ARCHIVED Question About Abdominal Noise
debmidge replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hubby is 100% gluten-free for over 2 yrs and still has noises. I can hear it across the room. But it's nothing like what he had for the 26 years he was un/mis diagnosed.. Suppose it's other sources of food bothering him, but can't tell what.....it's not everyday like pre-celiac disease diagnosis, just now and then. -
ARCHIVED First Loaf Of Bread
debmidge replied to Rachel--24's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We have used the Breadman for over 2 years now (the 2 lb. loaf machine) and it does need some help in mixing the dough up (I use my gluten-free spatula for that). I use gluten-free Panty Favorite White Bread Mix (I think it has dairy in it already). My only problem is that it takes over an hour for it to rise. then I bake at 360 for about 46 minutes... -
ARCHIVED The Best Advice Or Info About celiac disease You Have Gotten From
debmidge replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I feel like I am at the Oscars! I'd like to thank Scott for creating this wonderful forum and the entire Celiac.com site. I like to tell my forum friends how much I appreciate their kindness, care and concern. I have learned a lot (like separate toaster, implements, etc. - thanks to celiac3270, who is the Ambassador of this Board!) I especially appreciate... -

ARCHIVED Elizabeth Hasselhoff - The View
debmidge replied to Lisa's topic in Publications & Publicity
The Jen/Brad/Angelina thing reminds me of the Debbie Reynolds/Liz Taylor/Eddie Fisher thing of the 50's .... Debbie was married to Eddie and Liz stole him away - same as Brad/Jen. Nothing changes in Hollywood. I never watch The View; it's on while I am at work. I can't take Star Jones anyway. Hopefully EH will return emails or mention them... -

And it's a bad thing to pay in "wheat"? At least that would be a good use for it. -

ARCHIVED I'm A Celiac For Attention
debmidge replied to IntensePort's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I feel that there is sort of a meanness behind it when a person tries to "prove" that you don't have a health issue. Almost like they know better and they are going to stealthily prove it to you. Now garlic won't "kill" my husband like the peanut story but it'll certainly give him gastro problems for about a week. It'll irritate his ulcer, gastritis... -
ARCHIVED Sitting In My Office With Gas!
debmidge replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
He hasn't eaten beans, cabbage or any vegetable like that in over 20 years. That's one of his problems: no roughage. His guts (other than where celiac is involved) can't take vegetables. -
ARCHIVED Sitting In My Office With Gas!
debmidge replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Forgive me if this appears that I am questionning your faithfullness to this diet as this is not my intention, but I just want to clarify my thinking : my husband is 100% gluten-free and has gassy problems, so what you are saying is that despite being 100% gluten-free you too get gassy moments here and there (?) (my husband asked me to ask this... -

My husband's sister probably has celiac, but won't get tested nor would ever eat gluten-free. That being said she does understand the believe he has celiac disease, but he also has other sensitivities like garlic. For some reason she has in her mind that now that he is gluten-free and looking and feeling better he should be able to eat food that has garlic... -

ARCHIVED Sitting In My Office With Gas!
debmidge replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know this sounds nuts, but when my husband has his bouts of this, I tell him I love him anyway. And inside I think of how I will miss this, yes miss this, if anything were ever to happen to him. So no complaints from me on this - he's free to gas away all he wants/needs. Because the day it ends, my heart will be broken. -
ARCHIVED Vance's Darifree Fake Milk
debmidge replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Additional Questions: 1) After I make it, I store in refrigerator - how long does it last? 2) It is best tasting right after it's made? 3) Does anyone get any gut reactions (non celiac reactions) from it? -

ARCHIVED Sitting In My Office With Gas!
debmidge replied to erin24's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My husband's G was not smelly before his diagnosis; he always had it and passed it, but it was neutral. Now after going gluten-free it has an "aroma." I found that to be strange. I am lactose intolerant and have IBS issues from time to time and when I was in cubicle days I learned that using "Static Guard" to mask the aroma of gas works too. I... -

ARCHIVED Looking For Kindergarten Friend
debmidge replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
since when majority of women marry they take man's last name, does people search use old name or new name or both for the search? Also, going off topic a little, in the Obituaries I'd like to see the woman's maiden name just in case I can't tell if it's someone I used to know. Why do most Obits ignore that detail? It's almost as if her life before... -
Hi - my husband has celiac disease and since he doesn't like computers I do the typing for him He still had symptoms for at least the first year after he went 100% gluten-free. He still gets some crazy symptoms of gas but no D. He was misdiagosed for 27 years and finally diagnosed in 2003. So the wait is worth it, your body will eventually catch...

Same doctors who gave my husband colace (he had undiagnosed/misdiagnosed celiac disease the whole time from 1977 to now) also berated him when he asked for a lower GI series (after them doing just an upper GI and finding nothing wrong). The doctor said to him "You junkies are all the same. You only come here (making up symptoms and get tests) to get...

ARCHIVED Going To A Wedding, Is This Tacky?
debmidge replied to skoki-mom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, I don't think there' s no right or wrong on this opinion. We all have to make the decision for ourselves how we want to handle the problem. Checking into the menu and food preparation isn't tacky when it's a close friend or relative. It's all up to the individual and their relationship to the B/G & family. Our method is just another...
