Hub sent me this CNN link yesterday. He was excited about using the ginger snap cookies for a pie crust. I was going to make a pumpkin pie without crust to save calories but he is really excited to use the bag of cookies he bought for crust. He doesn't care much about regular pie crust.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of trying to bake my first gluten-free pie crust from scratch!!!

Hello people... Judy has a blue tongue tonight LOL Went with guy friend (too old for boyfriends huh?) to his sisters birthday and there was cake... of course not gluten free and my first experience at such an event since the big diagnosis 11 days ago... but he's such a guy and felt guilty eating it in front of me so he fed me blue frosting balloons off the very top of the cake that never touched the cake. :P I have a bit of a tummy ache (didn't tell him that)so I think it touched the cake but it tasted so good. 6 people eating cake and I sat there staring at the tv.. this is hard darn it!! I need to learn how to make gluten free cupcakes or something for these occasions... mental note Get on it woman!!!

Hope you all had a good fun filled day!

Hi Jewdee three. We don't realize it at first, but there is such a thing out there as frosting that contains gluten  Oh, the traps for the unwary!!! Hope that wasn't the case for you, but if it was you know where it came from

Betty Crocker chocolate cake or gluten-free Pantry are easy ways to make a cupcake for yourself. Don't go eating off the top, side or anywhere near a glutinous baked good! Also, good brownie mixes - add Kraft caramel bits, M&ms, chips, nuts.

Gets a bit easier as you get used to it. I found dark chocolate sun butter cups at Whole Foods. To me, those are better than a lot of baked goods. Find what is special to you, and take it along. I always have a Snickers bar in my purse.

I saw where Crayon was dropping off alligators at her neighbor's house in Kansas City again. Police say she does it a couple times a year, nothing new. I guess she waits until they are dangerous and then releases them on the public. Gads! A she-devil fer sure! :o:blink::D

Jooday Jooday, Joooday! Yeah, them little balloons were prolly either made with some form of gluten or were cc'd in the kitchen with all the flowers around. Gots to get yourself an emergency kit of treats for trips out of the Fortress of Solitude. Some Larabars or some Halvah, or maybe some sesame seed treats. Easy to carry small snacks where the bad guys can't find them are good.

That's so cute? You can hear the babies purring.

Just to clarify: I would never put an alligator out in the cold.. A teenager or a hub maybe, but not a poor alligator.

Hang in there Judy!!! If you scroll up yesterday Jess and Patti gave me a bunch of recipes to make for my company. I wound up making the apple crumble. There is a discussion group on cooking under forums and many different threads can be found there. I plan on getting together a bunch of Spanish recipes to share (Klark's family is from Spain originally - wonder if they knew he's become Superman). Just have to get my act together.

Thanks guys. I'm just so ANGRY!!! (car was broken into last night). I hope whoever it was really needed my new winter coat. I suppose that would make me feel a bit better. Woulda felt a LOT better if they hadn't stole the garage door opener. Thankful though, that they didn't use it last night.

I went to bed last night in a huge stress ball. I layed quietly for a while deep breathing and praying to God that He would give me peace and calmness to deal with the stress of the next few days and I wake up to THIS?!?!?! What did I DOOOOOOOO???????

I hope the rest of you are having an amazing Friday!!!

Oh, Rah-shyellle.. . . . .....  :(

How awful. Nothing feels worse, being broken into and having things taken... . . ..I will never forget that feeling -- our old house was broken into many years ago, and we were cleaned out.....everything that could be carried, even my paintings off the wall. Turned out to be our next-door neighboUr, but we discovered this a couple of days after he suddenly moved away. It's the most sick feeling, R... . . ..I hope they get them!

While plain, pure tea leaves (black, green, or white) are naturally gluten-free, the issue often lies not with the tea itself but with other ingredients or processing. Many flavored teas use barley malt or other gluten-containing grains as a flavoring agent, which would be clearly listed on the ingredient label. Cross-contamination is another possibility, either in the facility where the tea is processed or, surprisingly, from the tea bag material itself—some tea bags are sealed with a wheat-based glue. Furthermore, it's important to consider that your reaction could be to other substances in tea, such as high levels of tannins, which can be hard on the stomach, or to natural histamines or other compounds that can cause a non-celiac immune response. The best way to investigate is to carefully read labels for hidden ingredients, try switching to a certified gluten-free tea brand that uses whole leaf or pyramid-style bags, and see if the reaction persists.

This is a challenging and confusing situation. The combination of a positive EMA—which is a highly specific marker rarely yielding false positives—alongside strongly elevated TTG on two separate occasions, years apart, is profoundly suggestive of celiac disease, even in the absence of biopsy damage. This pattern strongly aligns with what is known as "potential celiac disease," where the immune system is clearly activated, but intestinal damage has not yet become visible under the microscope. Your concern about the long-term risk of continued gluten consumption is valid, especially given your family's experience with the consequences of delayed diagnosis. Since your daughter is now at an age where her buy-in is essential for a gluten-free lifestyle, obtaining a definitive answer is crucial for her long-term adherence and health. Given that she is asymptomatic yet serologically positive, a third biopsy now, after a proper 12-week challenge, offers the best chance to capture any microscopic damage that may have developed, providing the concrete evidence needed to justify the dietary change. This isn't about wanting her to have celiac; it's about wanting to prevent the insidious damage that can occur while waiting for symptoms to appear, and ultimately giving her the unambiguous "why" she needs to accept and commit to the necessary treatment. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. One test that always needs to be done is the IgA Levels/Deficiency Test (often called "Total IGA") because some people are naturally IGA deficient, and if this is the case, then certain blood tests for celiac disease might be false-negative, and other types of tests need to be done to make an accurate diagnosis. The article includes the "Mayo Clinic Protocol," which is the best overall protocol for results to be ~98% accurate.

Welcome to the community! Generally, for a gluten challenge before celiac disease blood tests, Tylenol (acetaminophen) is considered safe and should not interfere with your antibody results. The medications you typically need to avoid are those like ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve) that can cause intestinal irritation, which could potentially complicate the interpretation of an endoscopy if you were to have one. However, it is absolutely crucial that you confirm this with either your gastroenterologist or your surgeon before your procedure. They know the specifics of your case and can give you the definitive green light, ensuring your surgery is comfortable and your celiac testing remains accurate. Best of luck with your surgery tomorrow

Thank you for the advice. I’ve actually never checked for nutritional deficiencies, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve always taken vitamin and mineral supplements — otherwise my symptoms get worse. This week I stopped eating gluten to confirm whether my symptoms are really caused by it. Starting next week, I’ll reintroduce gluten — it’s sad to go back to how I was before — but at least I’ll be able to take the necessary tests properly. I think the diagnostic process will be long, but at least I’m happy that I finally decided to address this doubt I’ve had for years.
