ARCHIVED Blood Test Came Back Positive, Now For The Biopsy
gatita replied to EmiPark210's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just had an endoscopy and colonoscopy and let me tell you, the endo was a piece of cake (so to speak)! You don't have to do any of that awful prep like for a colonoscopy. I feel your mom's pain but don't worry, the endo is nothing like that. -
ARCHIVED Thinking I Might Have Celiac
gatita replied to TracyFL's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some of the new research is saying only two weeks on gluten is needed for the challenge. We tried that in my case, thinking it was tolerable, but I only lasted 2 days before my doc called it off. He did the biopsy anyway. He said sometimes if you're still having symptoms they can still find damage (if they're really good at the lab) even after being gluten... -

gatita replied to PersianCeliac's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED Endoscopy - Affect On Symptoms
gatita replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I felt pretty wasted after my double 'scopes last week (endo- and colono-).... my guts were all squirrelly too. It's a week later today and I'm fine now. I think the pre-colonoscopy flush-out might have been a good thing for my SIBO. -
ARCHIVED Strangest - But Positive - Effects Of The gluten-free Diet?
gatita replied to ButterflyChaser's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My gums are wayyy healthier. I've noticed my eyelashes are longer too, but never thought about why! Funny... -
ARCHIVED Do Teeth Improve After Eliminating Gluten?
gatita replied to wartburg03's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I've have lots of cavities all my life, now I know why. I just noticed my gums are much healthier since going gluten-free, thanks for bringing this up!! -
Awww (((Bartfull))).... To the OP, I have been on the South Beach Diet's Phase 1 (which is pretty close to Paleo except you can have beans, which makes me happy and I am lucky that they agree with me). But other than that, the diet has no grains or sugars. I am doing it to lose weight and also to control my SIBO, which I believe is the result of my gluten...

ARCHIVED Here's My "i Glutened Myself Through Sheer Stupidity" Story...
gatita replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh man, what a sad story! And I've done the same thing too many times... Don't beat up on yourself for having a "normal" moment, you're going through enough misery! -
Oh poor thing! Been there, done that. I got glutened last week from a restaurant salad that must have CC'd me. The lesson is I still can't eat in restaurants without taking a big risk. You will get to the point where you read EVERY label and don't even think twice about it. My friends all know now to hand me the can or package before they feed me lol...

ARCHIVED Software To Diagnose Yourself
gatita replied to JohanJohan's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the tip.... although I don't think anyone here gets tired of endless questions .... Seems to me that's what we're all here for. As far as giving back, knowledge and experience aren't the only things that count. Sometimes just a "I feel your frustration!" is enough to make a person feel a little better. Anyway, I'm gonna check out that site... -
ARCHIVED Transportation Issues After Egd...ideas Needed
gatita replied to powerofpositivethinking's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How frustrating for you! I know my hospital won't let you take a taxi, which I think is ridiculous. I agree with the suggestions to ask the hospital/clinic staff.... -
ARCHIVED Off To Get My Endoscopy/colonoscopy!
gatita replied to gatita's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the well-wishes y'all! The only thing we know right away is I have gastritis, hiatal hernia, a polyp and diverticulosis... Now waiting for 3 biopsy results. -
ARCHIVED Off To Get My Endoscopy/colonoscopy!
gatita posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Wish me luck LOL... Getting the two-for-one double whammy this afternoon. I tell you, after eight months with severe D and then the colonoscopy prep (yickkk!), the procedure itself is gonna be a piece of cake I'm sure. Hopefully, we end up learning something since all tests so far have been negative or conflicting. Sigh. -
ARCHIVED White Bread Really Isn't "wheat", Right?
gatita replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Me, too! About the host, at my friend's wedding (Catholic) I had to forgo the host AND the wine because others who ate the host before me also drank from the chalice, and I knew I would get CC'd. -
ARCHIVED White Bread Really Isn't "wheat", Right?
gatita replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yikes... it's amazing! I guess a lot of people still say "wheat" when they mean "whole wheat." When I grew up in Philadelphia, "wheat bread" was the brownish kind (whole wheat) and "regular bread" was the white stuff! But then, we were 12 years old. Sounds like you may need to go do some teaching... -
ARCHIVED Do You Have To Have "specific" Celiac Genes?
gatita replied to freeme808's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They are indeed for profit. However: "For the purpose of gene testing, our gene testing partner, The American Red Cross,...." Etc. They do farm out the gene testing to the Red Cross. Anyway, I didn't mean to veer off topic.... -
Yeah, I'm learning more about SIBO on my own too -- as anyone can tell on these forums, I've been on an awareness-raising campaign about it LOL. My doc actually diagnosed me by my gurgles! He knew the specific sound. I was getting them from eating pretty much anything. I don't know yet if glutening will bring the SIBO bugs back, I sure hope not because...

ARCHIVED Do You Have To Have "specific" Celiac Genes?
gatita replied to freeme808's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I do trust Enterolab's gene test, however... it's done by the Red Cross, and not in question as far as I know. -
ARCHIVED Big Sur Bakery -- Unbelievable (Bad) Attitude
gatita replied to gatita's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Good points. For the record, my friend is a new friend and she doesn't know about my gluten intolerance and my wheat allergy -- yet! -
ARCHIVED Long Time Celiac; Symptoms Resurfacing
gatita replied to buffettbride's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I vote for SIBO. Research is showing it's very common among celiacs, and has almost identical GI symptoms. I'm being treated for it as we speak. -
My sister in law, who had severe MS, tried bee sting therapy on her legs, but alas it did not help at all and was quite painful. I can't consider it because after I got stung once by a bee swarm (19 stings total!) I'm now highly allergic. My personal feeling is don't mess with bees. As you say, it's called venom for a reason. There's no scientific...

ARCHIVED Cracks/sores At Corners Of Mouth
gatita replied to JaneWhoLovesRain's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yep, I had them in college and again now when gluten-free. In me they are a clear sign of vitamin B6 deficiency, riboflavin. I take a high-dose B complex and they are gone in a few days. EDIT: I sit corrected LOL... I mean B2, not B6.... -
My massive gurgles and bloating were due to SIBO, according to my GI. I did a round of antibiotics followed by probiotics and the gurgles pretty much went away. Except I just got accidentally glutened, so now everything's back.

ARCHIVED Funny Problem..just Venting

I keep dreaming I've done that, but it hasn't happened in real life yet! I always wake up relieved. -
ARCHIVED Big Sur Bakery -- Unbelievable (Bad) Attitude
gatita replied to gatita's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
kareng, that's what I thought! Kind of like accusing a disabled person of faking it... Well, I just got this response: you are most certainly welcome and wanted. we are happy to work with people withj true dietary needs, and in fact most of our menus are extremely celiac-friendly. due to the fact that we create our menu items from scratch, our...
