Congrats Angie!!! That is awesome! Right now it's up in the air between a party at my friends house or sitting home with my husband enjoying one of the many bottles of champagne I aquired over the holidays. The party would be fun but hubby doesn't want to go; and while I normally have no problem just normally going by myself, I don't really want to...

ARCHIVED Am I Being Unreasonable, Or Is He?
jkmunchkin replied to emcmaster's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
He's being unreasonable. The cat can sleep in the laundry room on a plushy cat bed. Tell him to think of it this way, now the cat will have his very own bedroom... how exciting! -
ARCHIVED I'm Having A Really Rough Time
jkmunchkin replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you sure their chicken is gluten free? Maybe they changed the recipe, but I remember looking at it about a year ago and the seasoning had wheat in it. I'd be psyched if they did change it because I live about 5 minutes from a Sam's Club and it would be great to know I can get this for a quick dinner. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Resist The Temptation?
jkmunchkin replied to jamrock's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Mentally I just really don't allow myself to be tempted. It was like the second I was diagnosed my brain shut off all cravings for things I can no longer have. I really can't even explain it. It's like this sick will power thing. If the thought even so much as crosses my mind, not in a craving way, but if I'm in a room with a bunch of gluten stuff and... -
ARCHIVED Lipton Onion Soup Mix?
jkmunchkin replied to nikki8's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The regular Lipton Onion Soup Mix should be gluten free, but I believe the Kosher version is not. Just be careful when buying it, it doesn't say Kosher on the front. -
ARCHIVED Kraft Mac N' Cheese Powder Cheese Packet
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
LOL!! So funny to see one of my old posts. I've never had Velvetta so I can't comment on that, but the Kraft Mac n' Cheese powder on Tinkyada pasta makes an identical mac n' cheese. Yum!! -
I had my 1st follow up endoscopy yesterday since being dx'd almost a year and a half ago. My doctor wanted to do a colonoscopy at the same time, since I've never had one. The colonoscopy showed a slight hemroid, no suprise and no big deal. Although the prep was super fun!! I had to go to my primary doctor today for another appointmet (thyroid), and he...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Bread Basket
jkmunchkin replied to gymnastjlf's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I'm so sad. I got an email today saying The Gluten Free Breadbasket is closing as of this Saturday (Dec. 30th). I absolutely loved their bread. I can eat it without toasting it. I don't know what I'm going to do. Their bread changed my life. -
ARCHIVED I'm Having A Really Rough Time
jkmunchkin replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just wrote you a really long thing of advice and lost it, so here's the condensed version. LOL!! It seems like your trusty relative is going through some drama of her own, and rather than torment yourself trying to help both you and her, maybe be a bit selfish and worry about you. It sounds like she doesn't want to talk right now and you have certainly... -
I'm in Westchester (NY). I grew up right on the border of CT, and go to our Wilton office for work once a week. I just recently found an incredible health food store right in town in New Cannan. They have tons of gluten-free products that a lot of the other stores don't have. It's called Healthfare. There is a store with the same name in Trumbull. I went...

ARCHIVED Stainless Steel Appliances?
jkmunchkin replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah that is a good point. I can see how some would say the steel has a cold look to it, but my kitchen walls are painted in a very deep, rich red color, with antiqued white cabinets and a yellow based granite countertop with flecks of shades of browns, black, even a bit of red (madura gold is the name of the granite color). It has a very rich, but warm tone... -
ARCHIVED Stainless Steel Appliances?
jkmunchkin replied to jesscarmel's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We got a clean steel fridge. It looks just like the stainless steal but doesn't show all the finger prints. Unfortunately unless you plan on spending a lot of money, I don't think most appliances (stove / oven, dishwasher) come in the clean steel. But we got them in the regular stainless steel and it doesn't show to many finger prints. We just recently... -
ARCHIVED Fun In December Thread
jkmunchkin replied to ryebaby0's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay technically this happened in November but I think it counts anyway. We were hanging out at my hubby's parents house and they wanted to go out for lunch. His dad asked what I was in the mood for and I said I could kinda go for Outback because they have a gluten-free menu. He didn't know that, but then said oh then we'll definately go there. So me,... -
ARCHIVED Christmas Memories
jkmunchkin replied to Kaycee's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ok well since I'm Jewish most of my Christmas memories are of having "Jewish Christmas", aka going to the movies and having Chinese food. LOL!! But my husband is Roman Catholic and seeing as how we dated for about 8 1/2 years before we even got married a little over a year ago, I've had a bunch of Christmas' now. He is the oldest of 4 boys and a couple... -

ARCHIVED Big Italian Christmas (aka... Big Gluten Christmas)
jkmunchkin replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks guys!! They all know my situation, but no matter how many questions they ask and how many times we explain to them what I can't have, cross contamination, etc. they just don't get it. Last year his grandma informed me the meatballs should be ok because she used just a tiny bit of breadcrumbs. And at Easter this past year after offering every desert... -
ARCHIVED Big Italian Christmas (aka... Big Gluten Christmas)
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
So my husband is Catholic and since I'm Jewish we obviously go to his family's for Christmas (actually makes the holidays really easy that way). We go to his grandma's for Christmas Eve, and it's the typical Italian Christmas of pasta, veal parmigiana, glazed ham, meatballs (with breadcrumbs), antii-past, etc., etc. I think it's possible that there may... -

ARCHIVED Follow Up Endoscopy (and While We're At A Colonoscopy)
jkmunchkin posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I go for my 1st follow up endoscopy on Wednesday. I've never had a colonoscopy done, and my doctor had said when I was first diagnosed that she would like to do one on me when I have my next endoscopy. I guess she actually wrote that on my chart because she didn't seem to forget. LOL!! Not so psyched about the prep for the colonoscopy, but oh well. I... -
