Hi, all.

I have just been reading through some of the different threads, and I can't believe some of the shouting matches that I have read. Why has everyone lost sight of the mission of this message board? We are supposed to help each other out, not cram our opinions down other people's throats. This then starts a shouting match back and forth, until the original topic is completely lost. I am guilty of stating that someone's opinion isn't valuable. But, I stood corrected. Everyone's opinion should be valuable, but not at the cost of the person seeking the help. We are all stuck with Celiac's. It's never going to go away. This is why we need each other. I have lived with this for 11 years. Some people have had it longer, and some less. I value everything that I have read on this message board. I am grateful for the support, and I like to help others. So, I hope that this thread is a valuable one. So, next time any of us post, we should just make sure that we don't lose track of the original question, and help out our fellow human's.

Shouting matches? Are you sure you're reading current threads and not ones from about a week ago, that aren't really happening any more? I thought we had resolved all those controversies, and that these past days we had been back on track with just supporting and helping each other. Am I missing something?

You know, from time to time people come in here that stir up a lot of trouble, it's bound to happen. But it doesn't last long, and things get back to normal soon. I believe we are back to normal. Let's not start another controversy by claiming we're not.

Queen Serenity Newbie

Hi,

I'm not trying to stir up, and I hope that this topic wouldn't stir up anything. Believe me, that's the last thing I want. It just concerned me that certain issues had become explosive, which lost the point of support and help.

Hear, Hear, Lisa! There's so much good stuff that's going on here, and that has gone on for so long--it always overshadows (at least for me) the odd silly bickering that occurs on threads that take care of themselves and peter out... :)

This is a community, and like in any group, there will be disagreements from time to time. People's feelings will get hurt, and words will be misunderstood.

It's been my experience here that in the vast majority of cases, these things work themselves out. This is one of the most caring, sensitive, funny, smart and loyal groups of people that I've ever had the privilage to be a part of.

Actually, this last bit of unpleasantness led to a nice discussion about what is good about the board, and suggestions about how it could improve further to meet the demands of the ever growing membership.

Couldn't agree more. It's a harsh world out there! :P

This group had helped me so much. If a topic gets crazy or off topic, I just move to a more focused topic that I can learn from.

Hi Vicky, well we have discussions to air our opinions and the things that we have experienced which may not match the experience of others. Discussion in words is good because it airs all types of views & educates one on what views are out there in the world.

That does not mean that we would not offer support to that person if they needed it, regardless of their opinions. We feel compelled to write our ideas because when one reads the thread if they only see that one view they may not know better and accept it as the only view. When various sides of an issue are presented the person reading the thread can form their own opinion which may not be any of those that are presented.

In any forum there are always ones that are out to fulfill a need they have, which is not to support the group. They can usually be spotted, & they are the same ones that are not going to be around long term to devote their time to helping others.

I think that you are a very caring compassionate person and I hope that you choose a profession that will help others. I would also like to encourage you and others to volunteer your time and talents to do what you can for others. No one is ever too young to make a difference in this world. Whether it is making brownies for a shut in or sending a letter or card to an older relative. (which is always appreciated!)

Thank you for posting, it is such a nice forum.

Must agree with this, guess I missed the war :blink::blink: We don't always agree but in the end we are always there for each other, just like any family :D

I quite like a good row. At least as a by-stander.

I miss Jnkmnky! Now there was someone who could start a fight at the drop of a hat. All of a sudden everyone would kick off over an incendiary comment.

This board has never been all peace and love. Emotional support is something we all value here, but heated debate has it's place too, I think.

Best wishes,

Matilda

This is a place where we can all discuss our own experiences, yes, but all advice is not created equal. That's what we argue about.

there are other boards that only have one moderator and they delete anything that they do not like, so if that type of environment suits one better, they are available.

Vicki, I haven't read any shouting matches. I'm so sorry that's what you've noticed lately. You know I'm a person who has opinions like everyone else and I certainly don't expect anyone to agree with me. Do you?

What do you do when you have an opinion and you see someone has a different one? Maybe you can help by telling us how to express ourselves better. I think everyone is valuable, opinions are just opinions they don't make me love or hate someone. I hold the person valuable so I don't want to offend them but that doesn't make me have to agree with them.

Just one more point and I hope your taking this in good stride but the only person who feels an opinion is being jammed down a throat as you put it is you the receiver. Do you see what I'm saying? You don't have to take it. Be polite and kindly disagree.

Well I hope you come over to a better view on these boards because I love it here I learn a lot and everyone is in the same boat....we get very sick with eating certain food.

I've been here for less than a week, but I've read back on ALOT of threads here

I haven't seen any negativity, maybe I'm blind now :P But I think healthy discussion includes all points of view. Shouting matches, ok not so much, but I respect that people have different opinions. It's just how you express them.

Support each other! But also be open minded :) We're all in this together ....

Queen Serenity Newbie

Hi all!

I agree, that not every thread has negativity. But some of the threads do have people starting out with advice, and it ends up a back and forth match, because of someone else's disagreement. If you do come across a thread like this, then you will see that the original topic got lost. Some others do try to put the topic back to normal, but some people have a problem dropping the issue. As I said before, I have accepted every piece of advice on this message board, since it's beginning. It has helped me a lot! As far as my giving advice, I know that people may disagree with what I have to say. I can accept that. I would never really think of starting a back and forth match with someone else, because I didn't agree. This doesn't help the person asking for the advice. So, I just hoped that by starting this thread, it would just make people aware of the situation. We are all in this boat together! We only really have each other, because, sometimes our family and friends, just don't understand!

