ARCHIVED Was My Doc Right?
kareng replied to celiacmom2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That's great! Mildly pregnant! Seriously, I can't tell you how many people have told me they know someone with Celiacs but its no big deal. They take croutons off salads, don't worry about crumbs, etc. I figure they either don't have Celiac or they have one of these MDs that don't educate well or know much about it. -

I'm new to this too. So far I've made Gluten free Pantry chocolate cake & Betty Crocker gluten-free brownies (at most groceries). I added extra choc chips to the brownies. They were good. To make them special, add vanilla or coffee ice cream & maybe some fudge sauce (check ingredients). I didn't notice if it says what city you live in but some... -
ARCHIVED Tips On Making Kitchen Gluten Free
kareng replied to MRM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Heres what I did: I had fun & got new pans just for me or food that we can eat together. Kept old pans for glutinous things. Got new spoons, measuring cups, cutting board in red & my kids do notice & ask before using my stuff. Got red duct tape for Margarine, jelly, handle of something I couldn't find in red. Got a new red toaster at Penneys... -

I think that picture of the big scary president & the mutant baby scared people off. -

A local dairy told me most all of their yogurts are gluten-free but to watch for Pie Flavors. Some of them have little bits of a graham cracker type stuff to make it taste more like pie. Maybe that could have happened with your flavors? Still should be listed. -
I have talked to the local chapter & no one really has a Primary Care type Dr that knows much. I can understand the medical info but I do feel bad for people that can't research stuff themselves. I know if it were my parents, they would not question what a doctor said or ask for any specific tests. Its frustrating & tiring to have to go it alone...

Does anyone know of someplace I can get some basic info for my PCP? He doesn't know much about Celiacs but seems to go along with the things I suggest. He wanted me to go back to the GI that did my endo (surprisingly correctly). The GI knows alot about Celiacs, unfortunately, it doesn't apppear to be up-to-date or accurate. He says its just an alllegy...

Well, Richard, I haven't seen any bulls rampant or otherwise lately. But I'll be prepared for the urge to go after them. Interesting article. I love genetics - were my favorites classes 100 years ago when I was in college. Hi Patti. I'm sure the weather is beautiful there in TX. It is 46 & sunny so maybe the sno will melt. -

I don't know if your school has the combined sewing/cooking class that our middle school has. I have seen how they cook & clean after & wouldn't recommend he even go into that room or touch the door knobs, etc. Lots of candy is gluten-free. I've seen lists if you search gluten-free candy. -

Sounds like a nice day. Definitely want to see what old Stan is doing when the kids aren't looking. Tahoe was beautiful. The first few days we had a condo on the beach. Good thing the view outside was good. So that's whats happening to me. -

What happened to the fish? Did they get turned into Kabobs? Maybe this dog will come with us when we become shepards. She looks like she has already got the drinking part down. I am not a math person but my oldest son is. Likes to calculate sizes of gears needed to spin something & turn somethin.....(snore) However, I did know... -
I've been on vacation or I would have responded sooner. I had a rabbit when we lived in a small townhouse. Great pet. They need time out of cage but need to be confined if you are not there. We pushed the furniture up against the wall so he couldn't get the wires behind them. I'm not sure what was in the pellets but mostly alfalfa or timothy hay. Timothy...

Crunchmaster crackers. I get the plain kind at Costco & love them. Thin & crunchy - taste a bit like a Sunchip but not as styrofoamy consistency. -

ARCHIVED Chronically Chapped And Cracked Lips........need Non-petrolatum Base
kareng replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hub & oldest son have this sort of problem with fingers from robot building & car remodeling. Dermatologist told him to get CeraVe. I checked & it is gluten free. Its thick & I put it on lips sometimes & tastes like crisco. Sometimes I do olive oil, let soak in a minute & then CeraVe or chapstick to sort of seal the oil in. Olive... -

I have been gluten-free about 5 weeks. The first few days I tried some of the gluten-free products like Udis bread, pasta & pizza crust. Hated them! It was too close to when I had the "real" versions. This past week tried them again & liked them. Wasn't as easy to compare them in my taste memory. Some are better then others & I have found... -
I love plain Fritos. But my whole life I found that if I eat too many, my stomach is upset. A few is fine. With food even better. I think there might be something about the way they are ground & the oil....

Did you notice the fried fish bones, baby clams & some of the other delicacies are sold-out? Poor David! I have always made that accidently on purpose when making Quesadillas. I spill some of the cheese & Oops. Yum. These are better then crunchy worm guts: Shred a nice Parmasan (spelling?) onto parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Make... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Take D3 In Large Doses?
kareng replied to kareng's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My iron comes with very specific instructions & my levels went up quickly. No food, drink, vitamin or medication except water 1 hour before you take it & 2 hours after you take it. It will bind with other things & not be absorbed & can mess up the other things. If it bothers your stomach, a small piece of banana or fruit seems to be OK... -

I like the bread with a little butter or margarine as grilled sandwich. My only beef it that the bread is so small that I have to make 2 sandwiches & feel a bit piggy. Oink! -
ARCHIVED On The Border Changed Gluten Free Menu

We have had bad experiences with regular OTB food (not gluten-free.) The one near us is poorly managed & the staff is not at all "with it." We have had receipts with cuss word "jokes" directed at the other staff member, silly childish behavior & completely wrong orders. I certainly would never trust them with special food needs if they can't handle... -
Jason! I have been on vacation skiing which was some fun & very depressing - no stamina, food & beer everyone else enjoying, & my Hub saying things like : "Remember, we used to sit on that deck of that restuarant with the lovely view & enjoy glutenous & unhealthy beverages & junk food. What fun that was!" Anyway, enough about...
