Stomach ache fatigue and nausea
knitty kitty replied to Catherine pearl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Gastrointestinal Beriberi symptoms are fatigue, nausea, stomach ache, abdominal pain, and unintended weight loss. I know from personal experience. My doctors weren't familiar with gastrointestinal beriberi. It is caused by a deficiency in Vitamin B 1 Thiamine. I took over-the-counter Thiamine supplements (Benfotiamine) and felt much better quickly... -

Brands of Gluten-Free Parmesan Cheese
knitty kitty commented on Jefferson Adams's article in Gluten-Free Foods & Beverages
Microbial Transglutaminase is one of the enzymes used in dairy products, gluten containing products and unfortunately in gluten free processed products. Microbial Transglutaminase crosslinks proteins together to improve texture and flavor in foods. Unfortunately, Microbial Transglutaminase acts the same as tissue transglutaminase. Looking for answers!
knitty kitty replied to Penny88's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@Penny88, Welcome to the forum! When exposed to gluten, I get Dermatitis Herpetiformis bumps on my fingers like you describe. I also break out if exposed to foods like dairy, crustaceans, and kelp, because foods high in iodine make the dermatitis herpetiformis bumps flare up. I had to switch to Himalayan salt because iodized salt made dermatitis... -
Thiamine Thiamine Thiamine
knitty kitty replied to knitty kitty's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@heyitsme, Ask your doctor for the Erythrocyte Transketolase test. I think some on-line labs have the test available. Because testing for Thiamine is so expensive and takes such a long time time, the World Health Organization (WHO) says the best way to test for Thiamine deficiency is to take high dose Thiamine and look for improvement in... -
Newly Diagnosed & Anxious
knitty kitty replied to EmilyT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@EmilyT, welcome to the forum! I understand your concern about cancer and Celiac Disease. Studies have shown high dose Thiamine (Benfotiamine) to have anticancer effects. Correcting nutritional deficiencies is important for us due to the malabsorption that occurs as a consequence of Celiac Disease. Discuss with your doctors and nutritionist... -

Gluten after all?
knitty kitty replied to Femke's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
@Femke, and @AshyCo Do you have anemia? Anemia, Diabetes, and Thiamine Deficiency each will cause false negatives on Celiac blood tests. Have you thought about getting a DNA test done? One doesn't have to be consuming gluten for a DNA test which looks for the most common genes for Celiac Disease. A positive DNA test and positive response... -

knitty kitty replied to Baba Fats's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like tallow balm made by Vintage Traditions. Tallow Balm is natural, gluten free, and has been used for centuries. Vintage Traditions has lots of scented and unscented balms. Tallow Balm keeps my skin soft and moisturized. -
@Gingle, @plumbago has given good advice about checking for hidden gluten in medications. I have reactions to Sulfa drugs, a Hypersensitivity Type Four reaction, which causes gastrointestinal upset, rashes, and hives and metabolic dysfunction. People with Celiac Disease can develop this "allergic" reaction to Sulfa drugs like calcium channel...

dermatitis herpetiformis + Thyroid
knitty kitty replied to OhCrumbs's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hello, @OhCrumbs, I've got both dermatitis herpetiformis and thyroid problems. I found a drop of Lugol's solution applied to the skin every so often takes care of my iodine requirements. Just one drop is sufficient. Be careful! See article below. I also found High Dose Thiamine very beneficial in my thyroid problems. The thyroid uses lots of... -

knitty kitty replied to Karen desoto's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I take Thiamine, Pyridoxine, and Cobalamine for pain relief. I have back pain due to broken vertebrae and this combination of vitamins relieves the pain without side effects of pharmaceuticals. Thiamine, Pyridoxine and Cobalamin are vitamins that are water soluble and safe. References: Mechanisms of action of vitamin B1 (thiamine), B6 (pyridoxine... -
Welcome to the forum! I've suffered with severe Ataxia and Neuropathy. Some people with Celiac produce antibodies that attack the nervous system. These are tTg 6 IgA antibodies. The usual blood test for Celiac measures tTg 2 IgA antibodies. Even if you don't have overt digestive symptoms, Celiac can cause malabsorption of nutrients. ...

Welcome to the forum, @Carlyallyn, Is that the test results for TTg IgA, which is usually the first seriological test for Celiac? A result this high above the"norm" is usually indicative of Celiac Disease and intestinal damage. Does the gastroenterologist want you to be consuming gluten prior to endoscopy and biopsies? Usually biopsies...
