ARCHIVED Symptoms In 14 Month Old...is It Celiac
mommida replied to babybear's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was having such horrible "D" that she was getting a lot of urinary track infections. The diaper/nappie was just holding in the explosion (most of the time). I would ask the doctor to test for Celiac. -
Toast or grill the gluten free bread to make it more palatable! I would also look into to mid-Eastern foods. Some of the spices are good for digesting and soothe the tummy. Hummus has been great for adding some protein into vegan diet. We don't have to be completely vegan anymore so I have forgotten some of my suggestions. I love The Allergen- Free Baker...

ARCHIVED So New To This!
mommida replied to AgainstTheGrainIdaho's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I suggest The Gluten Free Kitchen by Robin Ryberg. She uses a lot of cornstarch so you don't have to spend Mucho bucks searching out expensive flour substitutes. -
ARCHIVED Just Saw The Gi For My Daughter Argh!
mommida replied to Debbie B in MD's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
How old is your daughter? If your child is still in diapers, that can complicate the gluten challenge further. An endoscopy could rule out other disorders that may be co-existing with Celiac. -
ARCHIVED School Bans Homemade Lunches
mommida replied to Jestgar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Did you see the brown slop on that tray? I wouldn't eat that even if someone told me it was gluten free. What a load of crap!!? This principal better wake up and realize that she is working for the PUBLIC school system and what the majority of the public wants is what they will get. She should be FIRED! The school has overstepped the line. Kids with... -
ARCHIVED My Daughter Made Me A Gluten Free Cake
mommida replied to catsmeow's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
WOW that looks like it would have cost over $80! What a nice birthday surprise! -
ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Have Gluten Reactions Without Celiacs?
mommida replied to meggo623's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
In the case of Eosinophilic Esophagitus food or airborn "triggers" activate eosinophils. Eosinophils can not tell the difference from "normal" tissue and causes damage. So Celiac disease and it's sister disease, DH, is not the only auto-immune caused damage disorder/disease. This type of damage is not an exact match for the definition of an ~allergy~ either... -
ARCHIVED 4 Year Old With Aneamia
mommida replied to beebs's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Have they checked him for Pernicious Anemia? It is the lack of enzyme in the gut lining to properly absorb vitamin B12. There is also ITP (I will probably slaughter the spelling ~idiopathic thrombosis purpura?) It sounds like there is way to extreme of anemia problems. My daughter would get pale and lethargic. She also was too tired to chew food... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else With Eosinophilic Esophagitis?
mommida replied to JonnyD's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My daughter has both Celiac and EE. Celiac diagnosed at 17 months and EE diagnosed when she 6 years old. The Flovent should help you heal, but could give you a yeast infection. My daughter was allergy tested and is not allergic to anything she was tested for. (the control did flare up so testing was supposedly done correctly) We had to do an elimination... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Choke When Eating Certain Foods?
mommida replied to yaelchai's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are other disorders that seem to go along with Celiac. Barret's esophagus, Eosinophilic Esophagitus, a hernia, and sphinter issues can cause difficulty with swallowing food. I would not just blow it off because "It hasn't gotten any worse" like the doctor said. It may be ten years of damage that can finally be diagnosed now because of better doctor... -
ARCHIVED Something Is Still Not Right :(
mommida replied to ChristyL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would try allergy testing. It is not always helpful, but it can give you a place to start. You may have to do an elimination diet. So do yourself a favor and make sure you are doing a food journal. Don't forget peas are a highly allergen reaction and are used in gluten free foods -
ARCHIVED Does Having Other Food Allergies Do Damage Also?
mommida replied to Macbre's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Eosinophilic disorders of the gastro. track are also caused by food "triggers". It is the person's own immune system attacking normal tissue. It is currently having an explosion of diagnoses in children and adults. My daughter's diagnoses is Eosinophilic Esophagitus (she was diagnosed probable celiac 4 years before). Her esophagus was covered in cream... -
I do have the small bright spots that ARE associated with Celiac. It was spotted in a MRI after I had meningitus. I know two poeple with MS. One is just taking medication. The other was having problems with insurance covering the drugs. We were talking and I had showed her some research studies about the gluten free diet "helping" positive response...

