  1. Congratulations! Your antibodies are going down (I am sure you have figured that out). I am sure you would like to see them a bit lower, but based on the lab range you seem to be complying with the gluten-free diet. What does your doctor say? For some people it can take a long time to reduce antibodies even while being on a strictly gluten-free diet...
  2. I am sitting in my gluten-free front porch on a late summer evening with my faithful black lab at my feet pondering about how I will respond to your posting. Life is good. It is not easy and it never has been, but now I feel like my old self. I can handle so much more physically and emotionally. I have been gluten free for over two years. Most of my...
  3. I would ask for celiac biopsies! If the doctor is going in for a look, it would not hurt! Also there are other things that can damage villi. Just a visual usually does not identify damaged villi, so insist on a biopsy (ies). If your villi was damaged as a result of celiac disease, you might not have healed yet. Not sure if it is because of the high...
  4. Here is an article that states that some patients without a gallbladder can have constipation. It is not the norm, but possible. Seems like you would have had issues prior to this week though. Open Original Shared Link You can still develop gallstones, bile duct issues, etc even after gallbladder surgery. My Aunt needed a stent to keep her bile...
  5. There are a few ingredients in those two products that I reacted to when I was first diagnosed: xanthan gum, garlic, and onions. I still can not tolerate garlic or onions even after being gluten free for two years. I would suspect that you could be intolerant to Xylitol too. Just something to think about. Consider making your own dressings from scratch...
  6. What? I tested barely positive on just my DGP IGA and the rest of the full panel was negative. I was not IGA deficient. My biopsy revealed a Marsh Stage IIIB (moderate to severe damage). Her older sister has celiac disease, she is IGA deficient, and yet your doctor wants to wait for more damage to occur? I would get a second opinion.
  7. My New GP says she has two celiac disease diagnosed patients who refuse to comply with the gluten-free diet. I can not imagine that!
  8. I was diagnosed as a celiac two years ago but my husband was not. He has been gluten free for 14 years per the poor advice of my allergist and his GP. He refuses to do a gluten challenge and I can not blame him. It just makes it easier to say we are both celiac.
  9. Maybe new intolerances? Colleen is right that our bodies change as we age. (We eat Miracle Whip all the time, so no worries there!) Recently, a member pointed out that even though a med might be gluten free, if the pharmacy is sorting and counting pills there is a chance for cross contamination. I take Zantac (Costco brand) occassionally for allergy...
  10. I would never recommend for someone to go gluten free without first getting tested for celiac disease. If the tests are negative and the person wants to try the gluten-free diet to see if it eliminates their symptoms, then fine. The gluten-free diet is a huge commitment not only to food changes but lifestyle changes as well. I can see why your friends...
  11. Congratulations! That is thrilling news!
  12. I am sorry that he is feeling unwell! It could be either. Not what you wanted to hear. We tend to forget that we pick up "bugs" and not everything is related to celiac disease.
  13. You could ask for the gentic test. It would help you rule out celiac disease. I think you just have to bite the bullet and go gluten free as a long-term test. Can it be done? Sure. My husband has been gluten-free for 14 years now. He went gluten-free per the advice of my allergist and his GP. There was a steep learning curve, but he found that...
  14. Thanks! Your posting is bound to help others. I am too far away to try it, but you never know when I'll go to MA!
  15. That is a shame! I have cruised on just Royal Carribean a few times since my diagnosis. I am sorry that you had a poor experience on Holland America. Like you, I notified the cruise line well in advance. On the very first day, I contacted one of the head waiters in the buffet room (only restaurant open while the ship was being boarded). They obtained...
  16. I was just barely positive on my blood test, yet my biopsy revealed moderate to severe intestinal damage. Plus, my only symptom at the time was anemia! No tummy issues. The next step is usually an endoscopy, but some skip this step because of long wait times. So, keep eating gluten until you are sure all testing is complete. I am just two years...
  17. I can not recall, but has RA been ruled out? You seem so young for OA!
  18. This is off topic, but I put a little "angry" face on one of my replies and I do not see it. I think it is an iPad issue. I guess I have to keep track of what device I am on. Otherwise, my posting does not make sense!
  19. Yeah, I hear you!
  20. I have used Armour Thyroid for 18 years. I have never used anything else. My thyroid has wacked out over the years (hyper to hypo swings), so just taking hormone replacement does not insure that you will never have a flare-up.
  21. We like those squeeze bags of organic applesauce! Dehydrated fruit is good. Plain nuts if they can be tolerated. We eat a lot of cheese sticks. I am always offering them. It is kind of a running joke in our family, "Want a cheese stick?" Need a little cooler for those.
  22. Steph! You are so clever! I buy in bulk, so I typically get the original bottle. Will be sure to try to remember this when I am at the pharmacy.
