  1. Hi Rachel: Haven't spoken to you in a while. Thanks for the sulphur list. I "look" at the posts on this thread and don't have much to add; however, I have sulphite allergy and your list was interesting. Wine is a sulfite aggravator for me....I know when wine has a lot of sulfite in it as I lose my voice from it. I also wonder if herb teas (which...
  2. It's unlikely that there is dye in chop meat (beef) which has been ground up at grocery meat dept. in grocery store. Unless you are purchasing processed meat, like frozen hamburger patties: then you should read the ingredient label and call the manufacturer/processor. there's two possibilities going on here: 1) you have become sensitive or allergic...
  3. That's great! And to think when I was a cashier 35 years ago ALL grocery prices were punched in by hand...she should get over herself!
  4. Bravie: Is your Mom a member of an organized religion or is she "on her own" with this "curse" stuff? If she's a member of a church, then is that church teaching this "cursing" stuff? If so, then this would explain that she's been brainwashed a bit, if not, then maybe she is mentally ill. Even if her church is teaching it, perhaps you can mitigate...
  5. Your choice of cake was none of their business. If they listen in, they should be polite enough not to show it...or say nothing. My husband's sister said this same incredible thing to him when he first went gluten free. The sad part of it is I think she has undiagnosed celiac herself. She won't go and get tested. So by not going gluten free, she...
  6. Dear TGrand: I have no suggestions for you, but I understand completely. My husband makes his own food and cleans up his own stuff - since he has other sensitivities he can't have even gluten-free prepared foods. He's always up to his elbows in cooking from scratch everyday (he hates leftover potatoes). And we can't have dishwasher in our little apartment...

    ARCHIVED Colds

Knock on wood for my husband, but even when he was misdiagnosed he never came down with colds...still today, I could have a bad strep throat or cold or stomach flu and he never gets it. Knock on wood I don't want him to get sick. I have a very bad cold this week however. There's a bad virus going around -- my Dr. says it can last 2.5 weeks: chest...
  8. Some reasons for non stop diarrhea (other than celiac disease) 1) Gall bladder disease (sometimes, not always) 2) colitis 3) pancreatic disease and insufficiency of digestive enzymes (cannot digest fats/veggies/starches witout these enzymes - result is diarrhea 4) colon cancer 5) wheat allergy and/or other food allergy (soy, herbs, etc...
  9. I am impressed by your good memory Lisa!
  10. Schools owe the students a higher degree of care than a fast food restaurant does because they have total physical care, custody and control (custodial responsibility) of those children for several hours a day. The school system has a duty to the parents (and children) due to the fact that they are acting as the "parents" for the day. A duty requires...
  11. et tu Hershey? I'd pay the 80 cents for a Hershey 's candy bar if it was made in US and I knew it was gluten free. However, I have to say that their chocolate quality has dipped in the last few years....their product tastes waxy.
  12. My husband has celiac..I gave up gluten baking in my kitchen 4 years ago. I do not have any flour in house. I miss baking terribly but it's not worth the risk of making my husband ill.
  13. Amanda One word of advice: you many have to declare the pay as "income" and pay federal and state taxes on it. Reason: as a nurse, the Mom may have a Flexible Spending Plan at her work and this plan actually reimburses her for a portion (if not all of her daycare expenses). However, she will have to name you as the receipient of the funds and...
  14. Immodium is great and works quickly. Take it while you are experiencing chronic diarrhea. It's not good to let non-stop diarrhea continue. Does your GI know about this diarrhea? Also, perhaps the red meat can be too heavy in fat (even though it is lean). Beef fat can sometimes be hard to digest. But please get others opinion on this one..
  15. If you are not eating spinach or other green veggie, then I'd say, from experience, that the green stuff is undigested bile. Let your GI know this and how often it occurs. Are you getting any pain in upper right back and right underarm? Any extreme gas pain in right side of chest? Have you had an ultrasound of your gall bladder? Open Original Shared...
  16. the obit didn't mention his other child - Phillo Dough.
  17. Correct....maybe he was trying to make a joke.... I note that Clann Thompson states it's gluten-free .....too bad it wasn't healthy for you too!! I thought it was.....
  18. My celiac husband has the same situation. He cannot digest fruits and vegetables without abdominal pain, gas, bloating, maldigestion, indigestion, loose stool and "colorful" stool. He does not absorb the fruits and vegetables either (carrots, greens) and does not eat them due to the maldigestion. He was 27 years misdiagnosed and now 4 years 100...
  19. The only thing I can think of is that when he said to others "She's always in the bathroom." They felt he was just saying what every guy says and he was exaggerating.
  20. I don't have children either and I have been just reading this thread for a couple of weeks and I am amazed that there is so much food in a classroom! I had no idea that the school day was structured around Reward Breaks and snacks. I was recently in the company of a couple who have children in grammar school and they were kvetching about their...
  21. Has anyone had the experience of restless leg being made worse by antidepressants?
  22. Meline Does this mean that you do not have Celiac support groups in Greece or a Chapter of the Celiac Sprue Association there? Deb
  23. Do you mean laxatives or fiber supplements?
  24. ditto here. I am a "literalist" and tend to take everything at face value.. it's also a little naive of me...but I too would be scratching my head over that. I'd say to myself "Surely I am going to go to the party with a gift AND best wishes." I often have to ask myself when I read or am told something like that "Does the person mean something...
