  1. No you don't as she clearly had no problem hurting your feelings by saying yes to your well thought out plans and then changing them. Does she not understand that this is a health issue and not some fad diet? You have offered to bring your own food so do just that for your own piece of mind. Don't hide your food or be ashamed. Own it. The more confidence...
  2. <<Hugs>> I can totally understand your frustration. My understanding is that diverticulitis is very painful. As are ulcers. Did they talk about treatment options? Diet? I would think the culprit is that right there. Why did they move on from that to OB? Seems odd that they dismissed both of those when the tests came back positive.
  3. I had one recently and it was called a RAST test. I asked if it was the same or similar to the ELISA and the doc said yes. Doc took 5 vials of blood and is testing about 80 foods. Haven't gotten the results yet. I've been on a low fructose diet in addition to being gluten, dairy and soy free. I hope the results don't come back with too many positives because...
  4. I keep seeing similar posts like this one where friends or family members don't believe in celiac, gluten intolerance and or wheat allergies. They can't accept that this could be the cause of so many symptoms - gi, skin, neuro, etc. despite the overwhelming evidence right in front of them. Even if they're not ones who would sit down and read an article or...
  5. Looks very healthy to me. My only suggestion would be to add some grains, gluten-free of course, like quinoa and buckwheat. I make salads like taboule out of them and I also make a breakfast cereal with the quinoa adding blueberries, sugar and cinnamon. Prepped like this it reminds me of oatmeal. I'm also lactose intolerant and I use hemp milk. There's...
  6. There's quinoa and buckwheat.
  7. Next month I'll be gluten free for a year. I haven't lost any weight. My weight has gone down at times (5-8 lbs) but it always springs back up again. It's incredibly frustrating. Doc feels I have fructose malabsorption and/or bacterial overgrowth. I've been on a low fructose/fructan diet for 2 weeks and although I keep messing up (this is even harder than...
  8. Sounds like you could benefit from some counseling and guidance from a nutritionist/dietitian. Do you have access to either? Hang in there, it does get better.
  9. I have always been itchy and have had hives (which might have been DH looking back) and psoriasis on my scalp. I've struggled with this my whole life. I tried all kinds of shampoos and finally found one that I love that is gluten, soy and sodium laurel sulfate (SLS) free, called Dessert Organics. Open Original Shared Link For body wash I like Johnson...
  10. I've always had issues regulating my body temperature. I get hot really quickly and once I heat up it takes forever for me to cool back down again. That leads me to feeling anxious and claustrophobic. I sweat like crazy all year round. I'm often hot when everyone else around me says it's comfortable or even cool. I'm super sensitive to humidity. I take tepid...
  11. I've been dairy free for 4+ years and some of my family remember and some don't. Add gluten and soy on top of that and forget about it. I have the same conversations over and over. Maybe I should make a recording Some think eggs are dairy. Some think whole wheat is ok. Some confuse gluten and glucose. I get offered things I can't eat all the time and I...
  12. I would also suspect the mayo. If it's the jar kind (as opposed to squeeze bottle) and used to make other non-gluten items (sandwiches, regular macaroni salad, etc.) it could be contaminated with crumbs.
  13. The gluten particles are too big to affect you through your skin, however, if the item gets on your lips or in your mouth (ie, bite your nails) you could be affected. I wanted to second the Avon and CoverGirl recommendations. Avon puts out a giant list that shows which items are Gluten-free. It's huge. They are inexpensive and offer free shipping. I do...
  14. I have RA, sjogrens and osteopenia. I'll talk a bit about the sjogrens. It affects my eyes the most. My corneas were so dry and damaged I've had punctal plugs (tear duct plugs) and cauterization procedures over the past 5 years. I've tried all kinds of drops and meds. I tend to wake up with a dry mouth but generally I'm not bothered by this during the day...
  15. If you have seasonal allergies you may have what is called cross reaction food allergies. There's also something called oral allergy syndrome. (links below) I'm allergic to birch and ragweed and have an intolerance to soy. My body misinterprets the soy to be birch pollen. I've also had some reactions to strawberries and other fruits. ARCHIVED Walgreens Fail

What a joke! Pharmacists need to be able to call and gather adequate information. Also, no one had a cell phone? Regardless, all the meds come with paper inserts that the pharmacist can look at to see the active and inactive ingredients. When I had a question that's what my (CVS) pharmacist did. She pulled out the papers and unfolded them and we went over...
  17. I didn't like them either until I figured out how to make them soft and chewy. I'll wrap a bun in a paper towel and microwave it for 1.5 - 2 minutes at 50% power. They come out awesome. I use the hotdog buns to make hoagies. They stay soft too even after cooling down. Regular gluten bread would turn into a rock after microwaving but it seems to work really...
  18. I completely agree and almost didn't even seek a doctor. I did the gluten-free diet and Enterolab testing on my own. However, I'm now glad to have a doctor I can turn too. I'm not getting fully better on the gluten-free diet so I know something else is going on. I know I'm not getting CC'd because my ttg numbers are great. All signs are now pointing to fructose...
  19. I'm lactose intolerant, borderline casein intolerant, soy intolerant in addition to being gluten-free. My doc believes I have fructose malabsorption (a.k.a., fructmal). I think she is right. I started a low fructose diet on Monday after seeing the nutritionist who works in the same practice. I am scheduled for a hydrogen breath test and bacterial overgrowth...
  20. Wow, total bait and switch! I'm so sorry you had to endure that. Go to the top. Write to the head honchos. Do it soon while it's all fresh in your mind and make sure to cite specific details. If you have anything in writing from your correspondence before the trip include it. Show them they assured you that you would be safe. CC' a newspaper or two...
  21. Can you remind me, what's the normal range for ttg?
  22. He needs to go back to med school! At a minimum you should be tested for iron, vitamin D, and B12. Those are standard tests, nothing exotic or unusual about them. Good luck with the hematologist
  23. Mini food for traveling - love it!! I would add mixed nuts, small peanut butter, chips, gluten-free pretzels, easy fruit like bananas, apples, oranges. Do you have a lunch bag, something insulated or even a purse that can be squished into a fridge? If so I'd say use it and put that into the hotels fridge. This way you can keep your things cold but people...
  24. I have eaten my fair share of potato chips and then some! I'm glad to have a crunchy and salty comfort food that can be found anywhere. If you can't find Utz try Lays Wavy. They're what I would call a classic ruffle potato chip. To offset the chips just have a bit more broccoli
  25. Count me in too. My diagnosis has gone like this: celiac, not celiac, celiac, not celiac. Frustrating? For sure. I'm in the camp that believes celiac and non-celiac gluten intolerance are the same thing, just varying degrees. What I know: when I eat gluten I get violently ill. When I don't eat it I feel better. My body is healing and my viatmin...
