ARCHIVED Immune System On Overdrive
ravenwoodglass replied to PeaceAngel22's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
All I can speak from is my own experience. When I was diagnosed it was originally by a very savvy allergist, after 15 years of misdiagnosis of my daily pain and D. Before he put me on the elimination diet he tested for true allergies. He did tests, the injection under the skin one, 90 of them. I reacted to everything except beech trees. It was at this... -
ARCHIVED Can Dh Be Situational?
ravenwoodglass replied to waywardsister's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hi, Sorry I haven't been to this section in a while and maybe others haven't either. Have you made sure all your lotions, shampoos etc are gluten-free? You need to do so especially with the scalp itchiness. For some it leads to hair loss so it can be important. Many of us also see a change in presentation and severity at times. I tend to get more ezema... -
ARCHIVED Brainiac Celiac?
ravenwoodglass replied to angst2amity's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Just look at all the Aspies. We may be socially inept but we research stuff to death I know all my family are high IQ testers. It will be nice to see how far my children go without the gluten cloud. They are doing great so far. -
ARCHIVED Marshall Protocol?
ravenwoodglass replied to HawkFire's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
"There are other types of bugs causing these auto immune diseases. A leaky gut, Celiac maybe, helps it along and you end up with lupus, ra, chrons, fibro, cfs... it is right there in front of us.............''. I will keep you posted about my antibiotic protocol. I believe it is going to work." And I hope it does work for you and not give you additonal... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Results
ravenwoodglass replied to Curious and Determined's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes most definately. If your doctor took enough biopsies I would be very surprised if you do not get an official diagnosis at your after procedure consultation. -
ARCHIVED I Ate Gluten Today
ravenwoodglass replied to elaine33's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you are going to add it in so that you can have a more accurate test small amounts will not neccessarily do it. It also takes up to 3 months from what I understand for the gluten to effect blood tests, that is if you show up on blood tests at all. If you are dreading going back on gluten IMHO you already have your answer. You need to give yourself... -
First have a (((((((hug))))), yes this will harm you. And not just in the short term. Unfortunately the gluten free diet is not one you can 'cheat just a little bit' on unless you want to not only delay your healing but also increase your risk of developing some really nasty autoimmune stuff. Is there some way you can make this social event at your house...

ARCHIVED Immodium
ravenwoodglass replied to clhsc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Go simple at first. Get meats, veggies, fruits, nuts or other stuff that you like that is processed as little as possible. If you tolerate dairy be sure to add at least one serving of a gluten free yogurt a day to help balance your intestinal flora. Try to stay away from processed stuff as much as you can. Use spices and herbs by a company like McCormack... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Tested Negative!
ravenwoodglass replied to Electra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Your doctor can diagnose Porphyria if there is any chance you have that going on, ask him to test you. You mentioned you have tried the gluten free diet "a day here and a day there", that is not going to tell you anything. The autoimmune response that goes into play with celiac and gluten intolerance is a delayed and systemic reaction. And it takes a while... -
ARCHIVED Immodium
ravenwoodglass replied to clhsc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can you just stay gluten free for a while to see if that helps before starting the immodium? I was on daily multiple doses of immodium and also an antispasmotic for over 15 years. What that led to in me was 2 fold, one I would wake up in the middle of the night for very painful D for 3 hours straight after the meds wore off and 2 I ended up incontient,... -
I had this problem all my life. Long Johns would go on in October and stay on until May. I was never comfortable if the thermostat was less than 72 and I would still need a sweater or blanket to feel really warm. I used to sleep in pajamas and a robe and use a fan all year because hot flashes would wake me up then I would freeze soon after. I always thought...

Hi Brian, You may want to just try getting your meat at a larger chain grocerey. I had been glutened by meat at a small local store not because there was anything added to the meat but because the butchers routinely ate their lunch over the butcher blocks. I also agree that going with organic, no additive beef might also be an answer. Also check for...

