I was just in the midst of a very long and very scientific post. I lost it.

I am so angry right now...I dont have time to retype it....have to run errands.

I hope the scientificness stays with me until I have time to redo it. Who knows when brain freeze will take over....I will refrain from eating ice cream until I can repost.

This sucks.

EDIT: I will try to refrain from ice cream until I can repost.

Heres a TOP SECRET HINT - When you have long posts like that, type them first in MS Word, or other word processor, that way you can save your work and wont loose your post. I do it when evern I am typing more then a few lines... helps with spell check too :P

*sniff* lucky you, CArla.....I want a grandma....with a cabin.....in the mountains.....(right now I would just take anyone with a cabin in the mountains, hence my e-correspondence with that MISCREANT - that's right - from my past......:lol:

never too late and dang, aren't you only about 30? now at my age you have to start to get worried.... :o

Premature Post

OMG- I cannot get the music of that ex-MISCREANT of yours out of my head. It's been looping in my brain for two days. must replace it with some Led Zeppelin.

Psst.... look to the left. New user name but still same old me. Shhh..... I got tired of my old one and did a few googles that came up with some things I didn't like.

Leah- Welcome. I've always adored your picture- I think you look like Shawn Colvin in it!

OK- no more diet Coke. I do so solemnly swear none shall infiltrate in to R-ville ;);)

Oh...more news. Colonoscopy results CLEAR. Still violently ill. Hubby and I have decided upon return from Seattle we are moving out. we're convinced it's this apartment. He's been leaving every day for the last two weeks to work in the office instead of at home, and he even says he feels much better. After watching me bow to the porcelain god tonight FOR NO reason, he said we are outta here.

So my communication in the next few weeks may be somewhat sporadic but I will pop in for summaries and to say hello! Love to all, Beverly

AndreaB Contributor

Wow Beverly,

That's not good if your apartment is making you sick. Who'd have thought. Enjoy your trip to my beautiful state (can't say I like Seattle very well myself though :P ).

Nooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It'll do me in just like Blue Diamond Nut Thins. Yes- Rachel, they killed me. I woke up the next morning and had to do a polar bear swim on New Year's Day for charity. 40 degree water does NOT remove gluten. Ugh!

Picard- Enjoy your time with your dad.

Leah- I travel all the time. I bring a lot of my own food, call ahead to place, when in doubt leave it out. two suggestions- in New England I always stay at inns or B & B's that are familiar with Celiac's. There are lots of them. Just google an area, gluten and "inns" or "bed and breakfasts". Another option is in instead of staying in hotels, rent a place with a kitchen. I have a friend who is intolerant of 50 bazillion things and when she goes anywhere, she gets a condo or apt so she can cook. This woman has been all over Europe. It CAN be done and i love to travel so much I will not give it up. So far, I've had minimal problems!

I added you on my aol list Carla. I have several others on there from this site. Maybe I'll drop you a line if I see you on.

edit - just one more thing before I go - -

and it includes scientificness so please tell me what you think!

An acquaintance emailed this to me and I want to know if you guys know anything about this:

"In addition, I attended an amazing lecture on a new emerging

technology...glyconutritionals. Four of the last eight Nobel Prizes were

awarded to scientists in this field. There are 8 essential monosaccarides

(sugars) necessary for cellular function. We only get 2 in our diets. As a

result, we have an huge increase in many types of diseases in the Western

countries. (soils depleted, chemical engineering, pesticides and

herbicides, etc.)

Many people with many diseases, including Celiac, have had their body heal

itself with supplementation of these nutrients. I met a man who's daughter

with Celiac can now eat bread after three months of being on the

supplements!

I'm going to try them and see what happens. They've benefitted stroke

patients, cancer patients, Down syndrome children (you should have seen the

amazing before and after photos!), and on and on. If the cells get what

they need, the body functions properly and can fight off disease and heals

itself."

Do you guys know anything about glyconutritionals? I have to say, it sounds like quackery to me, but I've done zero research. So anybody who might know, would love to hear what you think.

See you!

AndreaB Contributor

Interesting post Susan. I know nothing about it and will look forward to any others who may have. I'm skeptical too.

Susie- how did your dinner go?

