ARCHIVED Had Allergy Tests Done, Not Pleased With The Results!
ArtGirl replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Vitamin C 500 mg by Solgar. They say on the label it is free of corn, yeast, wheat, soy and dairy products without the use of preservatives, artificial flavors or colors. (I've had no problem with it, but there are some on the corn free forum that have had a reaction to Solgar products - depends I guess on the individual) Honey should be corn-free but... -
ARCHIVED Had Allergy Tests Done, Not Pleased With The Results!
ArtGirl replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Man, that's a bummer about the fruit. Is that because of yeast? I know there's always fungus on melon skins due to storage, and those with yeast overgrowth should not eat it. Yes. Especially meds - they almost all contain corn or corn derivatives. I cannot take any over-the-counter pain or cold meds. I take gluten/corn/soy/egg/milk/etc.-free willow... -
ARCHIVED Questions?!
ArtGirl replied to lax87's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The forum member, Nini, has a Newbie Survival Kit on her website. Go check it out and print out the information there to read and keep with you when you/your mother shops. Open Original Shared Link It took me about three months to learn enough to be 100% gluten free. For the first two weeks when I found this forum I spent at least four hours a day reading... -
ARCHIVED The Closest Thing I've Found To A Real White Bread!
ArtGirl replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was going to ask about the ingredients, but decided to do a google search and found out that it doesn't have anything in it that I can't have, including eggs. I'm going to go out and buy a loaf tomorrow. Ingredients: Filtered Water, Rice Flour, Tapioca Starch, Cold Pressed High Oleic Safflower Oil, Pear Juice Concentrate, Organic Palm Oil, Bamboo Fiber... -
ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
ArtGirl replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought I'd chime in here, too. Haven't read all the posts - don't have the time right now. I consider myself gluten intolerant, not Celiac. The reason is that I have two genes for gluten intolerance, and no malabsorbtion issues (from Enterolab). Now, I'm 60 yrs old, and have had symptoms for probably 40 years if not more. You'd think that if I had Celiac... -
If you don't want to bring your own food and feel like you're "different", you could still enjoy the social aspect of the goup - perhaps skip the mealtime and drop in after it's over to visit with everyone. Just approach the situation matter-of-factly. If you don't make a big deal over it, the others probably won't either. But above all, you owe it to yourself...

ARCHIVED Pork Digestive Systems Of Pigs... Does It Remove Gluten?
ArtGirl replied to HawkFire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
And.... why, do you suppose, they have to give cows (don't know about pigs) the antibiotics???? Because they are kept in feed lots where they stand around in piles of manure for what, several months?, while they eat hormone-rich food to fatten them up. That's worse than pigs in a mud hole. -
ARCHIVED The Severe Glutening Incidents Are Scaring The Daylights Out Of Me
ArtGirl replied to elaine33's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm glad you started this thread. Because of all the posts from people who get really sick with even a small amount of CC, I thought that maybe I should expect this, too. I guess I've been glutened over the last few months of being gluten-free, but most of the time the symptoms have been very mild compared with my gluten-filled previous life. In fact, I really... -
Yes, I've heard him speak - a couple times he has been one of the speakers at the Fibromyalgia Conference here in the Kansas City area. He has a "radical" idea that diet directly relates to health. He has a website Open Original Shared Link where he outlines his diet and lifestyle protocal - he will not see anyone who is not willing to follow this. BUT, he...

ARCHIVED Cybro's Rice Rolls
ArtGirl replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
So.... how were they???? I saw these rolls on the gluten-free Mall today and was wondering if they were any good. Finding gluten-free baked goods that are also corn/egg/dairy-free is a challenge. -
ARCHIVED Pumpkin Pie "cupcakes"
ArtGirl replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Ohhh, I'm gonna be in 7th heaven! Pumpkin pie from AndreaB and apple tart from Mango04's link. And all gluten/corn/dairy/egg-free! Yipee! -
A tsp. of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water, with added Stevia to cut the tartness, before meals was a lifesaver for me. I also drank it whenever my stomach hurt from acid reflux/heartburn. (but, I happen to really like the taste of vinegar so it was no hardship) After a couple months on the gluten-free diet, though, I've had little need for it anymore...

