  1. enniss_tx, This is a follow up post. I just responded to another post about how taking betainehcl can help stomach function and when reading over the research (though I knew this) but couldn't quite pen it down at the time that the Beets you used can explain the issues you where having when you added beets. see this article about recidification...
  2. jm34, Sorry you are still suffering. Taking either Niacinamide or Slow - Niaicn (IHN) should not make you flush. You would have to take Niacin at extremely high dosages (Usually only obtained by prescription) to overdose on Niacin. Like greater than 3 gram day. Putting some on cornflakes only once would not do it. It is water soluble vitamin...
  3. Razzle5150, You might be interested in this new research discussing this very topic if you (they/your doctor's) are sure it is DH. (sad they (the doctor's) don't know this) but DH is as Gemini said is the Skin Manifestation of Celiac disease. That said read this new research as reported by Jefferson Adams. https://www.celiac.com/articles...
  4. Weekend Warrior, There are other threads on celiac.com that talks about the issue of people having reactions to Corn. It can happen thought the awareness of this fact is generally poor. Search for the thread "what does borderline test mean" If you can't read the whole thread then go down and read the post by awol cast iron stomach linked...
  5. Why and How Pellagra is (often) Confused with Celiac Disease and/or Digestive Problems ; The Science of Pellagra a Hidden Epidemic in the 21st Century presenting/revealing as Celiac Disease. When I was gluten intolerant following a Gluten Free diet religiously and newly diagnosed as a Celiac I began studying to see if there was a “cure” for this dis...
  6. lumalist, It is possible to check by blood work too. Sometimes both are performed to confirm the other. It a (Niacin deficiency) is usually performed as part of a B Vitamin Complex test where multiple B-Vitamins are tested in one blood sample. These B-Vitamins are not part of your typical blood panel and will have to be requested to be checked...
  7. lumalist, It is not common (considered rare) because mainly there is not a lot of studies about this topic but I want to thank Knitty Kitty for these references. But it is really more about awareness. AWOL Cast Iron stomach talks about here their reaction to corn. Follow this thread "that darn corn" Here is the link as quoted from PedMed...
  8. lumalist, I am not good with the tests. I am surprise though that you are considered borderline after 4 to 5 years gluten free. People are usually considered refractory after no improvements seen after 2 years gluten free. It is possible something else is causing your rash and GI problems as kareng wisely notes then you might consider Pellagra...
  9. This Itchy Skin Has to Stop, I see this is an old thread but I didn't see where any body mentioned Niacin. I had a friend who had an histamine allergy and taking Niacin helped. Usually 250mg is enough to cause mild flushing/hive like reaction. Niacin taken with food moderates flushing. Usually your histamine stores become depleted in...
  10. Monkey0111, If it is brain fog and memory issues you need to check out this thread. Be sure to review any medicines you might be taking too that might be contributing to the brain fog. Years ago I took Statins at the recommendations of my doctor's and I knew within two months that they were affecting my memory. My brain fog has since...
  11. Awol cast iron stomach, This research was reported in another thread by Knitty Kitty. It might help explain why you are reacting to corn. Open Original Shared Link Abstract on How "Maize prolamins resistant to peptic-tryptic digestion maintain immune-recognition by IgA from some celiac disease patients." Now what to do about it is...
  12. Monkey0111, Most Ciders are gluten free by their very nature. I googled angry orchard cider and several gluten free reviewers gave it a thumbs up and that was way back in 2012 when it was first introduced in the market. No one seemed to have a reaction to it then so I would say unless they have malt in their ingredient list it should be safe. ...
  13. Jherm21, If you are taking Statins be aware they can cause memory problems. I have not had real memory issues since stopping statins. And that is about the time I started taking Niacin now that I think of it. It might just be incidental but now that I think of it I don't believe it was. That said I wanted to share some great links about confusion...
  14. Kurasz, GFinDC is right it could be anything. If you think it heavy metal poisoning they typically include a neurologic condition like tingling in the fingers causing you to be diagnosed as MS for example or hearing or vision problems etc. See the mercymom who was poisoned after having silver fillings put in her dental work which are 50% mercury...
  15. Jm34, This is to your OP. It sounds like you have low stomach acid to me. We become low in a host of vitamin/minerals because your/our stomach acid is not strong enough to extract our nutrients. see this thread where I talk about why strong stomach acid is important. As to your Potassium problem/deficiency. This too can be explained...
  16. Fbmb, things can be common but still not normal. It is common among celiacs for their stool to float. . . . but like your husband said they shouldn't float. It is a sign you are passing excess nutrients through to your colon. when this happens the anaerobic bacteria in the colon have a field day producing excess gas (co2 i think) lifting...
  17. RoseanneL and vijackie, you may have been/be low in stomach acid. see this link that explains the importance of stomach acid. Open Original Shared Link many of the same symptom's a celiac develops can be explained by no or too little stomach acid. True heartburn occurs between meals. If your stomach acid is too low already then eating...
  18. Liza22, see this thread so I don't have retype everything. Another poster asked about how to restore energy after a Celiac diagnosis. Magnesium Citrate can help with the energy you are missing. The other posters advice is solid too. It could be your thyroid and your iron levels. The problem with Celiac's we often get low in many...
  19. cristina, Eat to your meter is great advice from cyclinglady. I have controlled my prediabetes for 5 years that way. It has not been over 6.5 A1c in over 5 years and most times it is in the low 6's or or even under (5.9 is considered normal). Before then it was over 8.5 at one point and the doctor's just wanted to give me more medicine. Now...
  20. casuallythere, Thank you for your ideas. As far as whether you have NCGS or Celiac disease one word - time is all that is needed to explain your test results. Or maybe better said you may not have Celiac YET but in time if you keep eating gluten you will if it continues to be undigested in the stomach and reaches the villi in your small intestine...
  21. Badcontrakt, This topic comes up often on this board. I had to search for it on another thread but I pointed this out to another poster. Lysine will help canker sores. I used it very successfully even before I was gluten free and it still worked. Now like others mentioned I rarely get them (sores) today but if I do Lysine is at the...
  22. leavesfall, You might want to post in the DH section. It is not uncommon for people to have Histimine reaction (rash) after being gluten free for a while. See this thread it is a little long but you will learn a lot. And this thread where Knitty Kitty says Niacin can help with the itching if it is DH. DH stands for dermatitis herpetiformis...
  23. jacobDO77, Is this a question or a comment. posterboy,
  24. Celiac.com 01/17/2017 - A diagnosis of pellagra will likely have many other disease presentations, not limited to acne, rosacea (dermatitis) skin rashes, depression, anxiety, dementia, etc., as well. Seventy-five or more years ago the...
  25. ironictruth, I don't know if this will help or not. You don't want to rely on Dr. Google for too much in way of a diagnosis but your specific symptom's of specifically mentioning the right side indicates it might related to your gall bladder. See this thread. Open Original Shared Link Also see this thread that talks about gall bladder...