ARCHIVED Biopsy/scope Showed Damage But Not Celiac?
mommida replied to brendab's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Eosinophils cause damage that is not considered "Celiac" damage. Eosinophilic gastro disorders are considered food or airborne "triggered". (could be caused by gluten) -
ARCHIVED Jury Duty With Gluten Intolerance
mommida replied to Chattyaholic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I served on a jury and brought my own food. One lady had a bladder problem and it was brought up needing bathroom breaks. I packed enough food to be there all day. I was there for at least 4 full days. Put on a jury by lunch. The judge was great about breaks, so it was not an issue. Every judge and case is different, so do speak up if you think it might... -
ARCHIVED Scared And Nervous....
mommida replied to sprklechica07's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is a list of disorders that can cause these symptoms. Celiac Disease Gluten intolerance H. Ploryi Eosinophilic Esophagitus (or Eosinophils any where in the GI track) parasites Lyme Disease a Hernia abdominal migraine have you checked the adrenal function? the list goes on.... The point is some of the "usual suspects" here can be healed with... -
ARCHIVED Testing My Child
mommida replied to concerned mother's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am not a huge fan of the genetic testing, but it seems like the best test for your child right now. You can still have false negatives and not all Celiac genes have been identified. A gluten challenge can be dangerous. My 16 month old ended up hospitalized for the dehydration brought on by the gluten challenge. Blood test was done before she got too... -
ARCHIVED Extreme Sensitivity To Sounds?
mommida replied to Nads's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had taken a decongestant and it raised my blood pressure. Sounds were unbearable, I felt like crying. I did end up in the ER with chest pain and a rapid heartbeat three days after taking the medication. About 2 months after that I had a gallbladder attack and had it removed. Seriously, go to a doctor to find out what the underlaying cause could be. -
ARCHIVED What Symptoms Did You See In Your Little One?
mommida replied to goodnews's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed "probable" celiac at 17 months. She exclusively breast fed and her BMs would sometimes have a green cast of the more liquid part and stringy blobs of more of the "fatty" part. This was explained as the description of "over milk production" of the feeding mother. Her first attempt at rice cereal mixed into Breast milk caused severe... -
ARCHIVED Birthday Party Help (Not Celiac Related!)
mommida replied to divamomma's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Do you have a gameboy? My daughter's little boy friend came over after school to play when she wasn't feeling well. She had him sitting staring at the dyer waiting for her blanket to be dry. I slipped him the gameboy to play while his princess was waiting for her blanket. I would have small game type things for him to do, maybe even take home. It's... -
ARCHIVED Help A Gluten Free Preschool Teacher
mommida replied to iamsarar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I suggest you use the shaving cream on the desks for a good clean scrubbing! (Let them make tier alphabet letters) My daughter is 8 and she still thinks it was the most fun of pre-school. -
ARCHIVED Red Things (Update)
mommida replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Some people try to disolve vitamins in water (i think timing was 15 minutes) to see if the are easily absorbed/digested. You can probably find a different vitamin that you can absorb easier. Your body should be passing what it doesn't need. -
I'm so excited, I just bought a cute trench coat. Now I'm just waiting on warm enough weather to wear it!

ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed -- 3 Year Old
mommida replied to LHach's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm from Mi too. I'm by the Palace of Auburn Hills, were the Pistons play for now at least! Kroger and Meijer have been adding more gluten free products in the stores. If you are close to Hillers, you are very lucky. I heard they have Celiacs in the family and are very aware of gluten free and the need for information. If you talk to the ped. gastro... -
My nails have been terrible before diagnoses. Starting getting better gluten free. I started taking Biotin and they have really starting growing and I have been feeling much better, even my thyroid exam went better. The natural food source for Biotin would be from eating liver. I don't eat liver and don't think I ever will. There is no evidence that...
