Can you feed your little one gluten free treats. Seems like that might be easier than risking gluten kisses., Just a thought....

Refractory Celiac Disease
cap6 replied to Pagosapig's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Eight months is not that long and depending on your age I wouldn't consider that long enough for a complete gut healing. Children heal quickly. The older you are and the sicker you were, the longer the healing process. Two years is not uncommon. Before you can consider refractory you need to consider everything - age, how sick where you, is your home...- 10 replies

ARCHIVED Should I Cheat On My Gf Diet?
cap6 replied to Kateteich's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Cheat = sick. And you set back the healing process. -
ARCHIVED Buying Beverages From A Restaurant
cap6 replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think you just have to use a lot of common sense. I don't know of any soft drinks that contain gluten, fruit and veggies drinks would be considered safe. If you have a question choose water, coffee or wine. The less ingredients that are in something the better you chances of being safe! -
I have been g.f 4+ years. My reaction now to an accidental glutening is far different from what it was one or two years ago. As the body heals the reactions can change.
-
When you are still healing different foods/drinks can cause gluten type reactions. If you eat something and still get sick it isn't that you were "glutened" it may just be your body saying that it can't handle the ingredients the food contains. You may tolerate rice today and two months from now no longer be able to. Our body changes and heals at such...

ARCHIVED First Out-Of-Town Trip Since Diagnosis. Big Girl Pants.
cap6 replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I bought one of those purse type thermal bags and stock it with stuff like cheese pieces, crackers, nuts, Think Thin bars, tuna, peanut butter squeeze packs. Quick protein get-me-through-another-meal type stuff. -
ARCHIVED Gratitude--What Good Things Has Celiac Brought To Your Life?
cap6 replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What a great topic! Grateful for so many things: I finally learned to cook - from scratch! Learned how to cook and eat healthy (and to borrow from, beth101) normal poop!!! don't have to eat cake and pie. Funny, but never have really liked it but would eat it at parties just cause it was expected and now I have an "excuse" not to! -
Vac, wash with soap and water. I line my drawers with paper towels just cause it makes it feel cleaner to me!

I will still say wheat is wheat is wheat. If you are celiac then you are playing with fire to eat it. Period. You may not get sick but the damage is being done anyway. Three days, three weeks, whatever, of carefree eating wheat simply does not seem worth the risk of what I may be doing internally. But we all are free to make our own choices. If I ever...

ARCHIVED Canned Tuna
cap6 replied to myserenityprayer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As someone else pointed out, if you have a Costco nearby try their Kirkland brand. Nothing in the tune except tuna, water and salt. Excellent. -
ARCHIVED Minimisation By Family/friends.
cap6 replied to Chrissie32's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Education as others have said. Sigh! I get the "Well, it won't kill you like a peanut allergy will". Well, probably not but do you want to hold my head while I puke and pass out for hours??? A co-worker told me it was just a diet thing and I would be fine. A good friend rolled her eyes like I was making things up. Takes time for other around us to... -
Wine is gluten free. Wine spritzer drinks may not be.

ARCHIVED gluten-free Kitchen, But Hubbby Drinks Regular Beer
cap6 replied to ravenra's topic in Super Sensitive People
Beer is about the only allowed gluten item in our home too. My partner will drink the Omission beer which is gluten free when we can find it. I've heard that it is good but I am not a beer drinker. No kissing till the teeth are brushed!!! -
Since we travel a lot I use the app on my phone Find Me Gluten Free which is really pretty good. I, too. usually order last and say something like "I'm going to be your problem child" and stress that I have food allergies. I ask how they prepare the food and if they come back with stating they have special preps then I know they have been trained and we...

ARCHIVED Is There Anything Safe To Eat At Ice Cream Or Frozen Yogurt Shops?
cap6 replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
We travel a lot and during the summer and my partner and sister are always stopping for an ice cream. Sort of a bummer to not have the scooped stuff. Once in a great while you may find a place that will get a fresh carton, open it for you and super carefully wash the scooper but that's pretty rare and I usually hate to ask. I'll have a soft serve iuf they... -
Been reading all of the comments and this is such a perplexing topic. What works for one person doesn't for another. Plus, just my thought, that what may work in 6 months of healing may not work at two years of healing. Bottom line is finding the right combo (cocktail) that work for you. I would be very careful at eating much in the way of processed...

Your can find the tea at Walmart in the coffee/tea grocery section. Walgreens Drug Store has it and I have also found it in health food stores.
-
I have posted on this before as it has been the story of my life and even at 4+ years post diagnosis is still a problem if not very careful. I have tried every suggestion given and finally came up with my own cocktail. Water, water and more water. Veggies at every meal. And I mean lots of them so that your plate is 3/4 veggie and 1/4 protien, walking...

ARCHIVED Dealing With Parties At Your House
cap6 replied to veryami1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't posted in quite sometime, but...with 4+ years of experience feel the need to respond. First, it's your home and you have the right to expect No gluten in your home if that's what makes you feel comfortable, and that's the way my home is. I am the only celiac in our home but it just makes it easier. When we have a party I serve only g.free... -
ARCHIVED Fatigue!
cap6 replied to gwynanne4life's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was 58 when diagnosed so can totally relate! I agree with some variety in your diet. Ensure is fine but there are so many other ingredients that just aren't good for you. I have an egg every morning and you need lots of fresh veggie and protien. Also... I have that devastating exhaustion also and it turns out that I have chronic anemia and must take... -
ARCHIVED Am I Doing The Right Thing?
cap6 replied to ColtonBarnes's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I second the "take it easy with milk" and any dairy products. It is quite common for a celiac to be lactose intolerant as well. Many times after several months that will go away and you can then enjoy your dairy stuff again. Took me about 8 months before I could handle yogurts, cheese or ice cream, but again... time is a healer! -
Rice Is Making Us Sick!
cap6 replied to Angelmomh2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Interestingly my partner, who is not celiac, can not handle brown or black rice or quinoa while I, the celiac, can handle it all. We do pretty much stay away from any rice (or other grain) as we eat mostly all paleo. -
ARCHIVED Am I Doing The Right Thing?
cap6 replied to ColtonBarnes's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Paleo is an excellent diet to follow. My fav book is Practical Paleo by Diane Sanfilippo. I started out a no cook (a serious no-cook!) and her easy to follow, simple to use recipes are great. Plus she has some simple easy to follow 30 meal plans. When you replace processed gluten foods with processed gluten free foods you will probably have trouble...
