ARCHIVED "you Can Eat Just A Little Bit, Can't You?"
Marilyn R replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In MHO, she's clearly watching way too much entertainment TV and reading too many magazines. I applaud you for your restraint and decorum. I probably would have had to had to bring up Adam and Eve and the apple, or GFinDc's quote in his tag line from Job. Happy Mardi Gras anyway, and way to go! -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Coffee
Marilyn R replied to Tiredsean's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I couldn't tolerate coffee for awhile after going gluten-free. It aggravated my gut. I now enjoy coffee, but only 1/2 - 1 mug a day vs. the 2-4 mugs daily I used to be addicted to. Green tea was an okay substitute for awhile. I think it varies from person to person. -
ARCHIVED Newbie- Seeing Gi About Celiac Disease
Marilyn R replied to jennlea's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jenn, and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you've had a rough run for a few years. Your post made me think of a couple of things that might help you. Regarding family history, have your grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins been diganosed with other autoimmune diseases? (Cancer, diabetes, M.S., Leukemia...or irritable bowel syndrome... there are... -
I think using it a couple of weeks are enough to train youself to sleep on your side. The other thing I thought of is getting a copy of your sleep study analysis. If you live in the US, you qualify for oxygen if you spend 30 minutes or more under 88% oxygen saturation. Most insurance companies honor that. It would be good to know how many desaturation...

ARCHIVED Newbie - Could I Be Celiac?
Marilyn R replied to adogg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Alan, my best doctor who I love to bitts readily states that we all know the blood tests are unreliable at best. I wish you the best in good health. -
I don't know if this will help you or not, but some people with mild sleep apnea benefit from sleeping in an XL tee shirt with 3 tennis balls sewn down the back. You stick a ball in an athletic sock, stich it up, and repeat twice (at intervals) , then sew the sock onto the back of a tee shirt. I'm not even close to being Betty Crocker, but I made one...

ARCHIVED Newbie - Could I Be Celiac?
Marilyn R replied to adogg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Alan, Even though you might feel like it's a bummer that the initial results came back positive for celiac, remember that it's not necessarily a bummer. It could be an answer vs. a problem. You can control the disease by what you stick in your mouth, that's a good thing! Two months is a long time to wait for the endoscopy, but you've already... -

OMG! My uncontollable diahhrea was the result of my emotional problems! I never thought of that. I thought the shame and depression were because of the D and malabsorbtion, guess I had it all bass ackwards, as well as my board certified gastroenterologist who told me to continue with the gluten-free diet despite negative test results, which are unreliable...

ARCHIVED What Did You Have For Lunch Today?
Marilyn R replied to love2travel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Plain Greek yogurt with sliced fruit, a drizzle of honey and unsalted sunflower seeds. I use yogurt all the time as a substitute for sour cream. Dear other can't tell the difference. (A dallop on soup or baked potato, on top of nachos, in pancakes. And the d dog loves any leftovers. -

ARCHIVED Good Seasons Italian Dressing Mix Has Gluten Now
Marilyn R replied to lovegrov's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The pessimist in me says they'll introduce a gluten-free version, label it as such and charge 65% more for it. I get so irritated when I see coupons for Bisquick limitted to the traditional or low fat version. Why don't they just come out and say "Applies to all varieties except gluten-free". I rarely buy Bisquick, but think I'm going to stop altogether...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Newbie - Could I Be Celiac?
Marilyn R replied to adogg's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, you could have celiac disease. There are more than 200 symptoms associated with celiac disease, and you've named a number of them. In case you aren't already aware, it's vital to continue consuming gluten until after your blood tests and endoscopy. Good luck to you, hope you're on the road to better health and quality of life! -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Marilyn R replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
It was downright cold in Florida this weekend. (Really, I swear.) I made red beans and rice yesterday and have chili in the crock pot for tomorrow. Former boyfriend known as "other" smoked a chicken today. I stuck 1/2 a lime and an onion in it. Had that with smashed potatoes and really awful gravy with salad. He's lucky. (So am I.) -
ARCHIVED New To gluten-free, Question About Cravings
Marilyn R replied to brewstate's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm not saying I'm normal, but I had and continue to have simalar cravings for dairy since going gluten-free. It drove me crazy when I had to give up dairy for awhile. During that time, I used coconut milk quite a bit in curries (Indian and Thai recipes.) Maybe he'd like curried fish (or chicken) over rice. -

Sorry a lot again to respond so late, I was sick and am sparing you from the sordid details. Feb 17. WPB, FL, bring on the cabana (or regurlar) boys & come on down, y'all. -

Crap! That means, at the end of this, that I have to keep SUD. It always turns out like this. (Ya'll are still welcome down. We'll just leave suck up Danny for driving & emptying our tanks & general banter, occasional banging.) -
ARCHIVED Confused.... A Little Frustrated
Marilyn R replied to nineof9's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My endocrinologist says the blood tests (for celiac) are not reliable. He's a really good doctor. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Marilyn R replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We could actually do it, you know ... have a group meet up in South Florida for the gluten-free expo. I'll keep SUD until ya'll find me a suitable cabana boy because I'm scared of driving the RV and don't know how to discard the gray or black water tank, and have no intention of learning. It's 80 degrees here, and a mere 2 miles from the beach. I bet... -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat
Marilyn R replied to jess-gf's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I walked out of my office laughing (maybe even snorting) last night. SUD asked me what was so funny. I told him I was on my forum, we were all laughing about his salmon. -
The What's For Dinner Tonight Chat

Our horrid, vicious, but very pretty little dog (he calls her Lindsey Lo) peed in my roommate's bed on NY Eve when the fire works went off! I came very close to peeing my pants laughing about it, because he turned into Elmer Fudd. So Karen, if you're watchin, I don't sleep with him. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Bisquick
Marilyn R replied to DavinaRN's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I swear, please don't use it for pizza dough. It''s bad enough as bisquit mix. Much better alternatives for pizza are Chebes , Against the Grain or Glutinos, not necessarily in that order. -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Bisquick
Marilyn R replied to DavinaRN's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I make the mix with a T of extra fat - butter or bacon grease - and cook them up, freeze the left overs. If you have an indorr (like G. Foreman) grill, they heat up beautifully in that. Otherwise, you could toast them. Then they're great for breakfast bisquits.
