  1. I always get these cramps. I also get them in my back, across my shoulders. One doc told me that for some people, the cramps just happen, and the reason is never found. When I get them in my feet and legs, I get rid of them by consciously tightening the muscles involved, and letting it just work out. Painful, but it gets rid of them, and the muscles feel...
  2. My doc was looking for ulcers, but instead found "patches of red, and inflammation." He took samples from the patches, he wanted to know what was causing them. What he found was what I had already told him: celiac.
  3. And please, please! Don't pack loose candies with potpourri or scented candles! It looks very pretty, yes, but renders the candies inedible! They soak up the perfumyness of the scented stuff, and tastes so awful!
  4. When I travel to relative's houses, I ALWAYS take my own food. The longer I am without gluten, the more severe my reactions are. 5 days on gluten is a very big deal, and a long time to suffer, not to mention the 6 weeks after of being sick and psychotic. Tell everyone about it, they just might see some of their own illnesses in it!
  5. Coffee-bleh! Love the smell, hate the taste!

    ARCHIVED #&$#@!% Waiting...

That is very much ridiculous. There is no excuse for a waiting period that long. Talk to your referring doc, see if you can see someone else. You could very well die while waiting that long!
  7. No-brainer, you are right about that one. Celiac does not weaken the immune system, it causes the system to overreact to everything. With your daughter getting sick so many times this year, chances are she was just exposed to germs she had not been previously exposed to. I noticed with my non-celiac kids, that one year they would catch everything going...
  8. I use 1 tbsp ground flax and 3 tbsp hot water for each egg. If I need fluff, I use baking powder and baking soda together with the flax. I can't get cakes to cook fluffy in the middle with this, but I make some awexome cupcakes with it! My pancakes, I don't use the flax, just the baking powder and soda.
  9. I guess this is why we have to work so hard at taking care of ourselves! I don't understand how they can justify allowing trace amounts, when even that little bit causes reactions in the gut.
  10. My grocery bill pretty much stayed the same, but only because my teenage son moved out! ! He came home last night with a buddy, and they cleaned out my fridge, lucky me they are not celiacs, they left my food alone! Yes, it is expensive, but so were all of the medical bills I had for being sick. I spend less on doctors and meds now, so it compensates...
  11. Every drug has side effects. What will they be for this one? How much worse than celiac will they be? Why should I pay a lot of money for a pill, when I can control the problem by watching what I eat? And, as Chelse said, how would it stop the reaction? Thanks, but no thanks. This pill is not for me.
  12. I will have to get more info about how plants and foods are related to each other!
  13. Maybe it is the type of file, like jpeg or wks. I use jpeg for all of my saved pics, and they transfer well to my avatar.
  14. So almonds are related to peaches? Shame I'm allergic to peaches, too! I wish my allergist were as good as yours, then I would have had more answers and help.
  15. So basically they do the same thing, I just won't have to scroll down and hit reply? That sounds much easier than the way I was doing it, and it also explains how some have been able to quote more than one person!
  16. I thought you would hit "quote" to add the message you want to reply to, then delete the part of it you are not responding to. I don't understand about the reply button beside the quote button, does it let you reply just to that specific poster?
  17. I put celiac on my medicalert tags. I have a whole slew of other allergies, though, so I just added it for "just in case." My mom was, and my sister is, a nurse, and they always told me that every bit of info is relevant in an emergency.
  18. Could it be caused by the malabsorption? Does a lack of vitamins and minerals cause excessive sleepiness? I know it causes fatigue, is sleepiness the same?
  19. Good question. Any one have any answers?
  20. If the guy lost his battle with celiac and died at 24, chances are he was not following the diet properly. Early death and illnesses from celiac can be completely avoided just by adhering to a totally gluten free diet. It is not something to be afraid of, just something to do for your own health!
  21. I love your mom's take on this! Try going completely back to basics for a while. By that I mean no processed foods, just meat, veggies, and fruit. That will give your body the nutrients it needs, and time to heal. For many celiacs, dairy is a problem, so you will need to diet-test that for yourself. You have already noticed that you feel bad after...
  22. As far as I am aware, there are 2 known genes for celiac. There is a good possibility that more exist, and have not yet been found. That said, I am glad that you have done so well on the diet!

    ARCHIVED Amazing

I'm glad this site is here. I would not have known about barley and rye without it, and I would still be sick. I just hope that visitors are able to find the answers to their questions here!
  24. I believe this is true for pharmaceutical companies, too. They haven't figured out how to make us pay them for what we eat!
