  1. Since you have used the term "chemists" for pharmacy, are you in the UK or Ireland perhaps?? Guess the US docs are not alone....
  2. That's because we are not REALLY sick, honey---we're just anxious and depressed and......wait for it......menopausal.....
  3. So, after I posted my cynical thoughts about the medical profession this AM, I went to the dentist and the Newsweek magazine just fell open to THIS article (honest) and I laughed and thought, O M G! they have to see this. Here is one tidbit: "The average time a patient has to present his concerns before being interrupted by the doctor? ...
  4. Think Big Pharma controls the health care profession? I was never this jaded in my thinking until the last few years when I received the worst medical "care" possible. No help; just a shoebox full of drugs. You can't believe the stuff I was given just to pacify me. Doctors push meds --to "symptom-treat" before they even try to think of a CAUSE...
  5. The migraine story made me recall..a few years ago, hubs took me to the ER for a vicious migraine, complete with vomiting and light flashes. I have on sunglasses (it is night time now ) and I just wish someone would rip my head off so it will stop. She is having trouble finding a vein to put in an IV to hydrate me and ends up butchering my arms, finally deciding...
  6. Additional products people ask about: San-J Organic Tamari Gluten Free Soy Sauce is available. McCormick single spice/herbs and vanilla are gluten free. For spice blends, be sure to read the labels!! Spice blends can not hide grain (gluten). Seasoning blends are a whole different ball game.
  7. I saw this topic title and thought....they should PM Raven...but here she is! and Sjorgen's comes to mind as well. Elevated IgA levels are found in various autoimmune disorders and infections, but given your family history and his symptoms, well...gluten intolerance seems very possible. Just because he is negative on blood work doesn't rule...
  8. The book was written in 1916 but is still a valuable resource, according to the study from 2007. Just FYI "DH was first described by Dr. Louis Duhring in 1884, four years before Samuel Gee made sense of the "coeliac affliction". In 1967 Janet Marks of England discovered the link between intestinal biopsy and skin biopsy results of DH patients...
  9. You have been diagnosed and you do not know what to do next. First, do not panic! and Welcome to the Forum! I have posted this information in pieces and parts on this site during the past year so many times and some newbies suggested it would have been helpful if they had seen it ALL --right away after they were DXed.... so, I thought, why not paste...
  10. Don't! You felt rotten and whatever way you expressed it, is valid. Unless you called her a *$#*@# ??. (then, maybe a sheepish "sorry" is in order??)
  11. I would have said: I don't know about you, but I feel like sh*t
  12. Thank you for all of your help, IH. It's quite a world to try and navigate and your guidance has made the transition much easier. :)

  13. Sadly, this is what they do--give antibiotics for every damn thing. I had similar experiences. I would often just toss the script away, knowing full well, it was not the answer to the problem I was having. (this is also why we have more gut issues--unbalanced gut bacteria) Glad you found a good doctor!
  14. O M G and sunova.... PLEASE tell me you are going back to tell this jerkward you have a thyroid DX! Look him right in the face. This guy was not only out of line with his comments--he left you UnDXed!!! This makes me crazy --as it is all too familiar (see my posts)--and I fear, it goes on more often than we will ever know.
  15. Hon, with all due respect, I do not think anyone is being confrontational with you. We are offering our best advice, our combined years of experience and knowledge and helping others be less worrisome while learning to negotiate the gluten free waters. Someone asking another member for a source is not " being difficult or confrontational", but just seeking...
  16. O M G!!! --I thought my stories were absurd, but this one calls for the ever-popular WTF???? "allowed to look at??"....what a bunch of BS.....O M G.....Sorry, Jane. (hug)
  17. I knew all that when I wrote the letters, K. I did it for me, mostly. And they were firm, factual and non-inflammatory in tone and context. But I pointed fingers and I had the facts on my side. I was married to a lawyer once (almost became one myself ) and I knew full well none of them would admit to a damn thing in writing. One did call and leave...
  18. Knock it off, you "Cougar"! hahaha There are some fresh ones who "get it"--like mine. He has the challenge of (1) diagnosing people properly (2) undoing the damage his colleagues have done and (3) trying to convince the old guard in his practice that they are missing the damn boat. Poor guy. He did not intend to become a celiac specialist,...
  19. YES!!!!!!!!!!! Read Dr. Fasano's "Where Have all the American Celiacs Gone?" he figured out back in '96 that it was likely from lack of diganosis that the numbers of us were so small --not because there were so few celiacs--- but because no one was diagnosing them properly. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1651-2227.1996.tb14242.x...
  20. I sent the letter to her (the NP) and a copy to the doctor who owns the practice and to the MD/"holistic" doc I was also seeing at the time who also missed the DX and told me "volunteer work" would be good for me as it would get my mind off the constant pain and my hair loss, etc. I posted that doozy of a story earlier in the thread. It's okay. They...
  21. I agree totally with Shroom's advice. I learned about getting testing results the hard way. I trusted too much and did not learn about a huge error that was made by my former GI doctor until it was too late. In April 2009, he scoped me and recommended that we continue the course we were on (various GERD and IBS medicines) despite my rapid 90 lbs. weight...
  22. I am so sorry to hear this news, Marilyn. And as always, I am appalled at the lack of good care we have both received during our long ordeal of trying to be DXed and to get well. If it matters, I was tested repeatedly for Lyme-- because of the many shared symptoms-- and the specialist told me flat out, he was sure I did not have it, but that the two diseases...
  23. You're such a sweet person...please do me the honor of being my "friend",I added you to my friends List, hope you don't mind!If you ever feel like "chatting" drop me a line!

  24. fantastic! progress--in any form--is cause for celebration!xxooIH