Hoodzmom - you've been given good advice. I'll just add my "dittos" to what the others have said. You may not be able to keep a totally gluten-free kitchen, but you certainly don't have to cook with it yourself. You can buy packaged snacks for the kids - store them far away from where you prepare and store gluten-free foods, and train them to throw the packaging...

ARCHIVED What Do You Put In Rice To Make It Taste Good?
ArtGirl replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
One of my favorite breakfasts is sausage or bacon in rice. This is a good way to use leftover rice (actually, I make enough to use for at least three meals). I use turkey sausage and turkey bacon, but it's still very good. I also make a hot "cereal" with rice, raisins, cinnamon, sugar, topped with almond milk (I'm dairy-free). As far as just flavoring... -
I ditto the "go for it" Sounds like a great place to regroup and heal. From the description of your present condition, I don't think you have a choice. Don't wait until you completely crash. Sounds ilke you've been given good advise to keep your scholarship while you recover.

ARCHIVED Need Menu Ideas For Multiply Food Allergic Child And Sibs
ArtGirl replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'll try to dig out the recipe, but I used to make a pork enchelladas with green chilies and corn tortillas that was very good (I didn't notice corn in your list). How about kabobs - that would make for a different kind of meal and the kids could scewer the foods. I eat a frozen turkey sausage that comes in a roll, I buy it at either Whole Foods or... -
LOL Darn, there's a lot of corn in there (citric acid, sucrose, and possibly in natural and artificial flavors) But, I'll be trying out some of the food sources, for sure! --- I wanna be "proud", too!!!

Very interesting! Could you post the ingredients list so those of us with other food allergies can see if it's safe for us? I'd certainly be interested if it doesn't contain my allergens (corn, soy, egg, dairy, etc.)

ARCHIVED Recovery Time After A Glutening
ArtGirl replied to georgie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My symptoms begin about 15 hours later, usually mid morning if the glutening was for dinner the night before. I have moderate cramps with D all that day and into the next, along with fatigue, brain fog and headache, which can linger on for several days, especially the fatigue. My husband will tell you that I get irritable - but that's only because he gets... -
ARCHIVED A Few Questions For People With Corn Issues Also......
ArtGirl replied to a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm fairly new to dealing with corn allergy and I don't have answers to your questions - but I'm going to stick around and see what the more corn-savy people have to say. However, I would think frozen veggies would be safe unless there's somethiing in the packaging. I have been eating frozen veggies with no problem, but then, I'm not super sensitive. ... -
I tried it for a week and it probably would have helped but many of the positions bothered the pinched nerve in my back so I had to stop. I liked that the exercises were easy to do. I think that anything that gets one motivated to exercise is a good thing. But, I'm not going to "buy" that one can eat large quantities of food and still loose weight. But...

ARCHIVED Primal Defense Probiotic
ArtGirl replied to Marlene's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
ditto It's the barley and/or oat grass. My understanding is that even though the grass part of the plant has no gluten, there's always a bit of the grain that gets into the mix when the grass is processed so there's a bit of gluten in it. I had a number of Garden of Life supplements and had to toss them and some others when I learned about this ... -
ARCHIVED Parchment Paper As A Barrier

ARCHIVED Help! No Potato Chips?! (lectin Problem?) Replacement?
ArtGirl replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you don't mind your "chips" being a bit wet and cold, thinly sliced turnip makes a nice crunchy snack. Can be used for dipping, too. Celery sticks with peanut butter is good, too. But there's really nothing that replaces dry, crunchy and salty. The best I've been able to find is Mary's Gone Crackers. They are very good, but pricey. I cannot stand...
