ARCHIVED Stupid Mistake - I Should Know Better By Now..
IrishHeart replied to LauraB0927's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh sweetheart Rosetapper!! I just have to clarify.....I was addressing LAURA B, the OP.. (because that's her name)--with that silly kidding slap across the face emoticon. I think you saw "Laura "and thought I had "slapped you" But you know that I do send you prayers and wishes all the time and I have been wondering what's been going on with... -
ARCHIVED 10Th Year gluten-free... 10Th Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe
IrishHeart replied to mushroom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I used to love the traditional sage and apple dressing I made (in the "old days") and I was skeptical about trying this one in the crock pot at Thanksgiving this year, but it was really very good. I was stunned. even my Mom liked it --a lot!---and she is picky about such things. I followed it as written (as I do the first time I try anything) . I used... -

.......let's hope everyone got some of whatever makes them jolly--there, that should cover all the bases! If'n I were there with you, I'd be opting for the hot tub....man, this body could use one of those. Many years ago, we decided to go with building the pool (yes, we put it in ourselves) because of course, I was younger, not sick yet nor stiff as... -

IrishHeart replied to susieL.17's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree, As we heal from the damage from celiac, a positive attitude is essential. No "Debbie Downers", doubters or angry/negative people allowed around me anymore. Works for me! -

ARCHIVED Help! Tips On Substituting Guar Gum For Xanthan Gum Needed
IrishHeart replied to megsybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Okay, hon ......whatever works best. I was just sharing exactly what she wrote --in Living Without Magazine ----where she writes monthly articles and recipes---and from what my own personal baking experiences have rendered. I am not sure why she changes her opinion about this from source to source--that does seem rather confusing ?? hmm.. ... -

ARCHIVED I Forgot, Then I Remembered And Now I Really Remember!
IrishHeart replied to AnnJay's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Eggs are gluten free, hon. Many of us have trouble with eggs, but it is NOT because they contain gluten. What you are reading is just that--people's opinions and endless speculation. We have discussed this topic to death on here and I have searched long and hard to find any scientific evidence that gluten grains somehow pass through a chicken... -
ARCHIVED What Aspects Cause What Symptoms?
IrishHeart replied to Em314's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
In addition to Rosetapper's excellent thoughts, may I suggest reading a copy of Recognizing Celiac Disease by Cleo J. Libonati. I think she really wrote it for health practitioners, but it is in layman's terms and I found it incredibly informative. It helped me understand what had gone so horribly wrong in my own body from long unDXed celiac disease... -

ARCHIVED Mojo Returning?
IrishHeart replied to Celiac Mindwarp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just saw this thread (sorry to be so late) and wanted to say WHOOHOO! to getting your mojo .....and your groove.... back, MW. (sorry you have the flu right now, but that is just a crappy part of life and soon you will be "good mojo-ing" once more.) Addy will make fun of me now for making up another word. I "get" why those days of feeling... -
ARCHIVED New Grist Cc Issues
IrishHeart replied to buckwheat's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Their website claims " It is the first beer to be certified gluten-free by the US Government. Each batch we brew is tested for its gluten contents before it is bottled and shipped." Sounds like the same disclaimer as on any certified gluten free product. Not sure how anyone can say with certainty that a particular 6 pack is cross contaminated. I have... -
ARCHIVED Help! Tips On Substituting Guar Gum For Xanthan Gum Needed
IrishHeart replied to megsybeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use X-gum or guar gum interchangeably without problems. From Beth Hillson, who is the Food Editor of Living Without Magazine (she is also President of the American Celiac Disease Alliance as well as the founder of the Gluten Free Pantry line of products). She wrote this: If a recipe calls for xanthan gum, can I use guar gum instead? This... -
This is good news! "Not cancer" is always good news. I am sorry you have to be operated on( as the other option is less invasive), but if it gives you any encouragement at all, my (then) 82 year old Mom had brain surgery for a dangerous subdural hematoma. She had a few weeks of a b%$@#in shaved head hairdo that we threatened to dye purple ( we were...

ARCHIVED Self-Gifting For Christmas
IrishHeart replied to Razzle Dazzle Brazell's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Absolutely! I'd rather spend $$ on kitchen toys than on clothing, shoes, makeup or any of that girlie stuff.. Besides books, the best food prep /cooking/baking equipment there is--is a necessity of life! IMHO Do not feel guilty, hon. Do you work hard for your money? YES! Well, it's yours to spend any way you wish, as long as you are not squandering... -

Actually, if you are the one to "coin it", you get to determine how it is spelled. Through usage, any word can become part of the vernacular.(sadly) Yet, some are pretty cool. And, I did not make up this word Redunkulous: http://www.urbandict...erm=Redunkulous Sorry you are feeling yucky, Addy and I hope you recover quickly. xx This...
