ARCHIVED Constant D And Desperate
Juliebove replied to ndw3363's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
When my D gets really bad I eat nothing but plain white rice. If I tolerate that, then I might add unsweetened applesauce. Then I might do a plain baked potato or instant ones made with water and Nucoa with plenty of salt and pepper. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Know It Was Gluten?
Juliebove replied to Ksee's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When you're not feeling well it can really be hard to find the reason. Last year at about this time, I thought my allergies were really out of whack. But this year? A little sneezing, itchy eyes one day. Couple of rashes. Nothing at all like last year were I was so miserable I resorted to buying natural allergy things but they didn't help. This year...- 12 replies

ARCHIVED Constant D And Desperate
Juliebove replied to ndw3363's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Good luck with that! Story of my life! Finally figured out that eggs and dairy do that to me. Eggs waaay more so. I am also intolerant to chicken and some herbs and spices. And now daughter has had this problem several times. They keep telling me that it is a virus. Really? Again and again? We have also noticed that it is tied to her monthly cycle... -
I vaguely remember seeing some disgusting show meant for kids that explained poop and farts and their smells. Said that some things produced smells that were worse than others. And I think those were any form of animal protein, cabbage, onions and some spices.

ARCHIVED Intolerance To Smells Of Different Foods?
Juliebove replied to seraphim's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Intolerances won't cause a histamine response but that doesn't mean that you won't get skin issues from them. Daughter was intolerant to both wheat and soy. Is no longer. Poor thing! I thought she had head lice and freaked. I saw little black specks all over her scalp. Turns out that it was dried blood from all the scratching she was doing. I had been... -
So I am bored and began looking up Spanish peanuts. No real reason why. I tend to look up whatever comes to mind sometimes. I found out that to grow them, you use fish fertilizer. Well... I am intolerant to fish! So my thought is... When we buy something, we do not know what kind of fertilizer is used! Except that if we buy organic, we know that chemicals...

ARCHIVED So Confused! Milk, Dairy, Casein?
Juliebove replied to Auntie-Manda's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have to avoid all forms of dairy. Seems I can be okay with it for a while but then it starts making me sick. If I lay off for a really long time, like 3 years, I can eat it again but it's not worth it. Before long it will sicken me again and I don't like being sick. -
ARCHIVED Cheap Breakfast Ideas?
Juliebove replied to Mark31's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can you have cheese? My daughter likes a piece of cheese or cottage cheese and fruit. She also often eats raw carrots for breakfast. She just loves them! Or apple slices and nut butter. She can't have peanut butter but can have sunseed butter. The Zucchini bread recipe in the recipe section of this website (not the forum) is great! I make it without... -
And she already said that she *did* contact them and they didn't get back to her. At some point, I did look on their website and it listed ingredients. I only remember the taco meat. That has gluten in it. And then it dawned on me! We used to eat at Old Country Buffet because it was close by. Daughter was the one with gluten issues and never got...

ARCHIVED Wheezing Reaction To Peanut Butter?
Juliebove replied to 175comet's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Oh no! Take care of yourself and get lots of rest. My friend had that. It was horrible! -
ARCHIVED Unsupportive Family Keeps Demanding I Attend Rehearsal Dinner.
Juliebove replied to rorenchan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it were me, I would go to the rehearsal dinner even if I didn't want to. I have only ever been to two such dinners. One as a child so really don't remember. And one as a vegetarian. Did not know of my food intolerances then. This was at an Italian place and we were limited to (I think) two food choices for dinner, neither of which were things I would... -
ARCHIVED Us Show-What Would Ryan Lochte Do?
Juliebove replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I tried to watch a few minutes. I just didn't get it but... I'm not a big TV watcher and most of what I see doesn't appeal to me. -
If I were you, I wouldn't work around gluten, period. My daughter does not have celiac but was gluten intolerant and she couldn't go into the bakery section of the grocery store. Something about being where the stuff was being baked and the baked surrounding her made her feel unwell. Chances are, you are inhaling that stuff if you are around it. My...