ARCHIVED Attack Sent Me To The Er By Ambulance Today!
ravenwoodglass replied to Electra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes. Personally passing a kidney stone is less painful than the pain I had from celiac. They thought I was having a heart attack once. -

ARCHIVED Convincing Someone To Get Tested
ravenwoodglass replied to angst2amity's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi I just wanted to add one more thing about this: "actual wheat allergy - so he takes Claritin(?)" I am hoping that he is avoiding wheat even if not gluten. If he has an actual histamine response reaction from wheat (or any other substance) continued exposure could have a sudden change to a life threating response. This can happen very suddenly... -
ARCHIVED Benylin Cough Syrup And Halls Cough Drops
ravenwoodglass replied to Marlene's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Try doing a google search using the name of the drug and the words 'and gluten' I got a number of hits but did not have time to go into them. It appeared it is but I would do the search and look for the detailed info to be sure. -
Celiacs can have a higher rate of adenocarcinomas and other cancers of the GI tract, but I believe this happens mostly with those of us who are undiagnosed for an extended period of time. Are you sure they said a colonoscopy and not a endoscopy? I could understand GI doctors wanting to do a endo every couple of years, to check if the villi are still healed...

ARCHIVED Convincing Someone To Get Tested
ravenwoodglass replied to angst2amity's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How to convince him....how about you pull another chair up to the computer and have him look at the posts and signatures that are here. I got my DH to be tested when I accompanied him to his colonoscopy and bullied the GI doctor into doing the test. He was showing far less symptms than your husband. Imagine their surprise when he came back positive. Point... -
ARCHIVED Long Term Pre-diagnosis Symptons
ravenwoodglass replied to Riayn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
For a long time my GI problems seem to also come around my periods with an additional problem with depression at the same time. Then gradually the GI problems became a daily occurance and for the last 5 years of my illness it was a nightly bout with 2 to 3 hours of gut wrenching pain. I only wish they had tested me or I had tried the diet when my celiac... -
I also started going gray in my teens. And while it is far from totally gone I am so thrilled that it is now more brown than white. It also seems that it is more of the white than the brown that falls when I get glutened but that is most likely because they are older hairs. Most of my loss was in the front and temples so the brown hair is most noticeable...

ARCHIVED Little Hard Blisters
ravenwoodglass replied to Rebecca47's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually this might work if you were very patient. Warts are caused by a virus and eventually the virus will leave your system. Thus if you bury the potato and wait long enough they will go away. If this wart is on the ball of your foot it could be plantars wart. Plantar warts grow in not out which is what makes them so painful. They do not appear on... -
ARCHIVED Glutened By Hair Color?
ravenwoodglass replied to morningstargirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree a lot has to do with internal chemistry. I also think that whether or not you have any open sores, even a small pimple in the area you are coloring can allow some of the stuff your body dislikes to enter your bloodstream. Also while the gluten protein may not cross intact skin it can be absorbed by the mucous membranes. If you get the stuff in... -
ARCHIVED Please Tell Me This Will Be Ok?
ravenwoodglass replied to Electra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not much time so I have to be breif so please forgive. I had neurological symptoms of celiac since childhood and by the time I was diagnosed over 40 years later I had no reflexes in my legs, I could barely walk because of ataxia, I was totally incontinent, and my brain fog was so bad at time I couldn't remember the names of simple things like a fork or who... -
Mine was severe as a child, it was thought that I had poison ivy 'in my bloodstream' because I had it 12 months of the year. I was covered in itchy, oozing little blisters. This lasted for about 10 years. Steroids would give me relief for a month or so and then it would come back. It then seemed to go away in my teens but I developed bad acne instead...

I have also seen the research that smoking can delay the onset of GI symptoms. I find that interesting, I wonder if it is the tobacco or the chemical cocktails that conventional cigs contain. I have been glutened by cigarrettes. This shows up in me as blistering of my lips and low level 'I have been got' symptoms. In doing some research I found that many...
