ARCHIVED Made In Facility That Manufactures Wheat Products?
2Boys4Me replied to amberleigh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've always felt "made in a facility" to be all right, but avoid "may contain traces". I'm not sure if may contain traces means made on a shared line or if made in a facility means separate lines. I don't think a shared facility REQUIRES a may contains disclaimer, but I'm not sure. All I know is the US has different labelling laws than Canada. -
Susie, I'm so sorry for your loss.

ARCHIVED Made In Facility That Manufactures Wheat Products?
2Boys4Me replied to amberleigh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How do you guys know if it's produced on the same line? Does it say on the label or have you phoned the company to ask? Just wondering if the US FALCPA requires that. I'm in Canada where we have no such thing as FALCPA. I've never seen anything like that on a label and when I phone to ask about whether something is gluten free they've rarely mentioned... -
ARCHIVED What's Your Color?
2Boys4Me replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You are deepskyblue Your dominant hues are cyan and blue. You like people and enjoy making friends. You're conservative and like to make sure things make sense before you step into them, especially in relationships. You are curious but respected for your opinions by people who you sometimes wouldn't even suspect. Your saturation level is very high ... -
ARCHIVED Bento Box Saves School Lunch! Onigiri Rocks!
2Boys4Me replied to zarfkitty's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
These all look fabulous, but how time consuming is it? I HATE cooking/baking, etc. and of course I'm in charge of it here. I do bake a lot and it's edible, but the less time I can spend on lunch, etc. the better. Add to that two very "selective" eaters. If it takes more than 5 minutes I'm not sure I can get on board. Dad makes school lunches on M/W/F and... -
ARCHIVED Do My Other Daughters Need To Be Tested?
2Boys4Me replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes. It's customary to have all first degree relatives tested upon diagnosis of celiac. The only one in our family who is celiac didn't appear to have any symptoms. He was anemic and that ultimately led to his diagnosis. -

ARCHIVED Can I Take gluten-free Bread Into Canada?
2Boys4Me replied to Roger K's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I'll email my sister who works for Canadian Border Services and ask her. Meanwhile, my thought is if it's in your checked luggage as you arrive from UK it shouldn't be a problem. I agree that it's usually fresh fruit/veg/honey that can't come across borders. We travelled to the US last winter and the guy asked if we had any food and we said yes, told him... -
ARCHIVED Call Out To The Canadian Girls
2Boys4Me replied to L.A.'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm 90% sure Garnier Fructis is gluten-free. My son uses Loreal Kids but my Mom who doesn't have celiac disease or DH had a really itchy scalp until she switched to Garnier. I'm pretty sure she checked it out as gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Anybody Ever Made A Gluten Free, Egg Free Birthday Cake?
2Boys4Me replied to NewGFMom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This gluten-free Wacky cake is pretty good. I use the Carol Fenster sorghum/corn flour blend and it doesn't taste gritty at all. Can't remember how long to cook for cupcakes, though. Wacky Cake Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups Bette Hagman flour mixture or acceptable gluten free flour mixture 1 1/2 tsp xanthan gum 1 cup sugar 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa 1 tsp... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Hot Dog Buns
2Boys4Me replied to JennyC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought the Kinnikinnick ones for Ty last summer. He ate a couple and then wouldn't eat them anymore. I couldn't blame him. I never tried to eat one, I couldn't get past the stench! Those things smell TERRIBLE! Colleen, do you think you could PM me the recipe from your link? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Please Recommend Kid-friendly Nutritious gluten-free Cereal
2Boys4Me replied to JennyC's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We usually have some Nature's Path Honey'd Corn Flakes and Kinnikrisp "rice krispies" on hand. Ty really likes the rice krispies, but I think they have a weird aftertaste. The last few months he's been starting the day with Lorka's flax bread. (No idea how nutritious they are though.) I think there's only get one mainstream gluten-free cereal in my neck... -
Oddly enough, Ty has been on this "bad guy" kick lately. What if a bad guy came into our house, etc. One time he said, "What if I grow up to be a bad guy?" I told him he wasn't allowed and that they didn't serve gluten-free food in jail. However my sister, who has been working with "bad guys" a long time - including at a medium security prison, says they...

ARCHIVED School Lunches
2Boys4Me replied to mama2two's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I still can't believe Americans can take peanut butter to school . Our school "discourages" peanuts. If there are not epi-pen peanut allergic kids in a class then students can take peanut butter but are supposed to wash hands really well afterward, and their desks also. The kids eat at their desks in the classroom and sometimes if it's a split class, say... -
ARCHIVED Malt
2Boys4Me replied to Babygirl6915's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Blech! You can't make rice krispie squares from puffed rice...but you CAN replace the puffed wheat with puffed rice for puffed rice squares. They are good and chocolately. -
ARCHIVED Cant Bring My Food / Was This Almost Discrimination?
2Boys4Me replied to abigail's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Good point made in italics above. A couple of times we have been in a situation where there was a party for the hockey team, or a birthday party or whatever and it was taking place at a pizza place. The first time, with the hockey team, I called the manager of the Boston Pizza, explained that we were part of a large group coming in on whatever date, my son... -
ARCHIVED Flour Master List
2Boys4Me replied to queenofhearts's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I haven't seen the original poster on here for quite a while. If you go here: Open Original Shared Link you'll find some flour blends. There are a couple w/o rice, but they have corn. I think corn can be replaced with arrowroot. I can't remember. -
ARCHIVED Hey Canadians! I Made Nanaimo Bars!
2Boys4Me replied to EVERYBODY'SAUNTIE's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't eat Nanaimo bars, but I went to a few when I was 19! We are heading to Nanaimo at the end of July for 10 days. I have to try to figure out how to pack bread, hamburger/hot dog buns, suspicious white powder (potato starch & xanthan), Kinnikrisp rice krispies and cornflakes in a suitcase w/o destroying them. Tupperware, I guess. I know I can... -

ARCHIVED This Just Bothers Me That I Wanted To Share It
2Boys4Me replied to blueeyedmanda's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We ran this story on our 5:30 news on Wednesday. I can't remember the affiliate (ABC, CBS, etc.) but the story was very wierd in that the first 4 clips were "streeters" talking about how they've had nothing but good experiences at that hospital. I was horrified when the 911 operator seemed not to understand that the callers were not calling to complain... -

But air is free...and delicious! (Unless you're in Toronto) All kidding aside, I am very sorry that Janet is being so inconsiderate, but I suppose it was expected. I am very happy that you will be providing your grandchildren and yourself a safe option for the rehearsal dinner. If anything, Janet may end up embarrassed when her fiance's family asks why...

ARCHIVED Oats?
2Boys4Me replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was going to try the Cream Hills Estates oats as well, just so my non-gluten-free son could have some oatmeal cookies. I do all my baking gluten-free and just discovered these at my HFS. It is a Quebec company. There is also a company in Regina who is in cahoots (or should I say cah-oats ) with Shelly Case. They are called Only Oats. -
ARCHIVED Charcoal Made With Wheat/ Cooking On An Outdoor Grill.
2Boys4Me replied to rlemmon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't understand how charcoal could even be an issue. Is it because the ashes stick to the food? We have a propane barbecue and use it almost every day in the summer, you can't beat the convenience. Until the propane runs out. -
ARCHIVED For All Nesquik Lovers. . .
2Boys4Me replied to ptkds's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I agree. I'll buy stuff that's made in a facility with wheat products, but if it says "may contain" I stay away.
