  1. after looking through this thread, it sounds like so many people could be aspies that it doesn't even sound like a problem, just a difference. i have wondered if i and my son could have this condition---but ursula once directed me to a test for it and i didn't fit the profile. i have a question for you all about aspies and the gluten free diet. if you...
  2. deb, are you also allergic to gluten? just wondering because of the hives when you touch it. one of my kids used to get random hives before she was diagnosed with celiac, but she is not allergic to wheat.
  3. i have a nutrimill and it does a really good job.
  4. i agree with deb---i think it is highly unlikely that you will get glutened that way.
  5. i recently had a scope done and the surgeon clipped the ring in my esophagus in about 4 places to widen it. i used to get food stuck---it was really painful. i don't get food stuck since the scope, but i still am having trouble swallowing sometimes. it is like certain foods just drag all the way down. i don't have celiac---i was diagnosed with severe...
  6. reglan is a motility drug like mr j said, but it is also supposed to help the sphincter muscle at the top of the stomach to tighten up some which is why it is prescribed so often for reflux in infants. some people have had real success with it. i think you will be able to tell before long if side effects will be a problem for your child.
  7. i've known for ages that onions make me sick, but only recently realized that garlic is probably a problem for me, too. i happen to love both of them. i get nauseated when i eat them. i think i can have a small amount, occasionally, without too much problem. where can you learn about using herbs--such as what goes with what?
  8. i grind rice flour.
  9. when our allergist tested one of our kids for celiac and it came back positive, he wanted to turn her over to a GI. a ped gi is more likely to know more about celiac than the allergist.
  10. you should not put your daughter gluten free until all the tests have been done. some celiacs have diabetes, but not most. bm's can be runny or constipated with celiac. what tests did your doctor run?
  11. when i read your post i thought the same thing as ursula---hypoglycemia. i have a bit of a problem with this and what i eat can make a difference. maybe you can find a different doctor that will listen to you about how much gluten free is helping, and then like ursula said, maybe he will give you a note for gluten intolerance. personally, i think that...
  12. one of my girls thought it tasted like the cardboard box.
  13. according to the medical criteria that is to be met, your doctor can't diagnose your daughter as celiac, so you can't expect them to write a note for school lunch saying that she has celiac disease. why do you need a note for the school? i don't think i would trust the school to feed my children gluten free, note or not. my girls pack their own lunches...
  14. what does your doc say about it?
  15. one of my daughters had white bumps similar to those. the doc told us it was either food allergies or a fungal infection. it turned out to be a fungal infection.
  16. probably nothing.
  17. i'd test her again.
  18. my girls eat them without a problem.
  19. suzanne, sounds like the nexium isn't doing it's job----you shouldn't still be having pain while you are on it----you can still feel stuff come up, but it shouldn't be causing you pain. maybe you need to try a different PPI. kalynn----you should probably be on medication for reflux.
  20. celiac can cause dental enamel defects----but it sounds like it is something else that is going on with your kids teeth----especially since they can be cleaned, but then the discoloration returns.
  21. my daughter did sometimes swallow the reflux, but she was a spitter most of the time. is he still on meds for his reflux? it sounds like his reflux isn't under control and he is getting a little old for it to still be as bad as it sounds. it is a good thing you are going back to the ped gi.
  22. i don't think that a hiatal hernia is related to celiac disease. alot of people seem to develop them as they get older for whatever reason. my daughter was born with hers which is not very common and is considered a birth defect.
  23. i wonder if maybe you might have reflux? i used to get chest pain from reflux----and it would hurt in the middle of my back and radiate up into my neck and sometimes it even made my teeth hurt.
  24. hey cory----we live in idaho. we are about 90 miles away from the U of I. that's probably not alot of help, but she could contact us if she ever needed a little moral support.
  25. laurie----i have atopic dermatitis which has left me with horrible rashes, bloody skin, cracks, scabs, etc. over the years, but there are no scars. one of my girls has what appears to be DH (no biopsy to prove it) and she has all kinds of purple scars when it clears up.
