  1. ((hugs)) I also had many failed attempts with bread! I also found that yeast bread cooked best in smaller pans like the mini loaf pans. My first success was with banana bread/muffins from Carol Fenster (www.savorypalate.com) Quick breads are easier than the yeast ones, I've heard. Then I moved to cookies and have recently found a bread recipe that...
  2. I am borrowing Carol Fenster's Cooking Free cookbook from the library. I've tried a cake recipe in there that I liked and there are several others that look really good. It has alternatives to gluten, dairy, eggs and sugar. I am going to renew it so that I can try some others that look good. I'll probably buy this one too.
  3. My dd also was a horrible teeth grinder. We also did not like to sleep with her. It has improved for her also since going gluten free.
  4. Thanks for sharing this recipe! We are all craving bagels so I may have to give it a try soon!!
  5. I tried the cider in a couple recipes and didn't care for it. Now I just use chicken broth.
  6. ((hugs)) Hope the little guy is feeling better soon!! I also have a sick little girl today!
  7. Sugar Cookies, Fig Bars (adapted), Banana Bread! I still need to try that chicken bisquit surprise!!
  8. My daugher is allergic to rice also. It is very challenging! I have not found a cracker or bread that I could *buy*. For snacks, she eats mostly fruit, veggies. Sometimes Glutino pretzels or Tostito chips. I make bread, cookies, applesauce bars.
  9. I have found that cookbook is pretty easy to adapt. For milk, I either use the Vances, water or chicken broth depending on the recipe. For butter, I use olive oil or spectrum shortening.
  10. My favorites are the Incredible Edible Gluten Free Food For Kids by Sheri L. Sanderson. I also rented from the library Cooking Free by Carol Fenster. I will probably buy this one too!
  11. So funny that this thread is here ~ I have been thinking about Monkey Bread! Betsy, could you please post your recipe? Thanks!

    ARCHIVED Chilis

My dd has had the grilled chicken from the kids menu and been ok. It can't be marinated in teriyaki sauce.
  13. Has anyone checked out the Super Targets in their area? The one near me carries the BRM flours, quinoa, quinoa-corn pasta, some Amy's stuff, some of the Cherrybrook Farms cake mixes, Arrowhead Mills pizza crust mix and probably some other stuff I am forgetting.
  14. ((hugs)) I have done that too when my bread rises too much. I use a modified Bette Hagman recipe for bread and found a tip in another book (I think Incredible Edible) about rising/baking. It said to put on the oven's lowest temp (I found 200 works best for me) and preheat while you are mixing the bread. Then put the bread in the oven and turn it off...
  15. I agree with Betsy. That's what has worked best here too.
  16. I'm not sure how to replace the sugar, but I do know about the eggs. I most often use 1 1/2T water, 1 1/2T oil, 1 tsp. baking powder combined = 1 egg or 1/4 c. applesauce = 1 egg. Ener-G has an egg replacer that you can buy also.
  17. All nuts are out ~ but I just thought of a good salty option ~ her Glutino pretzels smashed up! I'll definitely use raisins, but will have to check on the other dried fruits. I'm not sure I've ever seen any that weren't processed in a plant that might contain peanuts.
  18. I cannot find the McCormicks, Knorrs. I tried the Imagine Chicken Broth and thought it was gross. The Swansons seems to bother my daughter. So now I make my own chicken stock once every month or so and freeze it flat in 1 or 2 cup portions. It's so much better than the store bought stuff. I'd be happy to share how I do it if anyone is interested...
  19. Dinner last night was take out pizza DH, my son and I. Carleigh had Tinkyada pasta cooked in chicken broth.
  20. What sorts of things are you looking for? Check your library. I modify my own recipes and also the gluten-free ones.
  21. Thanks for the update, Vincent... Tanya, congrats on getting Megan on the growth chart!!
  22. What brand of quinoa flakes do you use? I'm going to be going to the HFS this weekend and I REALLY want to try it. What do you think would make a good sub for the nuts & sunflower seeds that she can't have?
  23. First, ((hugs))!! Second, while I haven't had to deal with ADD/HD in my own children, I have several friends who do. One child is on medication and they are still tinkering with it. He is a zombie right now The other friend is not wanting to go the medication route yet and hasn't had him officially diagnosed. I saw/read a book when my first...
  24. Mmm... sounds great!! I'll modify a bit more and maybe my dd can take this to school in her lunch!!
  25. Left-over pork roast in Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce, black eyed peas and Alexia oven fries.
