ARCHIVED 1St Holiday Season After Dx - How Did You Feel/do/cope?
IrishHeart replied to tonalynn's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
A few thoughts: (1) I always use lard for pie crust. I'm old school. before DX and still. Nothing like it. IMHO (2) The UDIs baguettes will never be the baguettes I used to make, but they are not THAT bad. Just don't cook them too long, that's all. I had one today and it was still squishy inside. (3) the pumpkin cheesecake pie recipe was really... -

ARCHIVED Gaps Diet Question? And Yoghurt Recipe?
IrishHeart replied to YPG's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You are very wise to be skeptical, IMHO. Keep doing your research before you decide what is best for you. I have read a few articles about this woman and her claims about healing ALL diseases and disorders, but I do not know of any way to be "cured" of celiac so you can resume eating gluten without consequences.. At least, that "miracle" has not happened... -

ARCHIVED Questions About Anxiety & Probiotics
IrishHeart replied to Raywuwei's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Steph raises a good point. I, too, can get "antsy and racy" if I am accidentally glutened. I can lose sleep, etc. and feel "off" and worrisome. I wonder....have you recently eaten out, added in some new food or product? sometimes, a low dose trace of it can tweak us.- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Questions About Anxiety & Probiotics
IrishHeart replied to Raywuwei's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I believe that probiotics are safe to take every day. I recently heard Dr.Fasano say that creating a health microbiome (i.e. the gut) populated with "good guys" bacteria will benefit the whole body. And that would include the adrenals and the brain. A B-12 or folate deficiency could possibly contribute to anxiety issues. To answer your question, yes...- 7 replies

Just a minute here while we review how this tangent started because apples/oranges are being mixed Glutenmaestro said: Since a third of the US population has a celiac gene, and the condition can be triggered at any point in someone's life 1/3 of the US population is certainly not the same as 30% of Caucasian individuals ?? right... -

ARCHIVED Rotisserie Chickens
IrishHeart replied to CeeLeighacLady's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have eaten both Rotisserie chicken offerings from BJs. No problems whatsoever. They are Purdue brand and another brand (whose name escapes now but I'll look it up and get back to you) We own a counter top rotisserie, but it's a giant pain in the cluck to clean and sometimes, I am a lazy bones. This way is a whole lot easier. -

They better be okay, I've got a mouthful of the caramel one right now and mmmfff mfs ..yum. ARCHIVED Did Anyone See The New Study Published About Gluten In Orthodontic Materials?
IrishHeart replied to BelleVie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, I was curious about what GlutenMaestro posted, so I did a search and found this on the University of Chicago Celiac Center's website: "When the genetic predisposition for celiac disease was detected (on Chromosome 6) researchers noted that the genes were a necessary but not sufficient condition for the disease to develop. In fact, up to 1/3 of the... -
ARCHIVED May Contain Trace Amounts... A Question
IrishHeart replied to mshanson3121's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
"may contain wheat" is a deal breaker for me. IMHO that "may" make me pretty sick.... why risk it? Plenty of other candies to choose from. -
You sound like you have gluten intolerance or celiac disease to me. Your symptoms surely suggest this anyway. IMHO Have you seen a good Gastroenterologist for the constant diarrhea? You need to have a celiac panel done...pronto! You can't really handle enormous stress if your body is not well, hon. This is not your fault and you are not imaging things...

A third of the US population has the celiac gene? I have never seen that estimate before. Can you point me to that Pub Med article please? thanks! Just a note about the celiac-related genes. Just because someone has the HLA-DQ2 or DQ8 gene, it does not mean the person will definitely develop celiac disease. It just means there is a risk associated with... -

Mom, Please hang in there and watch him for more improvements. I strongly feel that being G F will help your son. IMHO.
