  1. This does bare thinking about. If only for the heavy CC issue. I am a week into a corn exclusion, mainly because I eat little of it and I had a real, real bad experience with corn starch loaded foods and preps for a recent endo and colonoscopy. It took me longer to recover from that than from the diverticulitis I had a week before the tests were done....
  2. I am recoving from a bout with diverticulitis and colitis. I was given a couple of antibiotics, one Flagyl we were unable to get in the strength the doc wanted unless we went generic so I have not started that one, and don't know if I will. Be aware that the Levaquin although gluten-free for certain, is a really nasty antibiotic. I had side effects...
  3. I spent years in retail management and then went to cooking and managing a restaurant that catered to folks with 'food allergies and intolerances'. I left that and went back to college at almost 40 because I was told it was the stress of the job that was making me sick. I had to pull out of my 2 year degree program 6 credit hours short of a dual degree...
  4. One of the best ways to check on the safety of these is to put the brand name of the vitamin into a search engine like google and the word gluten. Many times the companies info will be one of the first links that comes up. The ingredients you mentioned should be safe, maltodextrin is safe in the US it is not wheat dervied. You can apply the google trick...
  5. Tums are not reccommended for someone who is gluten-free. Some varieties are clearly not gluten-free and the others run a high risk of CC. Also antiacids are not a good way to get calcium, the antiacid properties of the drugs themselves prevent the calcium from being absorbed. Rolaids or Pepto Bismal are a better safe choice for tummy relief when needed...
  6. If you can find the Innova Evo cat food that is a dry raw diet, totally grain free food. My pets thrive on this brand.
  7. Your symptoms mirror mine from before the daily D set in. You have a wise doctor. I would continue with the diet for a couple of months strictly and have your doctor check your B12, iron and folate levels. It can take a bit of time for the joint and muscle pain to resolve. I had some relief within a month or so but it didn't really hit me how much until...
  8. This was quite interesting once I figured out how to make the print large enough to see. Thanks for posting this info.
  9. I'm glad you figured out the culprit. It can be hard at first since for many of us reactions to gluten are delayed. It is like when I was a cook and folks would say they got food poisoning and call 10 minutes after they left. It is sometimes hard to make folks understand that the last thing you ate is most likely not what got you, it was something from...
  10. A quick warning about henna, if you have used any haircoloring either permenant or wash out do not use henna until after it has all grown out. You could end up with some real interesting colors otherwise. If you have never colored you hair before from what I understand henna is great though.
  11. I did acupuncture prediagnosis for some help with pain control. It did absolutly nothing for the DH or the D and pain that comes with celiac. The herbal preperations I had been given make me even sicker but the acupucture itself helped with the pain in my joints an muscles. One thing I found real interesting and so did the doctor was that when I would...
  12. Loreal makes some that are safe. There are other companies also. It is especially important if you use a level 2 color that washes out gradually to make sure it is safe. Most companies will tell you if you call.
  13. I agree with cutting out the dairy also for at least a couple of months. Also try to minimize your chances of CC, be very careful at home and if possible avoid restaurants and processed foods for a bit. Make sure you have checked every med you take, script or OTC. If you are taking generic drugs don't assume because the name brand is safe the generic will...
  14. This is exactly what I did to get my BS under control. I am Type II and refused the meds and strictly restrict the amount of carbs I do. Most of mine come from veggies and beans. I have been accused of using rice as a spice when my son eats with me. By my 6 month A1C check my reading was down to 6.1 and I am shooting for below 6 with the A1C that I...
  15. To me the most telling part of your post is this sentence. If you showed an improvment after being on the diet for a bit that is your best way to tell if you need to be gluten free. Hopefully the Enterolab tests will be able to clarify things for you. Let us know how those turn out.
  16. Annoying isn't it? I hated that feeling. Especially when I couldn't hang on to things anymore. Are you taking a sublingual B12? gluten-free of course. B12 is needed for the neural pathways to function properly. Add this in to your vitamin regime today and see if it helps. Another thing you should check for if you haven't already is diabetes, in...
  17. You have gotten some great advice already. I was someone who failed to show up on blood work, this delayed my diagnosis by over 10 years. This resulted in some pretty nasty permenent problems that even after 5 years have not resolved and because they are brain related perhaps never will. If I had the excellent advice you have been given my world might...
  18. This depends on the person. For some of us the entire kernal will be present, insides and all. On the original question, corn has a very high risk of CC, not just in the manufacturing process but also in the bins the dried corn is stored in and in the milling. I have been CC so many times by corn in chips and baked goods that I now won't touch it....
  19. I actually trained myself to do this. On gluten or under great stress I am a teeth grinder. I have broken them in my sleep, those good old celiac teeth, and I do it to keep from grinding. Perhaps a mouth guard might help you and your son, your dentist can give you one with the best fit. Another thing that helps, at least for me, is a hot compress on my...
  20. I am diabetic and the numbers you are quoting are the numbers I shoot for. If you have think you are having a problem then you should see a doctor for confirmation but your readings are not out of line. The feeling ill after every meal has me wondering though, are you living in a home where you are being exposed to CC? Are you still on any meds, and...
  21. Yes, even if the biopsy is negative, heck even if the blood test is negative a dietary trial gluten-free should be done. Not doing so can result in years of misdiagnosis and suffering and also permenent damage to the brain and other organs. As my GI said recently the tests we have for celiac are not extrememly accurate.
  22. This could be from the glutening but you should really check this out if it continues or gets worse.. Until you can get in to see your doctor have you tried some Pepto? I get pretty bad tummy pain with glutenings and it does seem to help.
  23. When you first try and add dairy back in the best things to add are hard cheese like cheddar and yogurt. These are kind of 'predigested' and will be easier for your body to handle. DO NOT start right off with a glass of milk or ice cream, your body has not been making the enzemye you need to digest dairy for a while now. You want to gently reintroduce...
  24. I have been looking for a corn syrup free sub for soda and I found these. They are a bit strange at first, the Grape to me tastes like prune juice but mixed with something else their pretty good. I have started to up my antioxident consumption and I mix with blueberry or pomanganete concentrate. Beware though, the veggies variteties look safe when you...
  25. I would sell that one in a yard sale and put the cash toward another. I bought one after diagnosis and found I only used it a few times. It is of course up to you but I put in a vote for wouldn't use it.
