ARCHIVED Dairy
cap6 replied to Mama Melissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
LOL That would definitely be a more pleasant way to prep for a colonoscopy than drinking that stuff! -
I often tuck some tuna or turkey burger on gluten-free bread in my purse. Then I order a plain salad with oil & vinegar dressing and have my sandwich on the side. It's a meal - not the best but it works in a crunch.

Spending one full day cooking is the best way to go. A freezer full of meals makes me feel less stressed on those don't want to cook days. A frozen meal does the trick!

ARCHIVED Who Survived Thanksgiving?
cap6 replied to sandsurfgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My 1st T'giving was awesome! We had dinner with friends who made sure the meal was gluten-free except for their stuffing (that was covered with paper towels and on a separate counter space) and she even wore gloves. I made & brought my own stuffing which everyone tried and declared good. They had pie and I had my own which everyone tried as well. Friend... -
ARCHIVED People Not Taking You Seriously
cap6 replied to LePandaRouge's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
my Dad is sort of like your aunt. "So, you can't eat that then Sis". "No Dad". "well let's look at this." I can't get upset cause he really cares but at 82 he just doesn't get it. When we visit I take my cooler, scrub a spot in his refrig, take my own pan and cutting board, a sense of humor and love and... pray! He means well and cares and he always... -
This was a great thread. I have to say that at first my dr gave me info from the internet and told me that once I was well I may be able to eat gluten again. I've stayed with her though (we're in sort of a small town anyway) as she not only read everything I gave her she studied the disease on her own. She spends as long as necessary with me and will do...

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination: Reason To Worry This Much?
cap6 replied to Kimbalou's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is the most confusing thing about Celiac. I'm not trying to be rude here, just trying to understand since I was recently told I was being over the top about CC. If you are super sensitive and eat a tiny crumb of bread that makes you sick it is destroying your insides. If I am not super sensitive but eat that same tiny crumb of bread it is still... -

I like a nice deep red Cabernet. So we'll have to open 2 bottles - 1 for you and 1 for me. That works! lol Happy Turkey Day to you too! -
ARCHIVED So Confused. Celiac Or Not
cap6 replied to realmaverick's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Brain Fog or celiac brain as we call it around here. It got worse after being diagnosed. Slowly gets better. I think that we want it all now. Want to feel good now.... it took us years to get to this point and will take awhile to get completely well again. Easier said than done I know. -
ARCHIVED So Hard To Cope With Thanksgiving
cap6 replied to terri's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
if I take my own stuff i have a cute little cooler that I use and leave it sitting next to my purse. I don't take my stuff out till the last minute. It's all so much easier said than done though... -
ARCHIVED Poll: How Were You Diagnosed? (Or Were You?)
cap6 replied to flutterby's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was considering doing the gluten challenge so that I could get the biopsy and have an absolute answer but my partner says no. It's just not worth the time it takes to eat the gluten, have enough in your system, be so sick and then the months it takes to get well again. Not worth it. An official diagnosis just isn't that important. -
ARCHIVED Feeling Like An Idiot
cap6 replied to polarbearscooby's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have been sick twice at Applebees and once was just with eating a salad. Never again. They don't get it. I have better luck with a potato at Wendy's! -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Dinner... Dont Cook For Me!
cap6 replied to Rowena's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
my good friend did the same thing ` bought new pots & pans just to use for me. She called me to go through each and everything when she made the meal and she got CC. Actually she was in a little panic that she might make me sick and called me twice the day after to be sure I was ok. I went ahead and ate and it was all good. But~ I know her well,... -
ARCHIVED Realization About My Celiac
cap6 replied to Lindsay630's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Our home is gluten-free. My partner & son have a box of cereal and some soup in a separate cupboard and a loaf of bread in the bottom drawer of the refrig. Nothing else. I got rid of everything else that has gluten but no one minds. I do the cooking and they are just grateful they don't have to do it. lol Once in awhile they might bring home a burger... -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Get Upper Back Spasms When Glutened?

ARCHIVED So Tired All The Time
cap6 replied to AJoy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After 6 months of iron supps my dr suggested liquid iron. She said that Celiacs often have trouble absorbing the nutrients and liquid iron is absorbed faster. It does work - just such a very very slow process. Slowly you notice that you aren;t sleeping quite as many hours a day! Just read the labels. I grabbed a bottle of liquid iron the other day only... -
ARCHIVED Poll: How Were You Diagnosed? (Or Were You?)
cap6 replied to flutterby's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I voted by dr although all my tests were negative. I was so darn sick that I really did stop eating - it just hurt so much - and lost 30 lbs in 2 months time. Was living on a bite of soup, rice or chicken (with a tad of cream of chicken soup over the top) through the day so of course all the numerous blood tests came back negative. All the symptoms were... -
we are frequent visitors in Kauai. We always rent the same little beach house that has a very small kitchen so that we can fix most of our own meals. We walk the beaches a lot so usually pack a lunch. If we eat out the good places are pretty good and you can always get some good grilled fish. Our niece lives there so that is a plus and she directs us towards...

K8ling ~ Now that would get your point across!!! -
Take it slow. And everyone is right. Your body will slowly heal and start to tell you what you need. You can only make so many changes at a time or it is completely overwhelming. I find (to my dismay??) that I now crave fruit and veggies rather than sweets & junk stuff (something wrong with that picture. lol) Given a choice I would rather munch...

My iron counts keep coming back low even after taking supps so my dr suggested a liquid as it is easier for the body to absorb. I have been taking Floradix FLORAVITAL and it seems to be working. I took it for a month, ran out & went back to the pills and I can feel the difference.... am sooo tired again so it's back to the liquid. Take with a meal...

ARCHIVED Generic Liquid Ranitidine
cap6 replied to Roda's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
hmmm how about switching pharmacies? My regular pharmcist here in town did the same thing to me - tried to tell me that there was no reason for companies to put gluten in medication etc ect. What a battle. While traveling this summer and in Oregon I found a pharmcist that spent a lot of time helping me figure out which medication would be safe. -
ARCHIVED Do You Know If You Had Colic When You Were A Baby?
cap6 replied to SaraKat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was a very colicky baby and known as "the constipation kid" all through my childhood. (what a great nickname... lol ) Canker sore, peeling finger nails and on... took to age 59 to diagnose. This is an interesting thought....... Also I wasn't breast fed. -
ARCHIVED How Much Do You Spend On Groceries?
cap6 replied to snifter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
