  1. I spent 5 or 6 night there last year and ate very sucessfully. I don't remember all the places, but here are some. We ate at Outback, and Maggiano's and In and Out Burger (that one is back off the strip some) For breakfast we ate at Mon Ami Gabi (in Paris); Hash House a Gogo and the Peppermill (Peppermill was risky, not sure I would do it again although...
  2. We have one in Melbourne Florida called the Bald Strawberry. I havn't tried it yet, but really want to! I found it on tripadvisor and right now it is the number one ranked restaurant in the area!
  3. The cafeteria at the company I work for sells fries and although I wouldn't eat them becuase of the shared frier, I did ask to see the ingredient list becuase they looked like they had a extra cripy coating and sure enough the third ingredient was wheat flour. Now these didn't look coated like a Checker's fry, they just didn't look like a nice smooth fry...
  4. I have traveled to Aruba twice and been very sucessful. Yes there is a little bit of a language barrier, but I emailed many restaurants prior to going, printed all the emails and carried them when I went. I even had a restaurant from a previous visit we wanted to go to that made the meal I wanted gluten free although it wouldn't normally be gluten free...
  5. By any chance did they test his TPO? If they did and that is elevated then that with the elevated and continuing to elevate numbers would be enough to send him to an Endo. Do you need a referal or can you make an appt yourself? Without a referal it might take a little longer to get into someone but I would try my darndest.
  6. The ranges on the lab paperwork should be the same or close to the same from each lab, no matter if it was taken at a hospital or a free standing lab, but they are just a reference point. I do not express myself well in typed communications, I am better at verbalizing, so bear with me some here. What I was really trying to get at is that a Pediatric Thyroid...
  7. Children's range for TSH are the same as an adult. A good endocrinologist will agree that that number should be 3.0 or less. My son has been on meds since he was 5 and feels best at 2.5. And it was obvious to us as well as the dr' so that is where they keep him ( he will be 17 next week). I was told as well as read on a mayo clinic website at the...
  8. I know that you said your vitamin levels are normal, but sometimes just because they are within the normal range on the lab paperwork it doesn't really mean it is suffecient. If you are the low end of normal, then you can be defiecient. Also not everyone is the same so one person may feel good with a B12 number of say 200 (the lowest end of normal) and...
  9. My only problem with them is that they are addictive! I buy one bag a week eat it way to fast and then make myself suffer until the next week. When I travel and HAVE to buy more than one bag then I am in trouble. My favorite are the kettle ones, hate the Carmel ones! Lol
  10. MitziG - You are so right, we do have to laugh, only after it is all over though! I have many more where that came from, that was probably the worst. I am also lactose intolerent and have had a few bad incidents with that pre diagnosis and well. I can remember being at Epcot waiting to get on a ride and them announcing that there was no exit for 4...
  11. Pre diagnosis - floating in an intertube down a natural river. You jumped in with your tube at one point and the first pull out point was an hour down the river. There was no possible way to get out of the river as the sides were all marsh and if you try to step onto the ground it was so deep a muck that is sucked your foot in. I don't think we had been...
  12. WitsEnd, we don't have a Maggiano's close so I had never eaten there since being gluten free. Usually when I go out to eat especially when I travel I will contact a bunch of places before hand online and ask about gluten free and specifically what I am thinking I will have and ask about the cooking process (or if if is bbq, I will ask about beer or soy sauce...
  13. We were just ther October of 2013 and I had no problem. I ate at a couple of chains I knew were safe and a few local places, here is what I had success with: Maggiano's at the fashion mall Outback (I think there are three on the strip) 9 Fine Irishmen in NYNY BLT Burger in the Mirage For breakfast we did: Mon Ami Gabi - Paris Peppermill - I...
  14. I found Dawn free and clear a few weeks ago at Walmart, but I am even reacting to that, so only Palmolive free and clear for me. Weird thing is when I was younger, maybe 11 I reacted to every dish soap as well as body soap out there except Ivory.
  15. I tried one with a Cup4Cup flour, it was very good and I am sure you could experiment with your own flour mixture. I always experiment with 1/2 the recipe for my first try. 2 packets active quick rise dry yeast 2 cups warm water 5 1/2 cups Cup4Cup all purpose gluten free flour 3 Tablespoons Sugar 2 Teaspoons Salt 2 quarts boiling water 2 Teaspoons...
  16. I have, while traveling and have not had a problem. I do remind them that I need fresh eggs, nothing from a container or mix and not the omlette eggs with the batter in them. Do I take a chance ABSOLUTLY, but I do that anytime I eat out. Eating out is like russian roulette, I ask the right questions and double check everything, but I still have no...
  17. I am not a dr and I am speaking from my personal experience: Do you know what your ANA number was? I have have a slightly positive ANA (Anti Nucular Antibodies) for years, approximately 10. I see a rheumatologist annually that tests me for the items (maybe not all) that gluten-free Lover mentions above. She also tests my vitamin levels. My ANA has...
  18. Borland-Groover Clinic in St. Augustine. Dr. Pineau or a female there, Dr. Hoogerwerf are both great, there is a Borland-Groover in Jacksonville too, but I have no experience with the doctors.
  19. I subscribed to Tasterie for several months, They have a few different options but I was getting the $25.00 a month package. I was very pleased with the process and the packaging and everyting. I did discontinue this service, but it was because more of the things I recieved in the box were things I would not normally purchase since I don't eat many things...
  20. I get my 4th B12 shot today (one a week), I have been gluten free for 2 years and recently started experiencing a burning sensation in my feet. When I asked the Dr. he said that is mostly a dieabetic thing or B12 defficiency and I am not diabetic so he tested my B12. It came back low, after this week I will go to a monthly shot then be retested and hopefully...
  21. I read this question different than most people, I am thinking you are asking if your reaction to a crumb or small amount would be the same as if you ate (or when you ate before diagnosis) a lot of gluten. For me I get the exact same reaction now if I accidently get a little from cross contaminiation (because I would never knowing eat a small amount...
  22. I am attending a wedding this weekend. My dinner choices on the RSVP card were Chicken Caccatore and Roast Beef, I knew the chicken would be breaded and hoped I could eat the beef, and chose that. I called ahead and asked to speak to the chef, we talked extensively about the menu and what was going into the roast beef for cooking and any type of gravy...
  23. I have Hoshi's and have been hypo since diagnosis 2 years ago, even though my TSH was down to .11 (my dr wanted it here becuase of nodules and not wanting them to grow) I was still have signs of being hypo. THEN I started was some more neurological issues, ones I had had before I found out I had Celiac, but now they were happening more often. Extensive...
  24. For pasta, especailly when I need a spagetti type replacement I use either Mi Fun Oriental noodles or bean thread oriental noodles. Personally in the two years I have been doing this, I found that if the recipe had to be altered to make it gluten free I don't care for it and both of the products are "original" products. Then again I already ate these items...
  25. Make sure they test your thyroid antibodies, which is the TPO test, it is not your "standard" thyroid tests. I had my TSH tested all the time because I showed signs of thyroid issues and my mother, grandmother and even my son had thyroid disease. All those tests were always normal, but my TPO was way off, unfortunately for me I was covered in DH (didn't...
