ARCHIVED New, Exhausted, Not Yet Diagnosed, Scared
Skylark replied to adab8ca's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome and I'm sorry you're so sick and scared. There are some things you need to know that your neuro seems unaware of. There are neurological forms of celiac disease. You can have an autoimmune reaction in your nervous system that causes all sorts of problems and no gut problems at all. The positive AGA and TTG is a very, very strong indicator that... -
ARCHIVED Is A Long Recovery Normal?
Skylark replied to Zombie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry you feel so rotten. Has your doctor made sure your thyroid is working properly? Spacey/tired can be a sign of hypothryoidism, which tends to go with celiac disease. The neural problems are slower to go away. Some folks with neuro issues notice they have to be super-strict with the diet. The other thing you may want to do is pick up some sublingual... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge With Ridiculous Results
Skylark replied to Marz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you get a really good doctor, he'll tell you a positive response to the gluten-free diet is as good a "gold standard" as anything. Good luck with your elimination! -
ARCHIVED Iga Deficiency....does This Mean Anything?
Skylark replied to klo289's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
IgA/IgG levels only address the way your immune system works overall. The IgA deficiency means they have to use different tests for celiac. Your body would make IgG against gliadin rather than IgA like someone who is not IgA deficient. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative But Diet Is Chaning Everything!
Skylark replied to IngridBeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This board is full of people who tested negative and feel awful when they eat gluten. A bunch more of us never got diagnosed by doctors because they don't suspect celiac often enough. It's great that you found out something simple that makes you feel better and don't worry about what the doctors say. -
ARCHIVED Anybody Opt Out Of Biopsy?
Skylark replied to danaf617's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good luck! I really hope the diet works and you start feeling better. -
ARCHIVED Friend Frustration!
Skylark replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OMG! I had to take a year leave of absence too. My mental health was a wreck and I was exhausted all the time. I went back and finished my PhD so hang in there! -
ARCHIVED Question About Signature
Skylark replied to Frances03's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Here's what I get if I try to link to TrueHope in my signature. It works OK in my profile so presumably the link is not banned. An Error Occurred Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information. [#10211] You may only use up... -
ARCHIVED Question About Signature
Skylark replied to Frances03's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Are URLs supposed to be allowed? It won't let me put a link in my signature at all and the settings say "up to 0 URLs". I wanted to link the EMPowerPlus in case someone is curious. (I have no business association with TrueHope - It's just a product that changed my life so I like to let other bipolars know it exists.) -
ARCHIVED When Do You Know
Skylark replied to kcseb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It sounds like gluten intolerance to me too. Around here, we say "if it makes you feel sick, don't eat it!" I would suggest you try going gluten-free for real for a couple months. You might be surprised at how much better you feel. Your immune system hasn't had a chance to recover from the assault of those occasional sandwiches yet. Giving up Guinness... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Testing?
Skylark replied to Emily22's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, Emily and welcome. I'm a little confused. Is your only "diagnosis" from Enterolab or was a doctor involved? Enterolab tests are only suggestive, not diagnostic. There are antibodies to gluten in your stool, meaning that your body might recognize gluten as foreign and react. A lot of people who have the anti-gliadin antibodies feel better if they... -
ARCHIVED Anxiety!
Skylark replied to revenant's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I overcame a lot of mental problems going off gluten, anxiety included. I was just talking to a friend and she gets anxious when she is short of vitamin B12, which a lot of celiacs don't absorb well. A lot of folks around here take extra B12. I also find inositol powder and fish oil helpful if I get glutened and anxious. -
ARCHIVED Labeled "gluten Free" Vs. No Gluten Listed In Label
Skylark replied to chilligirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I eat the same way, checking ingredients. Since you're diagnosed with blood tests, Chiligirl, your doctor will probably want to test you in six months. If your antibodies are falling or gone, the diet you're following is working for you. Your friend who does all the cooking might be super-sensitive. Some folks get so sick from traces of gluten that... -
ARCHIVED Friend Frustration!
Skylark replied to The Glutenator's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You have an interesting idea of friendship. I would not be calling this person a "friend". -
ARCHIVED What Changes Happen After Diagnosis?
Skylark replied to happylittlemama's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Let's see. I recovered from ... "Gastritis", "IBS", canker sores, borderline anemia, bipolar illness, and fatigue. My hair and nails are stronger too. Oh - I also used to get a rash on my hand that might be DH. I might have missed something but my story is in my profile. -
ARCHIVED Primal Defense Probiotic gluten-free?
Skylark replied to Kathleen Smith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks. The Yakult tastes pretty good at least. I had to take an antibiotic for bronchitis and I always need a good probiotic after to get back to feeling completely well. I try to avoid antibiotics but I really, really needed one this time around. -
ARCHIVED Anybody Opt Out Of Biopsy?
Skylark replied to danaf617's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not formally diagnosed. I didn't even want to go back to eating gluten for the blood panel. RiceGuy said it beautifully. If you're not worried about second-guessing yourself if the diet works, there is really no need for the biopsy. Other GI problems can be picked up whether or not you're on the gluten-free diet, so you're not risking missing a... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease?
Skylark replied to cusefan15's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry to hear about all the trouble. Between the high AGA and feeling better not eating wheat, some of your symptoms could definitely be gluten intolerance. You wouldn't have AGA if your body was completely nonreactive to gluten. You can't worry too much about a "celiac" diagnosis. If gluten makes you sick, don't eat it. I know someone with dry eyes and... -
ARCHIVED Primal Defense Probiotic gluten-free?
Skylark replied to Kathleen Smith's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is supposedly no gluten in barley grass, but how do you know it didn't get any from the seeds? I wouldn't trust it. I've taken FermPlus and liked it. Lately my grocery store started getting Yakult so I'm trying that. -
I didn't remember that metoclopramide is generic for Reglan. yes, that could definitely be playing into the slepiness. Did your doctor talk to you much about the Reglan (metoclopramide)? According to the FDA it's not a drug you want to take for more than 90 days unless you have absolutely no other options. It carries the risk of a very unpleasant permanent...

Oh, yes. It can be gluten. Last time I got into a little gluten I had only a mild stomachache, and actually thought I got away with it. 24 hours later I suffered through three days of anxiety attacks. I wish I was as lucky as you to only feel bad for an hour or two! I have to remind myself it's the gluten for days on end. It can make me depressed...

ARCHIVED Rant On What Gluten Free Really Means...
Skylark replied to NorthernElf's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
"You can't have the sandwiches but you can have the pasta salad." "Oh, really? What are the noodles made of?" "Flour." "And what is the flour made of?" "... Oh. I guess you can't have that either." -
ARCHIVED Possible Celiac Or Gluten Intolerance - Confused!
Skylark replied to IngridBeth's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ow. Bummer. If you're sure it was gluten-free, pay attention to casein from milk, lactose and soy. -
ARCHIVED Inconclusive
Skylark replied to gibsongirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I chose not to be tested. I figured out my gluten intolerance with an elimination diet because I thought I had food allergies. My doctor offered blood tests, but he really wasn't concerned about getting a firm celiac diagnosis if I was eating a celiac diet anyway. I really didn't feel like losing a month (plus recovery time) feeling crummy. I don... -
ARCHIVED Fish Oil ~ Every Day (Multiple Times Even)
