Alex, I don't think it's weird or creepy at all. In fact, it is a FANTASTIC idea that just fits the situation so well - - she was a big part of your life at a very difficult time, she became, it sounds, like a second mom to you for a while, she collects Royal Doultons, and you happen to have one that was your mom's.........sounds perfect. Yes, there will be many happy tears, I am certain!! :):)

Let us know how it goes......

gads. If people don't shut up about how incredibly sweet it is, you're gonna have a room full of sniffly sillies...

Popping in to tell you all that I spent the day at one of the least likely places a Celiac would go to.

An all day beer fest!

I, of course, was not drinking, and was the coolest DD to my husband and friends.

I refused to touch anything in the whole place!!!! But, a beautiful day and a lot of fun, even for the sober girl ;). Can't say sober about the guys though!!

Sillies I am so pooped! I am barely keeping my eyes open to type this. The BBQ was great, I ended up returning once Landen arrived. My coworkers fell in love with him. he was very well behaved. I was a little worried since we are cutting teeth right now so he is not himself. He was great though :) I think I am going to hit the hay for the night. Bye Sillies

Morning, Sillies!

Well, it's just Jack and I for the next three days...DH took off this morning for a meeting in Toronto, and is carting along DD and two of her girlfriends. They will be set loose on the downtown streets of the megacity, doing teenaged-girl stuff. :rolleyes:B)

Sophie called me about a half-hour ago - - they'd been gone twenty minutes. She had suddenly barfed out her window, all down the side of the car. A few miles later, she got out and threw up again at the side of the 416 highway. In between the barfs, she had taken a Gravol, but it came up. So she's taken a second one. This child never gets carsick....I'm hoping it was the four bowls of strawberries she ate last night.

We shall see. So sorry I jammed out of that trip.......

Lisa! Fan-f*ckin'-tastic artwork!

Hmmmm....too bad there isn't a Vomitguy Emoticon for this post......

.......//

:o //

Wow....that's pretty projectile.......

Poor Sophie....hope the pukies were just a one time thing and she'll be able to enjoy the rest of her trip :)

Guys,

I saw the most heinous, vile display this morning on the Today Show.....a woman was standing in the crowd, holding a little dog in her arms, partially covered with a blanket. She was telling the host how the poor dog has only one eye, is missing a leg and has skin cancer. She went on to say that the vets have given him about 9 months. :(

Here's the part that made me turn off the TV in disgust.....this woman is carting this poor creature around, entering him in The Ugliest Dog in America contest. <_<<_<<_<

She mentioned how, at one point in the competition, he fell asleep.....gee, ya think?????

This has been bugging me all morning.....I'm thinking of emailing the show.

I know it's Sunday and all but what in hell is the matter with some people?

I heard about this earlier this morning. They've actually declared a winner - - it might be this poor wee thing that you saw, Patti. His name is Gus (!)....

Morning sillies,

Quick Poop-By--Meeting with my college friends in an hour for driving range and lunch.

Sorry to hear about Sophie's carsickness....hope she is feeling better by now....that is never fun!

Patti...that show would bother me so bad, I saw a show similar to that one night late and it was the Ugliest Child in the World....I was appauled to say the least...what a way to ruin a child's self image!

Thanks for all of the input about the gift thingy everyone! It sounds very unanimous that it won't come across as creepy in anyway. I think I may write a note to go with it so that she can know exactly how I feel and why I want her to have it in case I get too nervous or emotional to say everything I want to. I really do think it is a great opportunity to thank her for her profoundly comforting presence in my life at that time but I just feel a little nervous about it for some reason.

Poor Sophie....hope the pukies were just a one time thing and she'll be able to enjoy the rest of her trip :)

Yes, that doesn't sound like a very fun start to her summer vacation!

Poor pup!!! :( A dying pet should be treated with reverence and love. We treated our doggie like a prince when we knew his time was limited (not that we didn't treat him well before). We made a soft pillow bed by the fireplace and cooked him healthy meals and invited our neighbours and their dogs to come spend time with him to keep his spirits up. Your pet lives his life for you and to disrespect him and the end when he needs you most is despicable.

Hallo Psillies!!!!!!!!!!!! SusieQ- Love your Kissey avatar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's beautiful!

