I don't know how to really explain it, you just kind of swallow air.

oh dear gaaawd...I grew up with brothers also....I can burp louder and longer than anyone I personally know, can burp many alphabet letters, Lisa.....this is fantastically entertaining around the campfire but a skill that I must use, um, judiciously.... :lol:yet another useless talent.....

Okay now here's what you do. Am doing it right now as an act of selfless altruism to help my non-burping friend. Go like this...how the heck do I explain what I'm doing? dang a good one just slipped out  .....you have to push your throat closed and then....force air down the back....it makes a noise.....then the pretty burp can come out. Now, I don't recommend this for an amateur, but if you force air down for about five solid minutes and KEEP it there for a couple of minutes more, you can expect a huge, voluminous, whopper of a belch lasting up to.....12 to 14 seconds and dissolving the room in shocked, helpless screams of laughter. Not kidding.

Don't be jealous. I have tried to teach others and I do think talented on-demand burping is a hereditary trait, I am so sorry. ;)

Honestly i keep a six pack of A&W rootbeer. EVERYTIME i drink it, a couple gulps and i burp. Once in a while pepsi does it but always a&w.

I will beat you at any belch game ... anytime... :o:ph34r::lol:

oh yeah? B)

I gah-ran-tee I will beat you...no one can burp with the LOUDNESS and LENGTH that I can....it is astonishing and fantastic......

sorry Lisa, is this helping you at all?:o:lol:

My dh used to burp the words "Excuse me"

so sorry......so sorry......it's hard to explain even in person, I can't do it in writing! maybe try the root beer suggestion?

queenofhearts Explorer

Really, it's so hard to explain! I sincerely tried to think of how it happens, & I really couldn't describe it...

Try to describe how you sneeze... it's just hard!

I know this is pain full. The green GasX sometimes work but I usually have my hubby 'burp' me like when our kids needed burping...he presses the palm of his hand on my shoulder blade (where ever you feel the pressure) and then pushed deep and hard up towards my neck as I am taking deep breaths in...for as long as it takes..i usually just start burping.

If he's not around, i back up to the corner of a wall and press really hard with my shoulder blade and try to blech. it works for me hope it does for you

it's really painful.

also as someone said ..any carbonated soda will do it...or pepto sometimes helps me.

good luck

Good Morning Celia, Susan, Armetta, and LISA

LISA--HOW ARE YOU FEELING THIS MORNING? DID YOU COME BACK ON LAST NTIE TO TRY MY TIP?

I FINALLY WENT TO BED EARLY.

Celia, I don't think you upset anyone! I know I come on there when I need a laugh and always get one too..I come to get support and give support...and think i get way more support than i give..:) The only thing that keeps us going with the 'crappy' disease is the humor and I need that alot.

I have been where Lisa was and it was painful and I wanted to get to bed. First time in weeks I'd been to bed before 1:00....so wanted to get on and off and get computer shut down. Now that it's been moved into an armoire, noticed that it gets hot with the doors closed so turning it off at nite.

I put this on the 'new message reply' to Celia from the other forum.(Forget the name but enjoying it esp the info), so i'm just doing a cut and paste.(sorry folks so much to do todya!!!)

I wanted to ck on Lisa..Just Mothering 'Momma Ggoose' I guess ...since my mom passed a few months ago and son in CA ...think i need to MOTHER SOMEONE ha...at least that's what my hubby says... "I have a Mother...stop mothering me"

HA

HA

well back to work.

So are you feeling better Celis and did you figure out it was the water?????

Judy

happygirl Collaborator

Lisa-hope you are feeling better. Let us know!

I second the carbonated beverage. I drink cokes a lot and it always helps! Sometimes a little too much. My husband refers to me when I let out these burps as "Sexy Laura"

Hi Lisa--

I was actually having a similar problem last night.

I had trapped gas that was painfully pressing up against my ribs--bordering on nausea.

I think what triggered it was that I drank a natural soda yesterday, and I only drink carbonated things infrequently.

I found that walking around (while watching TV--I couldn't sit, it was too painful) helped me--I walked and stood thru an entire episode of The Sopranos on DVD! Eventually, I started belching a little bit, and got some relief.