Queen Serenity, thank you for the only smile that I have had today (due to the recent tragic death of a young person in my family, but I digress from the thread content).

It just seemed that your name fit your post!!! Getting all your subjects in the proper form. Although not all of us presume to not so much give advice but to offer support, our opinions, and our experiences. We all know that each of us is different, though loyal subjects B) , and that we have to make the decision that we think is best for ourself and our body, & we all know how our bodies have a will of their own.

I have not been around too much anymore due to my schedule but I was very surprised of some of the threads I read when I came back. It seems like it gets too personal at times. I think this place is here for people to talk and share information and support each other and not criticize people for what they think if it is different. I am glad you posted about this problem.

I have learned so much from this forum and wouldn't give it up now. It seems to be our families most valuble resource in finding out anything we need to know about celiac disease. Everyone has a right to there own opinion......even if some people are pushy or loose sight of topic it doesn't mean we have to read it or take it to heart.....just move on to a new topic and leave that one alone. Don't take anything to personal. With what allot of us have been through some things can be touchy.

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with Celiac and dermatitis herpetiformis after years of suffering without answers. I lost my mind. I lost my job. I lost so much time. I lost Me. Conventional doctors are opulent come near me and the one who did sat across the room, misdiagnosed me, pumped me full of steroids which collapsed my entire hip for 6 months. So without answers I began my holistic journey. Fast forward a couple of years and still struggling with a mysterious whole body itchy, crawling “skin hell”, perfect teeth now deteriorating, thick hair now thinning rapidly and no more than a day or 2 at most relief….An acquaintance opened up a functional medicine practice. Cash only, I found a way. Within a month tests clearly showing my off the charts gluten allergy/sensitivity as well as the depletion of vital nutrients due to leaky gut and intestinal damage. dermatitis herpetiformis was more than likely what I was experiencing with my skin. I was happy. I thought this is easy, eat healthy Whole Foods, follow the diet restrictions and I finally get to heal and feel confident and like myself again very soon! 😔 Supplements are very pricey but I got them and began my healing. Which leads to the other major issue: not working, stay at home Mom of young kids, entirely financially dependent on my man of 7 plus years. He’s never been supportive of anything I’ve ever done or been thru. He controls everything. I’m not given much money ever at a time and when he does leave money it’s only enough to possibly get gas. His excuse is that I’ll spend it on other things. So my “allowance” is inconsistent and has conditions. He withholds money from me as punishment for anything he wants. Since being diagnosed, he’s gained a new control tactic to use as punishment. He now is in control of when I get to eat. He asked for proof of my diagnosis and diet bc he said I made it up just to be able to eat expensive organic foods. Then after I sent him my file from my doctor he then said she wasn’t a real doctor. 😡. I go days upon days starving, sometimes breaking down and eating things I shouldn’t bc I’m so sick then I pay horribly while he gets annoyed and angry bc I’m not keeping up with all the duties I’m supposed to be doing. His abuse turns full on when I’m down and it’s in these desperate times when I need his support and care the most that I’m punished with silence, being starved, ignored, belittled. He will create more of a mess just bc I’m unable to get up and clean so that when I am better, I’m so overwhelmed with chores to catch up that the stress causes me to go right back into a flare from hell and the cycle repeats. I’m punished for being sick. I’m belittled for starving and asking for healthy clean water. I’m purposely left out of his life. He won’t even tell me he’s going to the grocery or to get dinner bc he doesn’t want me to ask him for anything. I have no one. I have nothing. Im not better. My supplements ran out and I desperately need Vitamin D3 and a methylated B complex at the very minimal just to function….he stares at me blankly…no, a slight smirk, no words. He’s happiest when im miserable and I am miserable.  this is so long and im condensing as much as I can but this situation is so complicated and disgusting. And it’s currently my life. The “IT” girl, the healthy, beautiful, perfect skin, perfect teeth, thick and curly locks for days, creative and talented IT girl….now I won’t even leave this house bc Im ashamed of what this has dont to my body, my skin. Im disgusted. The stress is keeping me from healing and I think he knows that and that’s why he continues to keep me in that state. He doesn’t want me confident or successful. He doesn’t want me healed and healthy bc then how would he put the blame of all his problems on me? This journey has been hell and I’ve been in Hell before. I’ve been killed by an ex, I’ve been raped, robbed, held hostage, abused beyond nightmares but the cruelty I’ve experienced from him bc of this disease is the coldest I’ve ever experienced. I’ve wanted to give up. Starving and in tears, desperate…I found a local food pantry in our small town so I reached out just saying I had Celiac and was on hard times. This woman is blessing me daily with prepared gluten free meals, donations, educational info, people who know this disease and how they manage life and the blessings just keep coming. But it’s overwhelming and I feel like I don’t deserve it at all. He just glared and I know he’s going to sabotage it somehow. I don’t even know what to do anymore. I’m so broken and just want peace and healing.

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana
