ARCHIVED When Teachers Don't Understand Celiac Kids
mommida replied to Grace'smom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I had problems for both of my students last year. My daughter who also has Eosinophilic Esophagitus was on rotation diet last year to determine how many allergens to continue to avoid. Her teacher was AWESOME, not questioning any of the changes. Understanding how we had to determine what was OK in her diet and then a safe or not safe list that was changing... -
Some of the things you describe sound like a vitamin B12 defiency. It has a strong connection to Celiac as Pernicious Anemia. There are also other medical issues that can bring on some of the wacky stomach issues going on. Have you been tested for....? H.ployri parasites worms eosinophils (this can be causing problems any where in the digestive tract...

ARCHIVED Want To Cry-So Frustrated!
mommida replied to lvpriest's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is going to add even more confusion to the topic. Eosinophils in the digestive tract. i.e. eosinophils showing up anywhere in the digestive track from the esophagaus to the colon. These disorders are increasing in diagnoses. Perhaps just as difficult to get diagnosed as Celiac. Specialist in the disorder will tell you it is a mystery. Some things... -

ARCHIVED Adrenal Glands And Celiac
mommida replied to Canadian Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There is a percentage correlation between Addison's and Celiac. Addison's is broken into 2 different diagnoses. I'm sorry I am having a bad brain functioning day here. I have 2 extra kid's over from a sleepover. Needless to say I haven't had any sleep. So I hope just having the term Addison's/adrenal failure can help you do the search you want. -
Nice picture! Very nice indeed! I'm afraid if I got back to my six pack days, I would be stuck in front of every mirror I passed. I probably wouldn't have the heart to cover up those abs with a shirt. That would be bad- I live in Michigan!

ARCHIVED Tactfully Telling Someone That They "just Don't Get It"
mommida replied to MommyStina's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, this isn't exactly tactful... I really haven't done it but someone here did. Spray the nearest non edible product on a plate of food. (She was being told to pick something off PIZZA and eat it.) The person sprayed Windex on the pizza. She told them to dab it off with a napkin "cause it was just a little POISON on the food" and now they could... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Plus Top 8 And Other Stuff Free Ideas
mommida replied to StephanieL's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Another vanilla brand that is gluten free and never had any problems with is Simply Organic. Every now and then Costco is supposed to have a nice gluten free vailla too. I also kept DariFree powder on hand too. Put in recipes when it seemed like the rice milk was too thin. See what I mean, you have to focus on what you can have. Pick something you... -
ARCHIVED Ok....any Ideas On This One?
mommida replied to willabec's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
The HIDA scan was the only test that showed my gall bladder was the problem. My gall bladder was slow during the test and the medication injection to stimulate the gall bladder to empty brought on the extreme symptoms I was going through. (Pain and the feeling I needed to vomit even though my stomach was empty.) -

I know a lot of people really dis enjoy life products, but you can find a lot of things to eat through them. Bread, chocolate chips, chocolate bars, kinda like a trail mix bags of seeds and stuff. If you can try chick peas, hummus. It is good for an allergy free bread sandwich spread. IMO There is sunbutter (a sunflower seed replacement for peanut butter... -
ARCHIVED *lucy's* Cookies........ Anyone Tried Them?
mommida replied to concernedmamma's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are looking for an awesome pre-made gluten free cookie, try Liz Lovely. My favorite is the choclate fudge! Order on-line by the case and use the code Liz Rocks (no spaces) for a discount. Gluten eaters love them too! I've tried the Lucy's cookies and we didn't have any reaction problems. The Lucy's doesn't even compare as real cookies compared... -
ARCHIVED Iga Deficiency....does This Mean Anything?
mommida replied to klo289's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have read some statistics that say 30% of Celiacs are Iga deficient. It is a good thing you know this before your testing. You now know that one of the tests usually run, will show up with a very low level. In your case, the Iga showing a low level can NOT exclude you from Celiac. -
ARCHIVED What And How Do You React To Foods?
mommida replied to T.H.'s topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well because of Eosinophilic Esophagitus (or any area of the digestive tract)more research is being done for the body's response to "trigger" allergens. Eosinophils are white blood cells that destroy host tissue. (auto-immune not a true "allergic response") So now they are trying to determine if it a T-cell reaction or a MAST cell response. The body... -
Congratulations! My baby is 7 years old, so my prenatal advice would be out of date. Find a doctor you are comfortable with.

ARCHIVED Any Experience With Ultra Clear Plus "medical Food Product"?
mommida replied to ellie-lynn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry I 'm short on time to look up the product you mentioned. Hashimoto's take some time to completely destroy the thyroid. Your symptoms are consistant with Hashi's, and it probably is just a matter of time before you will be put on medication. (the rest of your life maintenence drug) -
ARCHIVED Other Food Allergies May Be Appearing?
mommida replied to Palindrome's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well our experience with the elimination diet was due to eosinophils. (Your brief description of your doctor I am going to assume the lab work was not ordered for the pathology report.) Advice on the elimination diet... Eliminate all top 8 allergens and PEAS (if you suspect a food add it on your avoid list) 2 weeks Introduce the challenge... -
ARCHIVED Acquaintance Claiming There's A Cure For Celiac
mommida replied to Coleslawcat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Someone told me the drug that alcholics are put on to go through aversion therapy, is a "possible cure" for Celiacs. I have found NOTHING that proves that or if that was even tested. Kinda goes back to the "fast long enough and when your dead, your Celiac is cured" statement. -
ARCHIVED Just Hear Me Out, K?
mommida replied to conniebky's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Connie, Gluten can cause different types of reactions. Allergy, intolerance, and the mystery/theory of T-cell or mast cell reactions. Filling out the forms for my kids there is always a check box of symptoms of the allergy/intolerance. Anxiety is a known and recognized reaction. Celiacs and others on a gluten free diet should be supplementing... -

ARCHIVED 7 Year Old Celiac Daughter With Persistent Tummy Aches But Gluten Free
mommida replied to tncboyd's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed and put on the gluten free diet since she was 17 months. It seemed like she was having gluten reactions while she was gluten free when she turned 6. She was vomitting and complaining of stomach pain. The dark circles under her eyes came back and she seemed to be suffering from GERD or acid reflux. She went for further testing... -
ARCHIVED Inhaled/topical Gluten Vs Ingested
mommida replied to taweavmo3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Please get a flashlight and look down her throat. Give a good sniff around her mouth too. If you find anything odd, send me a PM. It is possible for an airborne gluten reaction to be happening that is not classified under Celiac disease. -
ARCHIVED Nausea Is Back! :(
mommida replied to misslexi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Did you have the endoscopy with biopsy? What were the results of biopsies and where were they taken from? I ask because the symptoms you describe are consistent with my daughter's symptoms for Eosinophilic Esophagitus. If the biopsies were not ordered for eosinophil testing you may have to have the procedure again for diagnoses. Eosinophils are white... -
ARCHIVED Nausea Is Back! :(
mommida replied to misslexi's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was gluten free for over 5 years and then these symptoms appeared again. It was my gallbladder. I had it removed in February. There are some other disorders that present with these symptoms too. Looks like you need to go to the doctor to find out what is going on. -
ARCHIVED Should I Have My Gallbladder Removed?
mommida replied to jasonD2's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Sorry I did not post that very accurately. I notice more frequent low fat meals are the way to go after having the gallbladder out. It is soo much better not having the feeling you are being stabbed in the back to finally go away! Suffering through a gall bladder attack feels just as painfull as childbirth