Hope you are feeling much better today :)

Lisa Mentor

Thanks:

I felt so unconfortable so I just went to bed. Much better this morning. I try to take a pepsid about lunch time to frevent the afternoon gas build up. Judy, I have tried to carbonation drinks and it just gets worse.

I'll try gas X maybe that will help.

Judy, I'm glad to see what you look like, yes, the motherly type (a compliment, yes, it was :) Sorry to hear about your mother. I lost mine when I was 2 1/2 so the only mothering I have known is my own.. You can mother me anytime.

I'm a BIG FAN of phazyme. Two of those and you'll be chock full of relief :)

Beware though - relief comes at both ends

Sodas are bad and only add bubbles to your stomach. Gas x will work unless you have the kind of gas that just keeps on multiplying.

I found that rubbing my abdomen and the spot in my body that hurt would make me burp.

For more permanent relief, I have found recently that drinking a small glass of plain kefir works. Which leads me to think this is a yeast problem.

And avoid the foods that cause this the next time. Also, I found that I burp more if I eat too quickly.

We need a little burping smiley face

Hope this helps.

Lisa; Here are the instructions from the oldest poster around! <_< Get a large glass of water and add 1tsp. of baking soda, stir and drink down. Soon you will burp!! this is from my Mom many years ago. I had to take this many times because I had lots of tummy problems (unknown celiac probably), it works.

Glad to hear you gals having fun out of a burping contest. I should have used it on myself, tummy not right but stopped taking an enzyme maybe I don't need.Think I will have a better day!! :) Wish that for ALL of you. Judy, you look so nice and someone else (floridian celia)// too. Way to go girls.

Lisa Mentor

thank you all for your response.

I tend not to list everyone's name, because I know I will leave someone out. (shoot, I was the last to be picked for the basketball team - deep seeded life long issues with that B) )

I tried the gas X and it seemed to do well, I can breath tonight. If I tried the baking soda, which I am sure would work, I think I would burp with every thing else in my stomach. I'll save that for emergencies. The other suggestion, rolling on the floor, Karen, is that with or without an altoid in your mouth. B) .....hey, I'm willing to try anything if it works.

Anyway, I recieved alot of good suggestions as I hope others have.

lindalee, there is always so many things that controll our life. We're ready to get out from under those stresses. I think that this is a good change. We are actually interviewing realitors to list our house. How cool is that. Too bad, you are not here, I'd pass it on to you........any new recruits for the "Hawk"?

Lisa with gas x. (worked pretty darn good)............NOW, ON TO THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM, sheeese.

Sorry to hijack the belching thread to address your downsizing. We decided Dec. of 2004 to go smaller. We had only been living in my dream home for two and a half years at that time. But, I was not recovering the way we had thought and I just did not want to worry about the next dust storm hitting the pool and spa. I did not want to worry about getting someone to do the landscaping maintance. In other words I wanted less worries. So, we bought a townhouse and the builder allowed us to customize. It was the best decision we made. I also found out that we just did not need all that "STUFF". I used to sit with pen and paper at hand and stare at cupboards, tops of cabinets, etc. I would then mark things to keep and things to donate to charity (garage sale, etc). The things "to not keep" list, I would recheck in a couple of days and see if I still did not want ithe item. I sold all of my Lladro's (except 2) on eBay. I thought I could not do without them. I don't miss them at all. I kept the two that were the most important to me. It is so liberating to downsize. Good luck and enjoy it. Big is not always better.

Lisa Mentor

Yes babe, you are so right.

I'm almost 52 and Jim is 67. The girl are out of the house. It is time to clarify our lives. What comes next we want to enjoy. Sometimes "stuff" just over-whelms you. Life is not about "stuff", it's what you do in your life. So a sized-down house in a good place is a good thing.

It just is very frustrating. Jim worked for the airlines for 31 year, and they took a petition to the courts and the courts arbitarily ruled to dismiss the enuity that was contracted to the pilots, to "save the airline". What a crock of spinach. The execs walked away with 33Mil. each.

I'll stop there . I want to sleep well tonight.

It literally blows my mind what these "execs" get away with.......

