  1. Yes, it really could even less than that can cause a reaction if you're sensitive. That's why we are always concerned with cross contamination. Many of us have far worse reactions now that we're gluten-free than before, and it takes much less gluten to do it. I personally have reacted to most (but not all) products made in a shared facility with wheat...
  2. What a great idea for a thread! Can't think of anything right now--it's late in the day , but I'll be interested to see what everyone contributes.
  3. Wow--looks like you're in good hands!
  4. Boy, that sounds good! Will have to try it all
  5. That would have served him right
  6. OMG Bev--it's a good thing I wasn't drinking anything as I read that--I'd be wiping down my monitor . This is such a classy disease!
  7. Yes, It's very normal in the beginning to feel sick and not really know why. You are healing and at the same time, trying to figure out what to eat/not eat and the same goes for products that you may be using. I know it can be difficult and a bit depressing at times, but you just need to keep gluten-free, and be good to yourself. Get as much rest as you...
  8. Linda--I live in northwest Burlington County. Our weather sure took a cold turn-huh? I love Pilates--I have a Premier XP machine here at home. It really does help with stiffness, and is such a gentle workout. I like to garden, too--we don't have a big yard but I have a raised perinneal bed in the front that I'm proud of. I have to do any outside work...
  9. Good luck with the dietitian tonight--hope you get some answers and a "game plan". Let me know how it went
  10. Yes--I have many more intolerances since going gluten-free 8 months ago. I believe I am intolerant of all grains--this is the second time I have tried cutting them out, and each time, I feel better. I have an appt. with an allergist on Friday--I'm goint to start there. On the phone the nurse told me they test for food allergies. I explained that I have...
  11. When I get a gluten reaction, I get an achy pain in my back (where you describe) and also in my upper arms and thighs. The type of aches you might get with the flu. This lasts only a day or two.
  12. Hi Dani--I'm having the same type of issues. Lots of upper abdominal gas that just won't budge--belching, chest pressure, etc. My GI told me to use Phazyme and it helps, but only a bit and not for very long. I find using a digestive enzyme as I begin to eat a meal helps more. I've been using the Whole Foods brand--gluten-free right on the label and not...
  13. I don't have one, but did you do a search? I remember around the holidays--Thanksgiving especially, there were cornbread stuffing recipes posted.
  14. Ha--I was just thinking the same thing! Right after I thought--m-m, when I get back to the store, I have got to check the Cocoa Puffs
  15. I used to bruse extremely easily. I always had bruses on my arms--sometimes from just resting them on the table while eating! I was also very anemic. I noticed when the anemia finally resolved, the bruising stopped. I would suggest, if you haven't already, getting checked for it. I also take a Centrum every day--it has a bit of iron and also vitamin...
  16. I tried them both early on--they were the first gluten-free bread I found. The white was terrible--even toasted. The Rice Pecan was ok toasted, but I never bought it again. Another thing was that I kept them in the freezer and it was impossible to get the slices apart. Sorry to anyone who likes it That was pretty rude of me to not even suggest an...
  17. Susan--So glad you got through the day ok. I was actually thinking about you this AM--after reading your post yesterday, I thought that was my worst nightmere come true! Probably the reason I'm still at home after leaving my job at the end of 03. Also--I always keep Immodium in my wallet, just in case
  18. Hi Linda--welcome Where in NJ are you from? I also had a lot of neck and shoulder pain. It was much worse in the morning--easing up only after a shower. It is much improved after being gluten-free. Before, no pain relievers would help and accupuncture also failed to ease it. I also have the same thing in my hips. The knee pain is different...
  19. I take Claritan and Flonase as needed.
  20. Sounds like the perfect winter weekend
  21. The best in my opinion is The Gluten Free Pantry Cake and Cookie Mix. I think it tastes better than conventional white cake mixes. Happy birthday to your dad
  22. I just started reading it this weekend. Looks good so far...
  23. I agree with the others about Living Without--I get it at Whole Foods, but I will probably be subscribing to it. For books, I would recommend Wheat free Worry free--a great book for someone new to gluten-free, and Dangerous Grains is a must-read for us and everyone in my opinion. I have just begun to read Dr. Green's new book--Celiac Disease-A Hidden Epidemic...
  24. Cheri and everybody--I got a response from Beth Cherico at Amanda's Own--she said that their products are gluten, dairy, nut, tree nut, and egg free.
  25. B--totally my own opinion, but if it were me with the nausea and vomiting, and I knew that I had gall stones, I would opt for the surgery. I consider myself a cautious person, and surgery is never something to be entered into lightly. My Dad had his gall bladder removed last year--he's 79 and was home the next day. And doing great, I must say. I would...