This is just a quick drive-by poop-in! I am exhausted.....Went to NYC Thursday, ended up staying overnight (long story but kinda fun- New York is crazy but so much to see!). Got home late Friday and by Saturday afternoon my arm was in flames and had to have PICC line immediately removed. It was a relief as I was ready to do it myself. Arm was so itchy and yucky. It's much better today but I expect after all this excitement, I will sleep for days.

Hope everyone is well- what did I miss????????????? Cannot go back

I had the exact same thoughts as you when I saw it. I literally couldn't believe my ears as she was talking and the newsman who had been interviewing her looked uneasy, too.

Hi Bev!!!! :D Yep--love NYC!! It must be so nice to be disconnected from the PICC line! Is that it, or will you have to have it re-done at some point?

Speaking of pets and their negligent parents....

I just caught Allo, who seems to have a new lease on life lately, (I think in part due to his joint suppliments) trying to off himself by sticking his whole upper body in a plastic bag... :o

We just got back from shopping, and I put a bag from Linens & Things on the dining room floor whilst putting away groceries. I hear something, and see the palooka trying to curl up inside this bag! Gawd

This is SO nice, Alex! :)

Man, I guess I should be treating my dad more like this....putting him beside the fireplace, cooking really healthy meals for him, letting the neighboUrs in to visit more....

 Patti, I don't get it either......short exam on a stick? something-cicle? what? does it have to do with pizzles?

I stared at this "DD" for a full 10 seconds before I figured out it meant Designated Driver......I really thought, when I first looked at it and was not computing, that Miss Laura was bragging about her.......cup size.

Hi Bev!!!! :D Yep--love NYC!! It must be so nice to be disconnected from the PICC line! Is that it, or will you have to have it re-done at some point?

NYC is crazy! I don't know about the PICC line......we are going to do oral for the summer and if we don't like what happens, back to IV in the fall. I'm having a lot of regret....not that I had a choice but I'm terrified that the 12 weeks I was about to do would have been what kicked the beast. I've been on the verge of tears all afternoon. :( :(

OUCH!!!!!

Em! Should be an awesome jazzfest!!

I was bummed to find out yesterday they've doubled the price of the SJ one. :(

Still, just 10$/day, but for at least 18yrs it was ALL FREAKIN' FREE!!!!!!!!!

Laura, no kiddin' on the 'what a non-celiac thing to do'. I miss my beerfests. :(

(Took me toooooo long to understand DD as designated driver :o )

Argh bummer for Sophie .. ...strawberries?? Hmmmmm

Don't have regret, you might make just as much progress on orals as you did IV. :)

Me, too .... I kept thinking it was "dear daughter" and wondered how she became her husband's daughter for the afternoon.

My apologies for the confusion over "DD," but I am happy the mystery has been solved. ;) It gave me a very good laugh this afternoon though!

Bev, I'm thinking of you!!!

I might suggest you consider buckwheat groats. https://www.amazon.com/Anthonys-Organic-Hulled-Buckwheat-Groats/dp/B0D15QDVW7/ref=sr_1_4_pp?crid=GOFG11A8ZUMU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bk-hCrXgLpHqKS8QJnfKJLKbKzm2BS9tIFv3P9HjJ5swL1-02C3V819UZ845_kAwnxTUM8Qa69hKl0DfHAucO827k_rh7ZclIOPtAA9KjvEEYtaeUV06FJQyCoi5dwcfXRt8dx3cJ6ctEn2VIPaaFd0nOye2TkASgSRtdtKgvXEEXknFVYURBjXen1Nc7EtAlJyJbU8EhB89ElCGFPRavEQkTFHv9V2Zh1EMAPRno7UajBpLCQ-1JfC5jKUyzfgsf7jN5L6yfZSgjhnwEbg6KKwWrKeghga8W_CAhEEw9N0.eDBrhYWsjgEFud6ZE03iun0-AEaGfNS1q4ILLjZz7Fs&dib_tag=se&keywords=buckwheat%2Bgroats&qid=1769980587&s=grocery&sprefix=buchwheat%2Bgroats%2Cgrocery%2C249&sr=1-4&th=1 Takes about 10 minutes to cook. Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
