought of on here.
  24. I had to read this 3 times before it sank in. I still am having trouble comprehending that Mushroom is gone. You know, and this is true, the other day her name just popped into my head. Out of the blue and I thought....where has she been? I haven't seen any posts from Mushroom. I was going to ask Irish because I know how close they were. Now I know...
  25. I think I'm sold on Utah for retirement, Addy.....I HATE HUMIDITY! We don't get that much of it in Boston but 1 day is too many.
