ARCHIVED Do You Use Plates At Other People's Houses?
notme replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i do eat off plates at other people's houses (and other places) - i wouldn't in the beginning. i was too paranoid. now, it is a leap of faith so far, so good! as long as i bring my own food, i'm ok. if i need to get a paper plate from a buffet or potluck, i get it from the middle. -

ARCHIVED Chances Of False Positives? Newly Diagnosed.
notme replied to LRM91's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
no, sweetie, false positives are not common (false negatives, however, are maddeningly common) welcome to the best club you never wanted to join. take a deep breath and read the newbie 101 thread in the 'coping with' section. the good news is: you are on the road to feeling better. we have all been where you are now: don't know what to eat, how could... -
usually, it is a check to lowes haha - my husband is handy and has done most of the work. thank goodness! because the last 3 times we hired someone to do something (1. finish the exterior painting on the upper levels because the hubs keeps falling off the ladder, plus he already had to finish re-roofing the carriage house and get rid of that redneck tarp...

notme posted a topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
i am going to lynn haven, fl, to visit family (getting a new grandbaby! yay!!!) and spend some holiday time with daughter and her family. they like to cook, but aren't gluten-free by any means. i'm thinking, if i can find somewhere safe, that i could pick up a few meals so that they wouldn't have to worry about what they're making for me. they have a...- 3 replies

ARCHIVED Ongoing Symptoms, Not Due To Gluten - Please Help Me Help My Doctor Troubleshoot.
notme replied to jumpingjuniper's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
have you tried taking an allergy medicine? i take zyrtec - the 24 hour kind. if you think it's something you're eating, keep a food journal and compare your symptoms with what you are eating. i hope you get it figured out, but sounds like a combination of allergies or what cyclinglady said ^^ good luck -

check me: went to the butcher yesterday and they didn't have any seafood that we wanted to eat, (i hate farm raised, sorry) so we stopped at the new (HUGE) kroger - so, i am getting oysters and i notice the sign on the lobster tails says "7.99/lb" and i was like 'hmmm..... i wonder how many lobster tails are in a pound...?' turns out, it's FIVE hahahahaaa... -

ARCHIVED What Do You Eat For A Light Breakfast That Is Safe And Doesn't Give You Runs Of Any Kind?
notme replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
it seems i am a probiotic/digestive enzyme pusher this week! lolz i used to have those 'problem mornings' until i started taking these - probiotic 2x per day, digestive enzyme with every meal. otherwise, if i had to do anything in the morning, i would just wait to eat (aka starve to death) but, now, once i get that Morning Constitutional out of the... -

haha - i didn't even see it at first - i probably would have eaten it LOLZ i have grown broccoli before and never found worms. of course, i wasn't looking for them, either!!! once, when i was a kid, my mom cooked some frozen 'brick' chopped spinach (green giant) and there was a bug in it. needless to say, no amount of 'but this is what popeye eats... -

				ARCHIVED Glutened-Little Vent
notme replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
sorry, kiddo (((hugs))) last time i got hit, it was at a Dreaded Restaurant. i also have a delayed reaction, so it's like, 24-48 hrs later when i start feeling crummy. luckily, it's been over a year (wow, i'm getting good at this!) yes, it shall pass. i think people think that the have a worse reaction to getting glutened than before they were gluten... -
i am curious to know what your compounded drugs consist of. are they made into a paste and then put on a patch? powdered? what is the actual delivery mode? i find that i have to take meds (advil, benedryl, etc, what used to be everyday stuff) much more infrequently now that i have been gluten free and my celiac disease has abated. alot of things are...

ARCHIVED Just Have To Get This Out.
notme replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
i broke up with my dad. my mom is dead. i am orphaned :/ my dad is the most unscrupulous man on the planet. if you met him, you would like him, because he is always good to strangers. he saves the 'omg i can't believe he did that' for the family. he treated my mother terribly. he married the perfect woman for him, as she is just as greedy as he... -

ARCHIVED Celiac Symptoms 11 Days After Changed Diet
notme replied to rh13's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
maybe try taking probiotics and/or digestive enzymes. the probiotics will help to re-populate your gut with 'good' bacteria to aid digestion. if you are like many of us, getting every infection known to man was common to us prior to dx, and we have been pumped with antibiotics over the years that kills *all* bacteria in our gut, good and bad. i still take...- 8 replies

ARCHIVED Not Sure What To Think At This Point
notme replied to Lilian30's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
if gluten is a problem for you, you can stop eating it, but you still have all the inflammation that takes awhile to go away. nicole is right, keep a food journal to identify problem foods (not necessarily gluten, keep in mind) and you may have to lay off certain foods until you're healed enough to digest them. you may want to try probiotice and/or digestive... -

				ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
notme replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
yup - thank you for bolstering my point. you don't understand it either, but you are a big fan? the bottom line is: if you lie on your application, you are in violation of the LAW. if the insurance program was actually not discriminating, your application would consist of 2 questions: your age and if you are male or female. any further questions... -

				ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance

you just said: money, money, and paying money. you can call it something different, it is costing more $$.... my kid bought into the *dream* of getting affordable health insurance. he was confident that he could get health insurance if he switched jobs. he can't afford it - month 3 it was insurance or rent, because all of his necessary care wasn... -

ARCHIVED Do You Risk Eating Meat That Says "shared Equipment"?
notme replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
so, you would eat it if it didn't say 'processed in a shared facility' ...... ? have YOU been to the plant?? what is the machine shared with? other meat? all broth doesn't contain gluten. if it does, it has to be labeled. -

				ARCHIVED Celiac Testing And Insurance
notme replied to Water Street's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
maybe, but if you have a pre-existing condition, they will 'get' you in other ways. my son (type 1 diabetic) has a heck of a time getting good insurance - that will pay for his labs, that doesn't have outrageous co-pays and deductibles combined with paying for his insulin and testing supplies. if you think he pays the same as a 'normal' healthy 28 yr old... -
