  1. Wow, sounds like things are really tough right now. I'm so sorry that you're having such a hard time. You have nothing to lose by trying the diet. You don't need to cut out milk (unless you discover other issues) so you can still get calcium. A lot of the symptoms sound like symptoms others on this forum have experienced, so, give it a shot. Start...
  2. I just tried to rate you higher, but nothing changed. Rest assured you are a 5 star person!
  3. Hi Stef, I had a bad reaction to the mold on the rind of aged goat cheese. I'm sure it wasn't the cheese itself because I had non-aged cheese from the same (local) place and had no problem. I called and talked to the dairyman and we talked about how the milk is processed and so on and he went through all the precautions they take to keep their cheese from...
  4. Hi Chel, It's OK, it's just food. It doesn't control you, you are in charge. Take some time to read through the posts on this board. I think you'll find lots of people that have gone through problems and emotions that you are going through. Hang in there - it gets better.
  5. I think you already know the answer to this. Gluten makes you sick. You can't eat it. Your doctor can only say that there was no evidence of destruction to your villi on the pieces that they took. There is no way to know what's going on in the rest of your intestine. Also, even if you aren't destroying your intestine, gluten makes you sick. You can...
  6. I never had a medical diagnosis, just a dietary one. Welcome to the board!
  7. so jealous.......
  8. I do love your new name though.
  9. Gluten may or may not go through the breastmilk, but it doesn't matter. Gliadin, the part of the gluten complex that causes problems DOES go through breastmilk.
  10. This is misleading and dangerous. The person you cited has no publications and therefor has had no peer review of her work. Many other researchers have published that gliadin (the reactive protein) DOES go through breastmilk. I hate to think that you are encouraging new moms to harm their infants by eating gluten and breastfeeding.
  11. Budew, can you find a good naturopath? Bastyr University has an excellent reputation, maybe you can contact them to find someone in your area that can help you. www.bastyr.edu
  12. That's pretty much how I feel. Sometimes it's worth it to ask and sometimes it isn't. Either way, it's just food. I can usually make better food at home anyway. Let them eat their over-salted chinese food and flavorless stews - I'm going home to make pulled pork with a spicy sauce and grilled peppers.
  13. Hi Daisey, I've been experimenting with some of this recently. I agree with artgirl on the bread, except for fruitbreads which seem to be okay, just substitute a variety of egg replacers. (For example: 4 eggs required - gelatin for one, tofu for second, banana for third, egg whites or egg replacer for 4th. Also add a tsp or so of flax meal to your dry...
  14. Dinner-bot, that I can program when I'm home and call to activate when I leave work so dinner is always ready when I walk in the door.
  15. Welcome back. I've noticed that most people still without power are running out of a sense of humor about it. Glad your family survived the extended camping trip.
  16. What a sweetheart Ursula! Congratulations!
  17. I've never heard of meringue powder, but I have a can of powdered egg whites. Maybe it's the same thing?
  18. Can you ask to have him tested for vitamin deficiencies?
  19. Hi Kris, check out Planned Parenthood. They usually have a full women's clinic and charge on a sliding fee scale.
  20. Hmm, maybe you can try poking the capsule a couple times with a clean needle just to make some holes in it.
  21. I think that ever being so miserably depressed while eating gluten, how could I possibly find anyone else's comments or experiences something to grouch about??
  22. Cassidy, there isn't really a clear answer to this. Although a person may not have visible damage on the upper portion of their intestine, there's no reasonable way to check farther into the intestine. It's like making a conclusion about the ending of a book when you're 1/3 into it. A lot of times you can figure out the ending, but not always.
  23. I'm pretty sensitive and I eat all kinds of things that are "made in a facility that also processes wheat". Some people have had issues, but they seem to be related to specific companies. Hopefully once your husband begins to feel better he'll be able to help more with the shopping. Also, once you've found some brands that you like and trust, you'll...
  24. For 1-3 months. Is it worth it? What would change if you had the results?
