  1. Thanks Betty--good to see that both kinds of hash browns are safe. I usually make my own because my husband likes them better, but the frozen are easier once in a while. PS--I finally got an e-mail back from Lactaid--their Fast-acting Chewable Caplets are gluten-free.
  2. Hi--I'm sorry that I can't help you with the blood test results--I never had those--only the biopsy. I do want to say that the gluten-free diet is far from impossible. If you've been reading here for a while, I'm sure you have seen the wonderful things it can do for people with gluten intolerance--literally save our lives. There are lots of naturally gluten...
  3. Yea--where those parents are concerned, gluten aside, why would they take a child to eat somewhere over and over, all the while suspecting that it was making them sick? I just don't get that. And given the fact that the child is a Celiac, it's all the more ridiculous.
  4. John, I'm so sorry for all you've had to go through. You say that your blood tests indicate Celiac--are you on the gluten-free diet yet? You should be completely gluten-free, including food, personal care products, meds, etc. What are you eating now? That would be helpful to know. When I was at my sickest, I ate Cream of Rice hot cereal. Bananas are...
  5. Absolutely agree on both points. I was just saying that I didn't understand how the gluten was removed. I'm going to go back and read--again--what the Dr. from Nebraska said. Won't be the first time I missed something
  6. Lynne--I agree with you. I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but we were never told how the gluten present in the oil is removed. We were just told that it was eliminated. The experts have assured us that the finished product is free of gluten, but I still don't understand how. I haven't said too much on the subject because I know next to nothing...
  7. OMG--that was too funny . It reminds me of when my husband and I are grocery shopping together and in the natural baking isle, there's always those packages of Vital Wheat Gluten. We have joked about how much damage that bag could do! As if it could jump off the shelf, hold me down and make me eat it And you're right--where else could you tell a story...
  8. Ah--your post made me smile . I have been having the same reaction in stores, lately. Mine are because I am becoming sensitive to so many other things besides gluten, that all of the newfound variety is great, but I end up buying the same meats, produce, and a few other things. Luckily, I like those things and despite the sensitivites, I do eat very well...
  9. Bridgette--I'm so glad that the gluten-free diet is such a help to you--what a story! I will keep you in my thoughts--best of luck--I've got my fingers crossed for you . Welcome in, by the way!
  10. I've heard that Loreal is vague when it comes to ingredients--I did call them once to check on the Feria haircolor that I use, and they told me that it contained no gluten ingredients. (Being old and vain, too, I needed to know ) For makeup, I use Bare Escentuals. Most all of their makeup line is gluten-free. Their skincare line, however, is not. I...
  11. Yes--it can make you just as sick--the autoimmune response happens no matter what the source of the gluten is. In another words, your immune system dosen't care whether it's a crumb of bread or lotion residue on a finger that gets into your mouth. Unfortunately, the result is the same . After you get rid of the topical products that contain gluten, you...
  12. I tossed out the old plastics that had scratches and also bought some Gladware in various sizes. We wash them over and over in the dishwasher, and they're still fine. Also, we have a grocery store - Shoprite--that has their own brand of reusable plasticware that is even a better deal. Maybe your local chain has something similar?
  13. Hi Stef--The problem with lotions, etc. are that they can easily get into your mouth. When I was gluten-free only a short time, I found I was still getting D every afternoon. I went through all of my personal care products, and found wheat in my hair gel.
  14. Jen--Best of luck with everything tomorrow!
  15. Ya never know Nini--you may have isolated Celiac symptom # 201
  16. I saw the show your mom was talking about. It was Mystery Diagnosis. In it, they had a little boy who had seizure-like episodes when he was a baby--he would kind of zone out--the mom or dad had to say something directly in his face to bring him out of it. His doctors couldn't find anything wrong--the mom had Celiac and she was the one who thought there...
  17. I used to get them often, pre gluten-free. They usually showed up when I was 'sick'. Now, I only get them if I drink a lot of grape juice.
  18. I'm so sorry that happened to you--the only weird one here is that doctor . I believe that a positive dx. of DH means Celiac. As for being overweight and Celiac, I was, and still am, about 20 lbs. over my ideal weight. Right before my dx. I did lose 15 lbs., but by then everything I was eating went right through me. After only 4 weeks on the gluten-free...
  19. When I was telling my husband about all of this McD's stuff, he suggested we could be witnesses for the lawyers in a class action suit.
  20. HaHa--you said it! I had forgotten what 'normal' even was after being sick for 20 years. Now, barring a reaction, I think I finally know what normal is and I'm pretty darn proud of the ol' bathroom creations, myself
  21. Lynne--That sounds great! So happy you found someone so prepared and knowledgeable about Celiac. Way to go
  22. I have a separate butter (actually smart Balance) container than the rest of the family. It's so easy to 'double dip' when you're not thinking about it. The same goes for any condiment you have. One solution is to use the squeeze type whenever possible. Another thing is wooden cutting boards and utensils. I would always prepare my food on a clean plate...
  23. That was just one in a long list of misdiagnoses--at least that one didn't cause any lasting problems
  24. I must be in the minority because, as I stated in an earlier post, I had very few side effects from Metronidazole. Other than the metalic taste, I don't remember feeling bad at all. This was about 15 years ago, and I took it for a female problem. I also used Metrogel (topical) for what the doctor thought was roscesia--that didn't work, because it turned...
  25. I had the orange stuff, too, when I was the sickest before my diagnosis. I did not take any medication--just the gluten-free diet. The D subsided, and even when I get it now, the orange never came back. Could I have an infection still that I wouldn't know about? All of this has me thinking...
