  1. You could be absorbing either thyroid medicine or iodine differently. Time to go to your doctor for thyroid bloodwork!
  2. The corn starch is OK but Dannon won't guarantee their natural flavors are gluten-free. As Ravenwoodglass said, Yoplait is marking their yogurts gluten-free and is a better brand to buy.
  3. Gluten-free helps but after I went gluten-free I found that I also have to take a vitamin, mineral, and micronutrient called EMPowerPlus from Open Original Shared Link and some fish oil. EMPowerPlus is specifically designed to treat bipolar and I am among the many people who can use the supplements instead of meds. I did not have a minor case of bipolar...
  4. What wonderful in-laws you have. My list would be: Rice cooker - it will save your sanity! Crockpot if you don't have one (helps with the cooking) Bread machine if you like to use them Fresh cutting boards Teflon pan for non-gluten foods gluten-free cookbooks You will find that cooking is a lot more affordable than trying to buy gluten-free convenience...
  5. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are general tests for inflammation. CRP appears in autoimmune diseases and inflammatory bowel disease. These tests help rule out non-celiac problems like Crohn's. CRP: Open Original Shared Link ESR: Open Original Shared Link Your TTG is clearly positive. To be honest, we've seen plenty...
  6. It's weakly positive. With the titers, they dilute your serum and test to see how far they can thin it down and still get a reaction. In your test, being able to dilute to 1/5th serum is normal, and you have enough extra antibody that they could go to 1/20th serum and still see signal. A strong positive would be more like a dilution to 1 part in 100. ...
  7. Heck yes! You are not imagining anything.
  8. Based on the labs, you are starting into autoimmune thyroid disease, and you'll probably be diagnosed with Hashimoto's. You do need to be followed by an endocrinologist, and regular TSH testing. With a first-degree relative who has celiac you have a 1 in 20 chance of developing it yourself irrespective of having DQ8. You don't have the celiac antibodies...
  9. I'm not a kid, but an adult who suffered chronic insomnia until I went gluten-free and started getting proper nutrition.
  10. Could you please post the full reference? I'd like to read it. Mom has FM and depression and this might help her out!
  11. Even the most grateful of us have our occasional descents into self pity. Glad you got it off your chest and are feeling better this morning. Self pity is is the worst feeling!
  12. Hi and welcome. You might get more answers if you start your own thread. It's hard to know you've switched the subject to your own lab results otherwise. A test result that is within the reference range (between 0 and 10 on your deamidated gliadin) is within the error of the lab and is considered normal. It means that they cannot distinguish your test...
  13. DH can take a while. Your body had to build up all those antibodies in your skin again! Do you have a BJ's in town? They have gluten-free pizza and beer.
  14. As you get more used to the diet, you'll be able to figure out your gluten symptoms compared to symptoms of a regular illness. Some people find that teflon pans can retain a little gluten. Pots and pans you can scrub really well with steel wool are fine to keep using.
  15. That's great news! I'm so happy to hear you're feeling better.
  16. Sounds great. I totally agree that celiacs should not be encouraged to go off the diet on their own. Arlene, I totally know how you feel. Sometimes this diet is a totally unwanted hobby.
  17. I went gluten-free on my own and was never diagnosed but I bet I am truly celiac and not gluten intolerant. No shortage of symptoms, for sure.
  18. I wear one for a naproxen allergy and it has celiac on the back. I wouldn't worry about it for just celiac I don't think.
  19. Thanks so much for the review. I love to get other people's opinions before I order pounds and pounds of flour.
  20. Your total IgA is really low. I'm wondering if you are somewhat IgA deficient. If you want to a pursue medical diagnosis, you might keep eating gluten and see about getting IgG tests. You also need to keep eating gluten until your GI appointment if you are interested in asking for a biopsy. Yes, you can be gluten intolerant with normal bloodwork. Sometimes...
  21. OMG. Iodine breaks me out. If I don't wash off Betadine really, really well I get an itchy rash from it. I don't think it's ever blistered, but I've never left it on, let alone covered it! I bet those super-itchy blisters I used to get on my fingers were DH. Starla - glad to help. I get a ton of knowledge and help myself on this board with gluten...
  22. It's always a good idea to rule out non-celiac causes of symptoms with negative blood tests, especially if the diarrhea didn't go away. It is possible she was still getting gluten somewhere or needed longer to heal. She does have a lot of signs of celiac. The genetic tests are not diagnostic, only an assessment of risk. Celiac is more likely in someone...
  23. Actually there are some people who desensitize. When I went to a celiac conference this spring one of the speakers mentioned it. Here is a case study of someone who was gluten-free for 10 years, gradually introduced gluten, and was able to eat wheat again with no damage and no antibodies. Open Original Shared Link That paper that was all over the...
  24. That's just my own guess from observing friends and family. So far, I have four gluten-free folks among my close friends and three more friends of friends I know of. Counting myself, that's eight and only one is diagnosed celiac. I know three have negative celiac bloodwork. One of these people might be "fadliac" and he is eating grain-free. The rest...
  25. Cheetos, Lay's plain potato chips, Payday bars, Snicker's, packs of peanuts