ARCHIVED Do You Think A Person Can "recover" From Gluten Intolerance?
Juliebove replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it is an intolerance and not celiac then strictly laying off of the gluten for a few years may allow you to eat it again. But the intolerance can just as easily come back so for some people it is advisable to continue to lay off. That would be me, with dairy! But other people find they can eat it sometimes. Probably not advisable to eat it every day... -
ARCHIVED Why Do Potato Chips Have A Bad Reputation?
Juliebove replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think it's the high salt and fat content that makes them bad. You can get some made with olive oil. I found them to be rather tough and thick and didn't like them so well. Of course you can buy baked chips but I don't think those are gluten-free. And if you like thick ones, you can make your own in the oven. Those were popular here in the 70's to early... -
ARCHIVED Shared Dip With Daughter, Did This Make Me Sick?
Juliebove replied to hopefull799's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yep! Next time make a rule that nobody dip gluten stuff in the dip. Ask for a little plate or bowl and share it that way. I can remember getting very angry with my mom many, many times because she would break off a piece of her Chalupa and dunk it in the bean dip. And then daughter would be like... "Thanks! Now I can't eat that!" But my mother would... -
ARCHIVED My Amusing Email Conversation With The Olive Garden
Juliebove replied to luvs2eat's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Yeah. For me the issue isn't even gluten. It's egg and dairy. Most gluten-free pasta is egg free but the dairy is everywhere. -
Could you get something at a health food store for pain? I don't use pain stuff myself but I think they should have something there and it might even be corn free.

ARCHIVED Anyone Else Have A Really Random Allergy?
Juliebove replied to pretty in paleo's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Not allergies but intolerances. Chammomile, thyme, tarragon, lovage, cloves, and mint. All things that I used all the time and all things I was clueless about. Turns out that the mint was causing me to need toothpaste for sensitive teeth. And of course that had mint in it, but whatever else they put was calming that down. Now I know why when I had an... -
ARCHIVED My Amusing Email Conversation With The Olive Garden
Juliebove replied to luvs2eat's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I don't think that is true any longer. When they first came out with the gluten-free menu, it was true. But I read here that they no longer do that and cook the food on premises. Not that it is any good. Because it isn't. I have no clue why people like that place. Even the salad is no good with its two token olives. I would expect a salad there to... -
ARCHIVED Im Needing A Bit Of Help Now
Juliebove replied to jhol's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I guess I am lucky because gluten doesn't seem to be a problem for me. It was for daughter and that's why I came here. When she first went gluten-free, I made our entire house gluten-free, including replacing the toaster. But that didn't sit so well with my husband because he loves pizza and sandwiches. I did make good gluten-free pizza but since daughter... -
ARCHIVED Help Please, Soy Allergy And Now Reacting To Foods I Eat Daily
Juliebove replied to julissa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't know if there is soy on apples or not but... Daughter used to have a soy intolerance. If she ate any soy besides occasional soybean oil, she would get really sick to her stomach. But she ate apples with no problem. You might try eating a very small amount of cooked apple. Like applesauce. See if you can find a single serve of it so that you... -
ARCHIVED Any Luck With Mom And Pop Restaurants?
Juliebove replied to Elfunk11's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Those are truly my favorite places to eat but there are less and less of them in this area. They keep putting in bleh food chain places! But at a little place, they usually cook from scratch. And they are usually willing to make you something even if it is not on the menu. We have multiple food intolerances. We especially do well at several Mexican places... -
ARCHIVED Im Needing A Bit Of Help Now
Juliebove replied to jhol's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am not even tempted to try eggs ever again in any form. They make me sooo ill and gave me such stomach pain for such a very long time, this is not something that I ever want again. Thankfully I never liked eggs very much to begin with. I have been tested three times and every test showed eggs as being very high. -
One of my favorites is a good party food. Buy cherry tomatoes. Wash them. Cut the tops off and reserve (if you want). Use a melon baller or a small spoon to scoop the guts of the tomato out. Discard. Turn the tomatoes upside down on paper towels for about a half an hour to drain the juice off. Meanwhile, cook some bacon until crisp. Crumble it...
