ARCHIVED How Do You Know You Are gluten-free?
beth01 replied to SMRI's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had the same problem SMRI, I felt good off the bat and then bam, back to square one. I am just a week shy of six months. I still have more bad days than good, and I am 100% gluten free both at home and out and about, I gave up trying to eat outside of my home. I only eat whole foods. It just takes our bodies a long time to get over gluten. My big whoops... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test -- Dr Didn't Specify The Celiac Panel :(
beth01 replied to CanadianK's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Most labs keep blood that they have run testing on for at least a few days. Some tests like complete blood counts, the vial of blood is only good for 24 hours, but tests that use serum or plasma, it can be good for up to 7 days to still have testing done on it if it is refrigerated or up to a month if frozen. It's all in how the lab processes the original... -
ARCHIVED Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough---gluten-free!
beth01 replied to SMRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I didn't like the after taste of the pizza crust. Still haven't tried the cookie dough yet, they don't carry it here. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Since 2010 And Still Suffering.
beth01 replied to Celiacsuffer09's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For other food intolerances, you are going to have to keep a food diary. Write down everything you eat and drink and your symptoms when you get them so you can pinpoint the problem foods. Soy makes me feel like gluten does, cut out the soy milk and try an almond milk. Most likely the pharmacy isn't going to tell you about each an every med, you usually have... -
ARCHIVED Worth A Blood Test?
beth01 replied to wifesurfeit's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wouldn't do the tests. The pathology is positive, he has a diagnosis. How long has he been gluten free, a week? He could probably have them drawn now and not have to go back on gluten so you have them for comparison later, but it really isn't necessary. -
ARCHIVED Update, Sad
beth01 replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This is a clear violation of the ADA. If it was me, I would bring this up with the principal and the administration. If they aren't made aware, it will happen again. This is a situation where the offending personal should be terminated. I am not saying sue them, but I wouldn't let them get away with it either. I am sorry you had to go through this, but it... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative, But Still Sick
beth01 replied to BigGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would definitely have them check your gallbladder. Also ask if they did a total IgA. If you are deficient in IgA, it makes the IgA based testing inaccurate. Also ask about having EMA testing done ( endomysial). If none of your testing comes back pointing to celiac, you can awlays cut gluten out of your diet to check for improvement. There are a few people... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Negative, But Still Sick
beth01 replied to BigGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum. Do you still have your gallbladder? That can cause a lot of issues that mimic celiac. That would be worth checking into. I would also ask for a copy of your lab results before your appointment on Friday. If you can't get a paper copy, ask for the test and the results with normal ranges and write them down so you can post them here. That... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Or Not?
beth01 replied to BrandySimms's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Luckily I was diagnosed through a scope and blood work so when my daughter came up positive on her blood work, she didn't have to have the endoscopy. If the doctor would have suggested it, I would have. It is invasive and there are risks, though they are very small, but it really is a necessity in your situation. If it was my child I wouldn't hesitate. Children... -
ARCHIVED Annoyed - "modern Bread Rising Methods Cause Gluten Issues"
beth01 replied to JodyM75's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
According to my endo ( but he is a doctor so who knows how right he is ) pregnancy causes a lot of chemistry changes in the body leaving women more prone to autoimmune issues. Shortly after having my first child I developed a lot of drug and environmental allergies and Grave's. But, until men start having babies there is no way to prove that theory. I don... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Get Started Here.....
beth01 replied to fetchfelix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It seems to me that celiac can affect someone from head to toe, for no known rhyme or reason, and not following medical protocol at all. I have had so many unexplained medical crap thrown at me and have had doctors scratching their heads for years. It seems like our bodies are different than the other 132 people that walk through the revolving doors. I am... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Get Started Here.....
beth01 replied to fetchfelix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Two years ago, I was an accomplished Medical lab tech working full time while juggling two kids as a single mom. I was severely overweight, but I was functioning. Yes I had some health issues, but none that kept me down for long. I then started losing weight like crazy, to date I have lost 156 pounds, I should state that I was a very slender girl for most... -

