  1. I don't think I am paranoid about gluten anymore, just cautious. I feed my cat friend gluteny food, but just wash my hands after feeding her. I am thinking of switching her to gluten-free food soon though, just because I think it might be better for her health wise. If she will eat gluten-free is another matter though! Meow! Don't forget to throw out...
  2. Hmmm, is coughing one of your usual symptoms with a glutening? If it not, then it sounds like a bug in the tummy. I don't think gluten can hide out inside us, although people with diverticulitis might think differently. You might want to write down everything you ate the day before and keep that list. It might lead you to another food intolerance...
  3. Hi, Stylo, If you want to be tested you should not stop eating gluten yet. The antibodies will disappear from your blood stream pretty quickly and then the test won't show anything. Of course the may not show anything anyway, but at least you are giving them the best chance by staying on gluten until all testing is completed. Sometimes an endoscopy...
  4. For breakfast a couple boiled eggs, and some peanut butter. For lunch I had rice with veggies and beef in an Enjoy Life rice wrap with home made guacamole with boiled eggs in it. Sometimes I put salmon or other fish in the guacamole but wanted to try boiled eggs for a change. Put the rice mixture on the wrap and microwave for a minute, then add a glop...
  5. Duh, um, realerly? Geez, at least the doctors won't detect it very often since they only think we have IBS ( I Be Stumped ).
  6. Thanks Ravenwood, I think I will look for the Wylde pretzels. They would go good with some guacamole on a Friday night. Sounds good!
  7. Thanks for posting. I gave up Glutino pretzels because they have soy. Looks like the Snyders will never make it to the starting gate.
  8. You are very welcome Puffee. Lactose iintolerance is common with us because the lactase enzyme that digests milk sugar( lactose) is produced by the villi. The villi lining the small instestine get damaged by the antibodies to gluten, and then no more lactase enzyme. The nice thing is, some times after people have been gluten free a while and healed up...
  9. Hi Puffee, It seems like you really just got started on the gluten-free diet. It's not a light switch where you can just throw it and you get better instantly. It takes time. Your gut has a microsystem of bacteria that changes based on what you eat. Some bacteria do better with the gluten and others do better without it. So you can go through a re...
  10. You know SSG, when I recently started feeling better, I almost didn't beleive it. I had felt better for a day or two in the past, and then got bad again and on and on. So when I started feeling better now, I didn't even want to get happy about it or excited since it had always been such a short lived thing before. I kept waiting for day 2, when I Would...
  11. Good to hear it is getting better Tom! Things can be sort of back and forth with this diet, and sometimes at the beginning it seems like progress is slow. If you continue to have pain you should talk to a doctor about it. It also might help to read up on elimination diets, if it goes on for a long time. And keep reading here, there is lots to learn on...
  12. Do you thinks it's gas Tom? You can try some peppermint tea if it is. Or Peppermint Altoid mints. I've had plenty of pain all over my abdomen. Lots of times I think it is gas and pressure on irritated intestines. Enough gas trapped in the sotmach can cause pain too. The peppermint can help in getting gas out. You are at the begining stages of adjusting...
  13. I've missed doing lots of things I would otherwise have been doing over the years too. Mostly due to not felling well, being tired, out of it, grouchy and on and on with the like. Actually my first 2 years gluten-free I felt much better but still had plenty of problems. It wasn't until this year I started feeling really well and have some energy, after...
  14. I used to have bad allergies, hay fever, since I was about 18. Spring and fall were the worst. I took shots for it which helped some. But I was always sure to have an anti-histamine with me and took them regularly so I could see and function. After I Went gluten-free my allergies reduced a great deal. I rarely take anti-histamines now, and seldom have...
  15. I don't buy bread very often, but I did think Glutino fiber bread was good. It is brown and has multiple grains and bit chewy. What I use far more often is Mission corn tortillas or Enjoy life rice wraps. They are both better if you heat them up a little on the stove or microwave. They bend easier when hot. The GLutino bread and Enjoy Life wraps are...
  16. The endoscopy is often the next step, but it can have false negatives also. Enterolab is probably a lot less expensive and can test you for some other food issues also. In Canada they have a test called Bio-card that is a home blood test. It seems like all the tests are reliable when indicating a positive, but not so reliable when indicating a negative...
  17. Hi Tom, Yes, it's very common according to the many threads posted here about it. Stick with the diet and keep a close eye on everything you eat and drink and all meds and vitamins, spices. You are changing the your gut bacteria are eating, and that can cause some disruption by itself. You are very new to the diet also, and it is not often a person...
  18. How about the celiac center at U of MD? Their office is in the pediatrics center, or was a couple years ago. That's where Dr. Fasano is. Warning, it took me 3 months to get an appointment when I went 2 years ago. Open Original Shared Link
  19. Hi Eternal Essence, It sure sounds like either celiac or gluten intolerance. Your doc is right in a way. Many people here report feeling better soon after starting the diet. But there are also people who don't feel better right away. There is a wide range of healing times and also a wide range of symptoms. If it hurts don't do it is good advice. ...
  20. Hi Celiacmom2, There is a thing called the Marsh scale, which rates damage to the intestinal villi lining the instestine according to the amount of blunting. It could be your vili damage was on the low end of the Marsh scale, and that the doc thinks that means it's a small problem. But that is not what the Marsh scale means. The Marsh scale just rates...
  21. Well, it sounds like you are saying you feel better and have fewer digestion issues, but still don't feel 100% healthy? I have been on the diet over 2 years now, and I am just now feeling like I am pretty healthy as of a month ago. The thing that really helped me was getting rid of the soy in my diet. I had cut out most of it a year back but not all...
  22. Hi Brien, If it is a wheat allergy then going off wheat should help. If it is gluten intolerance or celiac than you need to eliminate rye, barley and oats also (in addition to wheat). There are articles about safe and unsafe ingredients on the main page of this site. They are geared towards eliminating gluten, so will list things that might be safe...
  23. Hi Jess (Backtalk), Thanks for posting your story. That's one heck of a hard lesson to learn. Hopefully others who are struggling with commitment to the gluten-free diet will get motivation from your story. There have been a number of posters who find it hard to stick to the diet for various reasons. But in the end run the reason doesn't matter, when...
  24. Hi, Have you tried to find other food intolerances that may have developed since going gluten-free? If gluten-free isn't enough, it is probably a good idea to try an elimination diet. That's basically what you would be doing with the formula. But what then? You don't want to stay on the formula forever right? So at some point you have to go back to...
  25. Check out post #37 by Backtalk on this thread. Seems like pretty good motivation to me. falling off the gluten free wagon