Look at you and your scientificness :lol:

I haven't heard specifically about these glyconutrients. My thoughts are this: in my experiences of taking mass amounts of supplements (vitamins, minerals, essential nutrients) over the last 10 years, they didn't allow me to eat just anything I wanted. They may have made me a little stronger, immune system wise, etc., but I still had the allergies/intolerances in place.

Andrea- like with everything else, the chocolate eating in Rachelville has become contagious

I had Pamela's chocolate chip cookies and bbq sauce tonight

I will have to start all over with my histamine diet tomorrow, bad me

Beverly- congrats on the good colonoscopy results! Glad you are deciding to moveout, maybe it will make a difference with both your and hubby's health.

Picard- Enjoy the time with your dad :)

Not together, I had chocolate chip cookies after I ate some brisket with bbq sauce. Three no-nos on a low histamine diet, chocolate, sugar, and tomato products

Where is everyone tonight??

And does Celia no longer love us?

Julie,

I couldn't resist. Hopefully you won't have a real bad reaction to it since you've been so good lately.

I'm here but gotta get your little king to bed in a few minutes. Then I'll be back later and you'll probably be gone.

I know you were just kidding with me :D

Oh my little King Seth, smooshy baby cheeks! Give him a big kiss for me.

I forgot to ask you about the coconut oil and how you make butter with it, do tell.

Yeah, I'll probably turn in in a few so if I don't see you back here, goodnight!

AndreaB Contributor

Julie,

I pm'd you the recipe but I'm posting it here for others who may be interested.

Recipe for butter from Ten Talents by Rosalie Hurd

Into the blender put:

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup carrot juice

OR 1 cup water & carotene

Add.

2 Tbs Powdered soy milk (I omit this)

1 tsp salt

1 Tbs. Coconut meal (Optional) (I don't use this either)

Blend well then add slowly while blending:

1/2 cup soy or safflower oil (I use grapeseed)

Last blend in just to thicken:

1/2 cup coconut oil + 1-2 Tbs liquid lecithin (I don't use, I increase the coconut oil)

Pour into container(s) and chill to get hard. Keep refrigerated.

Well goodnight to all my friends in Rachelville, I'm turning in.

rinne Apprentice
rinne as always, very interesting post, makes me ponder a lot of things.

Thanks for the book suggestion.

I had a feeling about microwaves in restaurants, I imagine they rely on them a lot.

I know that for me, my diet continues to get purer and purer and when I eat the processed and packaged foods once in a while, or get something from a restaurant (which is so rare), it doesn't even taste good to me anymore. I can tell a difference right away. I think our food supply has really changed, if you can even call it food anymore....

A cafe is a lot of work, one of my family members owns and runs one. Long long off hours, lots of turn over with the help, but at the same time she is rewarded by the experience- cooking for people, the personal relationships she has with the townfolk.

Julie, seems like I just missed you.

I have had the same experience with my diet.

The best part of running the deli and juice bar was my regular customers. I love to feed people.

Welcome Queen of Hearts, how do you come by your name? :)

And must we send a posse out to find Cecile? B)

Karen this is the best news. I'm about 6 pages behind as i couldn't get in last nite..then Patti helped me figure out 'the map to Rville.'So now maybe i can keep up. She taught me about the quotes too...all on a nite with a full moon. (God for bid) good news about your daughter too. your on a roll. What's this about you being sick again. Can' t find that part again as i 'lost my Rville road map)

Well, yesterday, this same lady called me and said that a one bedroom apt is coming available September 1st right here in Bowmanville! In fact, it is in one of the buildings that I put Mom's name on the list for! We go see it tomorrow at 1:00 p.m....... I sooooooooo hope this works out, because it would be awesome having my mom so close to me again! I have no idea what miracles this kind angel of a lady performed, but I thank my lucky stars for it! It just re-inforces my belief that you catch many more flies with honey than with vinegar......... Being nice is always the better way to go......

Karen, I was in Newfoundland last summer and loved it, it is wacky. That is great news about your mother and I think you are absolutely right about honey. :)

Cecile, that is beautiful.

Morning all.

