  1. Nini--what a sweet story . I'm so happy that she felt 'normal' and you all should be so proud that it all happened the way it did. I'm sure your daughter will remember the Father/Daughter Dance for the rest of her life.
  2. I have a gluten-free list from McNeil dated January 10, 2006--I'll list just the cold medications, as there are others: Tylenol Allergy Sinus Caplets (original) Tylenol Sinus Day Caplets Tylenol Sinus Severe Congestion Tylenol Cold Severe Congestion Caplets Tylenol Severe Cold and Flu Liquid Tylenol Cold Day Non Drowsy Caplet Simply Stuffy Liquid...
  3. Thanks again, Claire--that was so informative and is one that I'm going to print out for reference
  4. I don't have experience with that product, but ConAgra will clearly list any gluten ingredients. I spoke with them last fall when asking about Butterball products.
  5. Lemonade--the sensations you describe are common symptoms of Celiac. I had them very pronounced before going gluten-free, and still get them but not as bad. I had the tingling and numbness in my face, left arm, and both legs and feet, and it was worse when laying down. Now, it's mostly just in my face, unless I get a gluten reaction. Give it some more...
  6. Some flavored or herbal teas do contain gluten--another thing to consider is that caffeine is very irritating to our systems as we are healing. I have found that I don't do well with tea anymore--I'll probably try it again but not for at least 6 months.
  7. I came across an article on the subject that I thought was good. Open Original Shared Link
  8. Yes--I get stomach pain now when I have a gluten reaction. It's an actual pain right across the stomach area. Now, I can tell if it's gluten if I get the pain. Before being gluten-free, I had cramping and nausea, but not the pain. Now, I get all 3
  9. For about the last 2 years that I was eating gluten, I would often wake up with headaches that would seem to come from the base of my skull. It would hurt from the back of my neck on up. I quickly noticed that those headaches came at the same time as my stomach acting up worse than usual. The strange thing was that the headache felt better when I got up...
  10. I did have a problem with Dove Sensitive Skin Bar and their Bodywash. I had called the company and was told there was no gluten in those products--but, they can't be guaranteed gluten-free because other products are made on the same lines in the same facility. I actually got GI symptoms as well as itchy, burning skin (no rash or redness).
  11. So very happy to hear your kids are doing well
  12. I'm one of the 'puffs up bigger as the day goes on' people! I get tons of trapped gas in my upper abdominal area that can shoot upwards and cause pressure at the base of my throat. My GI told me to take Phayzame--and it does help! The softgels are gluten-free. The quick disolve tablets are NOT.
  13. Since I'm intolerant to rice, I like Lay's Natural Potato Chips--the Ruffles or the Sea Salted Thick Cut.
  14. Vincent is right about the flour getting into the air and contaminating every surface it falls on. This is just my opinion, but if I had to use flour, I would use a mask or even a bandana or something to keep the dust from being inhaled.
  15. At CVS, the pharmacy prints the manufacturer's name on the label--at least the one near me does. It's in tiny print right under the drug name. In any case, the pharmacy should at least be able to give you the name of the drug manufacturer--then all you have to do is call. Recently, my GP was going to give me some samples she had for a BP drug--before I...
  16. Looks like you did your Celiac homework! Just be aware that we all heal at different rates and often symptoms go away initally, but come back. There are ups and downs, and sometimes other intolerances crop up that make it even more confusing. This is not meant to depress you or anything, but I wish I had been informed of these things when I was first diagnosed...
  17. That is terrible--I've said this before, but I think some of these doctors are trying not to diagnose Celiac. Why? That's the part I don't understand.
  18. The iron suppliments were very hard on me too, and I couldn't stand taking them. I actually just took a Centrum (it has MDR of iron) instead--the gluten-free diet worked wonders for my anemia. I noticed that you've been gluten-free just a short time--hopefully after a few months you will get similar results Still a good idea to get checked out, though...
  19. Its common for Celiacs to have other food intolerances like soy and dairy--although not everyone is affected that way. I react to soy with cramping, gas and D. I avoid it like the plague! I do not believe that it does any damage to the villi, though.
  20. I have used both potato starch and corn starch and both work fine. With the potato starch, you don't need as much.
  21. Actually, when my son had an infection in his foot, the podiatrist told us to give him yogurt with his antibiotics--and you're right, they all should do that.
  22. Yes--you need to look at any and all medications that she will be taking. If the pharmacy can't tell you, you can ask who the manufacturer of the drug is, and call them yourself. I have done this several times. All the companies I contacted were very helpful. Also, you can check out www.glutenfreedrugs.com. But if you are not sure, or in the case of...
  23. She dosen't have to worry about gluten, right? Then it should be fine. Hope she feels better soon!
  24. Susie--Me again --I have read that low blood pressure is associated with Celiac--although I have the opposite problem. I would suggest that you have your blood tested for Anemia. I was severly anemic--my red blood cell count went from 12 to 8.5 in two months time. I was lightheaded a lot--and actually fainted a couple of times. I was also more tired...