Lisa, my two cents: Smart move. Downsize, free up more to enjoy life! We only go around once!

Hugs.

so glad the gasX worked. think Karen told me about it.

as i said somehwere??? sometimes the soda doens't work iagree/

did your hubby try the burping techq on you??? did it work..works with babies should work w/us don't you think.

Wish we could downsize...to one floor..ranch..we are downsizing by pitching 'stuff' i don't need stuff cluttering my enviroment any more..i have enough 'clutter in my mind'

nite good friends.

@klmgarland, My dermatitis herpetiformis didn't clear up until I became meticulous about cross contamination. I cut out gluten-free oats and all gluten-free foods, dairy and gluten-free rice. Additionally, getting the right amount of protein for my body weight helped significantly in my body's healing process ... along with supplementing with enough of all the vitamins and minerals ... especially Zinc and Magnesium. I went from 70kg to 82kg in a year. Protein with each meal 3 times daily, especially eggs at breakfast made the difference. I'm not sure whether iodine was a problem for me, but I can tolerate iodine no problem now. I'm off Dapsone and feel great. Not a sign of an itch. So there is hope. I'm not advocating for the use of Dapsone, but it can bring a huge amount of relief despite it's effect on red blood cells. The itch is so distracting and debilitating. I tried many times to get off it, it wasn't until I implemented the changes above and was consistent that I got off it. Dermatitis Herpetiformis is horrible, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Thank you so very much Scott.  Just having someone understand my situation is so very helpful.  If I have one more family member ask me how my little itchy skin thing is going and can't you just take a pill and it will go away and just a little bit of gluten can't hurt you!!!! I think I will scream!!

It is difficult to do the detective work of tracking down hidden sources of cross-contamination. The scenarios you described—the kiss, the dish towel, the toaster, the grandbaby's fingers—are all classic ways those with dermatitis herpetiformis might get glutened, and it's a brutal learning curve that the medical world rarely prepares you for. It is difficult to have to deal with such hyper-vigilance. The fact that you have made your entire home environment, from makeup to cleaners, gluten-free is a big achievement, but it's clear the external world and shared spaces remain a minefield. Considering Dapsone is a logical and often necessary step for many with DH to break the cycle of itching and allow the skin to heal while you continue your detective work; it is a powerful tool to give you back your quality of life and sleep. You are not failing; you are fighting an incredibly steep battle. For a more specific direction, connecting with a dedicated celiac support group (online or locally) can be invaluable, as members exchange the most current, real-world tips for avoiding cross-contamination that you simply won't find in a pamphlet. You have already done the hardest part by getting a correct diagnosis. Now, the community can help you navigate the rest. If you have DH you will likely also want to avoid iodine, which is common in seafoods and dairy products, as it can exacerbate symptoms in some people. This article may also be helpful as it offers various ways to relieve the itch:

It's very frustrating to be dismissed by medical professionals, especially when you are the one living with the reality of your condition every day. Having to be your own advocate and "fight" for a doctor who will listen is an exhausting burden that no one should have to carry. While that 1998 brochure is a crucial piece of your personal history, it's infuriating that the medical system often requires more contemporary, formal documentation to take a condition seriously. It's a common and deeply unfair situation for those who were diagnosed decades ago, before current record-keeping and testing were standard. You are not alone in this struggle.
    • Scott Adams
Methylprednisolone is sometimes prescribed for significant inflammation of the stomach and intestines, particularly for conditions like Crohn's disease, certain types of severe colitis, or autoimmune-related gastrointestinal inflammation. As a corticosteroid, it works by powerfully and quickly suppressing the immune system's inflammatory response. For many people, it can be very effective at reducing inflammation and providing rapid relief from symptoms like pain, diarrhea, and bleeding, often serving as a short-term "rescue" treatment to bring a severe flare under control. However, experiences can vary, and its effectiveness depends heavily on the specific cause of the inflammation. It's also important to be aware that while it can work well, it comes with potential side effects, especially with longer-term use, so it's typically used for the shortest duration possible under close medical supervision. It's always best to discuss the potential benefits and risks specific to your situation with your gastroenterologist.
