  1. Maybe vitamin/calcium depletion from the pregnancies? A damaged small intestine from celiac would certainly make it much worse. Do you have any history of rheumatoid arthritis in your family? Do your joints actually look red and swollen, or just feel sore/stiff? My mother, who's had celiac since infancy, has had sore/stiff joints from celiac. Also...

    ARCHIVED Fast Food?

Careful of the "plain" grilled chicken at FF places - their chicken patties/filets could be injected with gluten containing flavorings. I learned this the hard way. . .
  3. Is it falling out, growing back in, then falling out, growing. . etc? Or is it falling out and leaving nothing but scalp? Here's a good "kids" page on hair loss. Open Original Shared Link
  4. Oooo, it's in there somewhere! I'm going through a similar thing. I just spent 2 weeks at my (celiac) mother's taking care of her cats, and aside from stupidly glutening myself with some chocolate (eden soy) soymilk, I was fine - even the cat dander didn't bother my allergies. I've been home for about a week now and I'm coming apart at the seams - allergies...
  5. I have ridged fingernails. I heard there's a connection with my juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. One of the first things my rheumatologist said to me was to point out my long fingers and ridged nails - both idicators for JA and RA. I wonder if it could be an indicator for autoimmune disease in general?
  6. There's a ton of places in the Orlando area. Here's some with gluten-free menus. PF Changs at the Millenia Mall 407-345-2888 Outback Steakhouse FL Mall Ave 407-240-6857 Orlando Airport 407-851-1334 I-Drive 407-477-0098 BoneFish Grill 7830 W. Sand Lake Rd. 407-355-7707 ...

    ARCHIVED Cannot Get Help

That's outrageous. Here's suggested follow up care (including bloodwork) from Open Original Shared Link
  8. Sounds like you got a lazy and/or poorly trained operator. I'd give 'em the benefit of the doubt, try again and see what they say. If it's the same response a second time, then whoa, something's serious wrong with GM.
  9. "Hi, my name is Linda and I'm an alcoholic." >alltogethernow< "Hi, Linda!" I've been clean and sober for 19 years and everybody asks me, "How do you do it?!", so I tell them it's very simple - I don't drink. I'm honest with myself and I do whatever I need to do not to drink today. If that means going to a support group then I'm there. Not hanging...
  10. I'm quoting Dr. Alessio Fasano here, sorry I don't have the link. ". . .this observation has been expanded to other regional areas, including North Africa, Asia, Oceania and South America, where celiac disease is now recognized as a frequent condition affecting approximately 0.5% to 1% of the general population." ". . .The bottom line is that if you search...
  11. No, I don't think so. North Africans and some Asian groups have high rates of celiac.
  12. Yeah, if the poor guy's cancer is nearing the terminal stage she may just figure why not let him have his favorite dessert now, while he still can.
  13. All the autoimmune disorders tend to cluster. I guess it's like a bad wheel on a wagon, once one spoke breaks the whole wagon starts to wobble! I have sjogren's, celiac and I've had active juvenile rheumatoid arthritis since infancy. My mother has celiac and vitiligo. Other autoimmune disorders in my family: ulcerative colitis, multiple sclerosis, and...
  14. Could be gallstones, they might not show up on ultrasound, especially if they're already in the "main" duct. Open Original Shared Link
  15. My mother, also celiac, has this Open Original Shared Link. I never knew you could get stones in your salivary gland. She tries to stay away from the antibiotics if she can, I think mostly to avoid going to the doctor! She uses lemon drops, makes sure she drinks enough fluid, etc. I've been diagnosed with sjogren's (show-grins) syndrome, it causes dry...
  16. Some of the smaller size candy bars ("Snack", "minis" etc) aren't gluten-free even if the regular size is gluten-free, different process I guess. (one exception is 3 musketeers - full, snack and bite size are all gluten-free) To add to the list: Charleston Chews, Milky Way Midnight, Cella's chocolate covered cherries, Jelly Belly jelly beans, Jolly Rancher...
  17. 100% Irish and 10% German
  18. I use Silk too. This is the funny tag line on their cartons: "Silk Soymilk is free of lactose, dairy, cholesterol, gluten, eggs, casein, peanuts, MSG and worries. You still have to pay for it though." When I first started the diet a year ago I was slightly lactose intolerant, so Silk was just a "in the meantime" drink till my small intestine was up and...
  19. I was glutened pretty badly by the GM Neopets cereal . I'm sure it was CC because I'd already eaten several boxes of the stuff, over 3-4 months, and not had any problem then I opened a new box and got sick. I cleared my diet of all possible suspect foods and then reintroduced them, the Neopets caused an immediate reaction. In a facility that produces...
  20. Yes, Lipton's is gluten-free. You can always call the 1800 number on the box if you're unsure. Here's the tea listing from the Wheaton (Chicago area) Celiac Support Group. Tea Arizona (800 227-3775): all (2/04) ASHBYS of London Teas (800-334-6485) (08/04) Big Train Chai (800 682-5047) (www.chaitea.com): Spiced, Vanilla, Raspberry, Chocolate, Green...

WooHoo! Congrats! Everybody throw gluten-free rice!

    ARCHIVED Pf Changs

A server there once refused to give us the steamed rice because she thought it contained gluten. We tried to explain that only, "Wheat, rye, oats or barley. . ." were on the forbidden list but she just said, "well, it (the steamed rice) has loads of all that!" then she hurried away. With difficult waiters it's hard to say sometimes, some are truely ignorant...
  23. PF Changs Their singapore noodles with chicken and shrimp is a wonder to behold. Unfortunatly it's a haul to get there - about 1 1/2 hrs. (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) Sometimes I go to their website just to reminisce.
  24. WOW. I thought I was the only one! I've tried multi-vits, calcium mix and B complex vits, all gluten free but it's no use. I don't know what it is. I can't eat yogurt either w/o the same doubling over pain. I'm not lactose intolerent. Very weird. My grandmother turned bright orange after taking too much niacin but I don't think it's the same thing.
  25. From the Wheaton gluten-free Support Group mainstream product listing: "Planters: Nuts (roasted & salted only; no "flavors" except Honey Roasted); Trail Mix Caramel Nut Crunch; cheez balls, cheez curls." I believe I've been gluten by Planter's nut/seed mix so now I make my own.