Woke up to find my dog has gone, my sweetie left the back door open and she has taken a walk. :( She is 12 and this has never happened before. At least she is licensed, wearing her collar and has a tattoo, if any of you see a medium sized collie/blue heeler cross who answers to Muji, send her home to me. I'm not too worried yet, she is a very smart dog and is best friends with my neighbour and I figure she'll be home for him if not me. <_<

Sounds good. I usually don't actually sign on through AOL since we have high speed, but it's through AOL, so I wonder if it shows me as on. I don't know.

Beverly, glad hubby has agreed to move, I know you've been wanting to. I hope that is the answer to your health problems!

Sorry, didn't mean to bring up a sore subject! I'll make my next batch of cookies chocolate-free in your honor.

Oh thank you...I might just be able to avoid that 12-step program.

Are any of you travelers? How do you cope? Huge suitcases filled with rice cakes?

Almost...I've done most of my traveling before I went gluten/casein free, but have always taken food with me. I just went to Las Vegas a few weeks ago and took all kinds of stuff to supplement my habit, lol.

dlp252 Apprentice
Well dang, no wonder my tortia was 'crinkled' up like a damn fan....i put it in the 'regular toaster'. oie...

going to get some sleep...Rville might be dangerous for me.... i wondered why the toaster caught on fire.

:o Yikes!!! I should have provided instructions! :P

Well the appointment with the dermatologist went just about as I expected...she has no idea why my legs are so itchy. She did give me a script for some topical antihistamine cream and a mild topical steroidal cream. I haven't filled the prescriptions yet, but might be willing to try the topical antihistamine cream. We talked about the histamine foods, sugar, environmental causes, etc. but in the end she can't imagine the food being the problem because she thinks it would be more systemic itching. She also didn't think it was DH because it doesn't look like it, and it should be getting better not worse on gluten-free diet. So, I'm back to still just trying to figure it all out myself. I'm not sure I agree with the reaction being more systemic though...I think we've proven on this site and on this thread that reactions can be very different and attack in different placed in different people.

Dang......did it again and yeah I should admit I am 63 with clumsy phone thumbs. I started feeling better quickly and a doctor a year later said I had to eat  poison (gluten) every day for a month so he could formally diagnose me and NO FREAKING WAY. I couldn't then and can't imagine putting my body through that crap (no pun intended) on purpose ever again.  Why ingest poison for a month to have some doctor say Hey, All you Have To Do Is Never Eat poison Again..

15 years ago my best friend 'diagnosed' me as Celiac. Her little nephew had been formally diagnosed and her observations of me dealing with brain fog, stomach problems and other stuff had her convincing me to try going gluten free. Oh my heavens, within 3 days, no lie, I felt human again. Took me about a y

It seems like you have two choices--do a proper gluten challenge and get re-tested, or just go gluten-free because you already know that it is gluten that is causing your symptoms. In order to screen someone for celiac disease they need to be eating gluten daily, a lot of it--they usually recommend at least 2 slices of wheat bread daily for 6-8 weeks before a blood screening, and at least 2 weeks before an endoscopy (a colonoscopy is no used to diagnose celiac disease). Normally the blood panel is your first step, and if you have ANY positive results there for celiac disease the next step would be to take biopsies of your villi via an endoscopy given by a gastroenterologist.  More info on the blood tests and the gluten challenge beforehand is below: The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:   Not to discourage you from a formal diagnosis, but once you are diagnosed it may lead to higher life and medical insurance rates (things will be changing quickly in the USA with the ACA starting in 2026), as well as the need to disclose it on job applications. While I do think it's best to know for sure--especially because all of your first degree relatives should also get screened for it--I also want to disclose some negative possibilities around a formal diagnosis that you may want to also consider.
    • Wheatwacked
Yes.  Now, if you hit your finger with a hammer once, wouldn't you do your best not to do it again?  You have identified a direct connection between gluten and pain.  Gluten is your hammer.  Now you have to decide if you need a medical diagnosis.  Some countries have aid benefits tgat you can get if you have the diagnosis, but you must continue eating a gluten-normal diet while pursuing the diagnosis. Otherwise the only reason to continue eating gluten is social. There are over 200 symptoms that could be a result of celiac disease.. Celiac Disease and Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity  both cause multiple vitamin and mineral deficiency.  Dealing with that should help your recovery, even while eating gluten.  Phosphatidyl Choline supplements can help your gut if digesting fats is a problem,  Consider that any medications you take could be causing some of the symptoms, aside from gluten.
