Is Malibu Rum Gluten-Free?
sc'Que? commented on Scott Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
Yes. But it's gross, and it does not even meet the EU standard to be considered Rum. If you're going to buy products like this, find a cheaper brand that you know you like and contact them. These big-box brands are constantly milking the public for their money because they ride the coattails of brand recognition--which let's them lower the standards...- 9 comments

A Gluten-Free Diet May Not Stop Gut Inflammation for all Celiac Disease Patients
sc'Que? commented on Scott Adams's article in Latest Research
I've been gluten-free since 2009 after being gluten-sick since 2007. Around 2014 to 2016, I developed what I thought was ringworm on my neck and scalp. After various OTC treatment regimens failed, I began to consider seeking a dermatologist in late 2019. Having not had a GP since high-school... well, I'm sure you know how that went. Didn't get to...- 52 comments

Haha. When I cut out alcohol for 6 months in 2019, I craved sugar like mad--specifically baked goods and candy, things I don't normalyl want. Once I was off the wagon, I no longer craved the sugar. But, thanks to CoViD, I'm up to a bottle of wine and two cocktails at least a few days/wk. And now that I'm working again, it'll get better. But what I...

Does anyone else get dreams of eating obvious gluten (bread, beer) after accidentally being gluten'd? My subconscious speaks to me, and I've been wondering whether I'm the only one. Happened again last night. Though I can't figure out what the gluten source is... other than possibly vegetable ash in cheese... or my body conflating the super-bloomy sheep...

I get you. But finding them in a country that is completely polarized on the subject--not unlike politics? They are both a problem.

In my opinion--which I know isn't worth much--you will not find (or will have a very slim chance of finding) a doctor in the U.S. who can actually help you. Why do I say that? Because Celiac disease crosses over into multiple specificities that Western doctors are not permitted to speak about unless they are such a specialist. Until Western medicine...

Hari's Suicide Potatoes Video Recipe (Gluten-Free)
sc'Que? commented on Hari Chengalath's article in Indian & Middle Eastern
Having just figured out that I have a nightshade intolerance/allergy (on top of Celiac)... this recipe really is Suicide Potatoes! =/ -
YES! In filmmaking this is called an "experimental narrative film". The point is to convey emotion and experience over strict storyline (narrative drama) and information (documentary or narrative documentary). Think of it as an 8-minute version of going to see Godzilla, but with less smashing.

That was actually an intentional part of the sound-design--and artistic choice, mostly. The film is designed to make you feel isolated... that you're not fully "present". Sorry if my reply sounds pompous; I don't mean to! But these were the techniques we studied in film school. And when done correctly, they can be very effective. When they're not...

Big Wheat Wants You to Think a Gluten-Free Diet is Dangerous—Don't Buy It
sc'Que? commented on Scott Adams's article in Winter 2021 Issue
Standard "table salt" has been completely replaced in many households by boutique salts. I still have my tub of Mortons for cooking big-batch stuff. But I almost exclusively use Himalayan Pink or Maldon for everyday cooking. Why? I try to use the least amount of salt when I'm cooking as possible. So if I'm going to use it, I want it to taste good. And table...- 26 comments

Big Wheat Wants You to Think a Gluten-Free Diet is Dangerous—Don't Buy It
sc'Que? commented on Scott Adams's article in Winter 2021 Issue
Just in the past 10 or so years, there are thousands more micro-distilleries and micro-breweries all over the North America. Why don't these farmers start growing more heirloom grains--both gluten-free and non--for culinary purposes, while rounding out their portfolios with the grains that brewers and distillers are currently needing more of: barley, rye...- 26 comments

Gluten-Free Chicken Enchilada-Stuffed Spaghetti Squash

Not sure why half of a spaghetti squash would have fewer overall calories than a thin, corn tortilla... but okay. -

In light of our ongoing discussion about "natural flavoring" and barleymalt, etc appearing in foods that do not specifically enumerate them on the label... https://www.seriouseats.com/2020/12/diacetyl-when-buttery-goodness-breaks-bad.html I've despised microwave popcorn since living with my cousins' family while in college in the early '90s.