ARCHIVED I Am A School Sub With Celiac And Need Advice
beth01 replied to mommyto2kids's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Talk to the principle and explain your situation. Tell them you can get a permission slip from your doctor to have a key to the bathroom. Then tell the secretary get the stick out of her butt. Sorry, that's what I would do. Don't do what I would do, I don't have one of those filter things they hand out before you're born that let's you know when to stop... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Program That Weeds Out The Bad Stuff
beth01 replied to John Burlingame's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I guess I never even looked at the weights. My daughter would chime in with " DUH mama". I really can't wait until the fog advisory goes away. -
ARCHIVED Help Me Get Started Here.....
beth01 replied to fetchfelix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Let me ask you this.... As a nurse, would you advise a patient to "cheat" on a diet? I hope not. You know the progression of diabetes in a noncompliant patient: blindness, amputations, dialysis, kidney transplants. There is a progression in celiac. If you are non complaint you have a higher risk of intestinal cancer, lymphoma, not to mention all the... -
ARCHIVED Help Me Get Started Here.....
beth01 replied to fetchfelix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You might not feel bad now, even though it seems like something has been wrong if you have had multiple hospital admissions with no resolution, but you will if you don't go 100% gluten free. There really isn't much more I can say, you asked what the consequences were of not going gluten free and I told you. I don't mean any of this to sound b%$@#y, I am just... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Program That Weeds Out The Bad Stuff
beth01 replied to John Burlingame's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I looked them up on " they who shall not be named" and yup, it's the one I thought. That stuff is good and would be even better if it wasn't so beeping expensive. Thanks Laura! -
ARCHIVED Help Me Get Started Here.....
beth01 replied to fetchfelix's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have had symptoms of Celiac for over 30 years and was diagnosed 5 months ago. Look at my signature to see what long term gluten eating does to a person when they don't know they have Celiac. There are a whole lot more people on here that have had the same. It's not a fun life and a long hard road to recovery. How are you going to take care of all those... -
ARCHIVED Is There A Program That Weeds Out The Bad Stuff
beth01 replied to John Burlingame's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you guys for the suggestions, even if they weren't for me I just went the total whole foods approach since I was sick of reading SOY on every ******* label. Good to know there are some allergen free things. Is the Tinkyada in the pink bag? Sounds familiar..... -
ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
beth01 replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I can't help you with the Hashi's, I am at the other end with Grave's. Mine was easy, they nuked my thyroid and put me on replacements. I always write a list and then forget the list lol. Started to put it on my seat in the car the night before so I at least remember to take it with me, putting it in my pocket is another thing. The brain fog is the...- 144 replies

ARCHIVED Hormones, Hashi's And Celiac- How Does This All Work Together?
beth01 replied to icelandgirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Write your concerns or questions down!!! Damn frain bogs. I have to before every doctors appointment or I run into a bad case of CRS. My boyfriend and I usually discuss concerns the night before I go since he seems to be able to function on a much higher scale than my brain does right now. Good luck and I hope you are feeling better. Hugs- 144 replies

Welcome to the forum. Sorry you are having so many problems trying to find what to eat. It sounds like you might not have time to take a cooking class working two jobs, but they have tons of videos on youtube that would help you learn to cook. Maybe you could watch a few a day so you could figure out a few easy meals to make. I would suggest something...

ARCHIVED New Here And Need Help With School Policy
beth01 replied to HappyPlace's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree with Gemini about the school not really understanding the policy they have written and are trying to enforce. If they are going to go as far to say that no child can bring anything to school that has ingredients that were processed in a facility that also processes nuts really has to then state that no child can eat anything nut related before school... -
ARCHIVED Managing Nausea From Glutening

I personally didn't like the metoclopramide, I don't think it works as well as the others.
