  1. Glad you had a good time...it's about time you have a good time. I am one-fourth Napledon and one-fourth Sicilian (other side is Scotch/German/English-maybe Irish that's questionnable) but I grew up with the Italian side. People look at me weird when I tell them I am part Italian because I have milk colored skin, blue eyes and blonde hair. I definitely...
  2. gfp, very interesting food for thought.
  3. Avon care deeply body lotion with Aloe
  4. Marcia, you're not alone ...hubby has been ill for many years (misdiagnosed) and did everything doctors told him to do: eat whole wheat grains, etc. Now in 2003 finding out that it was the wrong thing to do he's not happy. The misdiagnosis has taken a toll on his body and left him with other permanent health issues. He always kept healthy - non smoker...
  5. I tried this route too and it's near impossible. The crumbs get trapped under the coils, some are permanently imbedded in the metal.
  6. Ms. Sillyyak screwed...you did some very interesting research. In 2003 when my husband was finally diagnosed properly I then recalled hearing about the "banana babies" from years ago. It triggered my memory that I read or heard about it. It does appear that the old days doctors knew more than the current ones about this subject. Just have to say...
  7. Original onset in 1977 hubby had to stop working as he was very, very ill with severe symptoms and weight dropped from abougt 180 to a low of 128. Spent years 1977 to present just home taking care of himself and was finally correctly diagnosed in 2003 but too little too late; his body has taken a beating from the disease. His weight went to 155 but never...
  8. Briget sorry you interpreted my post as twisting .... not my intention. I was just stating how I try to let people be who/what they are without passing judgment (as that has been done to me on these boards in the past). There's a place for everyone's opinion and no one's opinion is right or wrong but there's a contingent that will say "black" when...
  9. Danielle, keep us posted on how you made out at Dr. and how everything is going. I am concerned over your current state of health at this point. D.
  10. first analyze "Is there something you are taking that will turn your stools dark?" like aspirin, Pepto Bismal, any "bismuth" medication, spinach or iron supplements. Ok, next, what about dairy....sometimes dairy will constipate. Are you lactose intolerant even to a small degree? This might sound kooky, but are you eating a lot of chocolate (it...

    ARCHIVED "house"

although I didn't see the show, the next day a number of my co workers came up to me to let me know they saw the show and wanted to know more about celiac. It opened a conversation that would not usually be spoken about. Some of them knew my husband has celiac disease & some didn't but during lunchtime in cafeteria they mentioned show and I just...
  12. It does get better. My husband's depression lasted almost a whole year after he went gluten-free. but he was celiac for many years before that and did not know. best wishes, D.
  13. Bridget I read the posts as I see them. If the person says that they are in a living hell with the disease, I do not try to analyze them or make them feel that they are wrong for feeling that way. If you can't vent and be negative about the disease or doctors on this forum, then where can you vent? If the person says that celiac is not interferring...
  14. My husband has opposite problem, sort of .... he cannot have (digest) fruits and vegetables nor beans. Before he got ill with celiac, he ate a very balanced diet meat & veggies & fruits & soy, etc. Now he relies heavily on meats (all kinds) and fish and is kind of bummed out still that he can eat more vegan food (just to clarify, he was...
  15. ...ok, when is the repeat? Missed it - forgot it was Tuesday. D.
  16. As someone who has serious allergies: mold, sulfites, penicillin, fur, dander, feathers, trees, wool, dust and mites, pollen, grass, etc. I can attest to fact that certain foods will give you a tummy ache if you have allergies. They are dried fruits (raisins) because they hold mold and sometimes are treated with sulfites. Melons have mold; sometimes...
  17. Karen, you have my prayers and kindest thoughts for your Dr. to find a resolution to your chronic D and get you back in good health. I know that the vibrant Karen we all know and love will be back on track; so keep positive thinking going. D.
  18. Welcome to our group. Best site for gluten-free info and gluten-free chat. Where in Jersey are you? Do you belong to a support group?
  19. Wow! It gave me chills to read what you went through. Very, very happy that you are doing well now.
  20. I met my husband in 1974 before he got ill then I married my husband after he had his "mystery" illness - unbeknownst to me and him it was celiac. We've been married since 1979. We married for "in sickness and in health." I'd give up everything I own to make him well again. My advice is going to be blunt, so if you don't want to hear it, skip...
  21. As many of you know I don't have celiac, my hubby does, but any dried apricots bother me (extreme gas) and the preservative is sulfite, an allergen for me, which makes me have a bowel movement (when I drink wine that has sulfites in it, I get the same reaction). So dried apricots give me a tummy ache as well.
  22. Great news that your growth is benign. I agree with prior poster that your emotions have been frazzled by the fear of cancer and having a cancer scare - and fibroids - can bring on all good and bad emotions/feelings. (I've been through a few cancer scares in the past few years myself). I agree with you about doctors. ....

    ARCHIVED Can You Beat This

Just when I thought I heard it all (about doctors) .... hope you find a great doctor who doesn't think he/she is "God."
  24. My celiac hubby has bursitis in both knees (doesn't do physical labor) and anyway he needs to have the bursa sacks removed now.
