knitty kitty replied to mamabear42's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Mamabear, Did your doctor address your Vitamin D deficiency? Twelve is seriously low. Minimums are about forty, but seventy or higher is much better for you. You will have to supplement to get it higher. The synthetic form is D2 and is often prescribed, but D3 is the natural form and better utilised by the body. Celiac Disease often causes... -
The Nightmare Continues
knitty kitty replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Fletcher, you poor thing! Get your vitamin B12 levels checked! And vitamin D levels also! Low vitamin D can cause depression. Low B12 can cause mental changes, too. As can deficiencies of thiamine and niacin. "Vitamin B12 deficiency is characterized by megaloblastic anemia, fatigue, weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, and weight loss... -
I'm so glad you found the articles helpful. I'm a little more than Paleo prejudiced. I found another article that is more descriptive of my own experiences with dairy. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21376538 "This is the first report to identify an association between the risk of schizophrenia and elevated antibodies to bovine casein prior...

April, you might want to get your B12 levels checked before and after surgery. Anesthesia can cause a B12 deficiency. Your body needs lots of B12 to process out the nitrous oxide (laughing gas) given in anesthesia. Deficiency symptoms may start several weeks afterwards because your body's store of B12 becomes rapidly depleted. Many Celiacs develop...

High Blood Pressure?
knitty kitty replied to LilyR's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Lily, I understand your worries about mysterious reactions to something eaten or used, but it could be malnutrition. Doctors often overlook malnutrition because they are trained to write prescriptions. Many Celiacs suffer from vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Minerals like Calcium, Magnesium and Potassium are essential for the body to maintain... -
Emily, I agree with Cycling Lady's advice to continue eating gluten until all tests are completed. Many Celiacs report horrible reactions to the reintroduction of gluten into their diets after several weeks or months of being gluten free. They endure these Gluten Challenges for diagnostic purposes after they went gluten free on their own or on poor...

Melatonin Tablets and Coeliacs
knitty kitty replied to johnojohno's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Have you tried tryptophan? It's an amino acid found in milk and turkey. Being allergic to milk, I use a tryptophan supplement, along with a calcium supplement, and I'm out like a light. Another amino acid supplement, L-theanine is good for relaxing and a feeling of well-being, though not sleepiness. And passion flower extract is really good... -
Has your daughter been checked for nutritional deficiencies? Many newly diagnosed people have vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Iron deficiency can cause a loss of appetite as can deficiencies of B12 and vitamin D. Additionally, anxiety can be a symptom of vitamin D deficiency.
