I have the company option of getting a Costco membership at a discount and after looking around, it seems like gluten-city.

I was wondering, what gluten-free people buy there. Anyone?

We buy a LOT of stuff at Costco. Not everything I eat has to be a "gluten free-by-design specialty item!). Here's what we buy (the list is long).

Fresh fruits/vegetables/berries

Pacific Organic Soups (gluten-free marked ones such as Roasted Red Pepper Tomato)

Salad Dressings (when they have gluten-free ones by label)

Mayonnaise/ketchup/spices/salt/pepper

Costco has wonderful gluten-free items. Mrs. Mays Trio Bars are also great. Franceen's list is great because there are so many other items that are already gluten-free.

What about Kirkland Plain Soy Milk? Its label doesn't say and it has a few mystery ingredients like "natural flavoring" and "vanilla flavor". We have it at work...

I love the fact that I could find a thread on Costco! This forum is great.

I like their meats! I get this enormous roasts and cut them into 2 pound chunks and freeze them for use later. I also like their rotisserie chicken. I get coffee there too. And I pick up electronics, kitchen gadgets, stuff like that. Their produce is pretty good too!

Costco's has chicken meatballs that are gluten-free from Casual Gourmet. Our kids love them. I found them in the deli where the floor coolers are with the cheeses... They also have wild caught alaskan salmon in the freezer & canned bear wolf salmon from Alaska. Several other fish products . Delimex taquitos gluten-free too. Many Contadins tomato products as well.

Costco has a few target stores that are being test marketed with Naked Nuggets made by Bromberg Bros. gluten-free.... thigns are looki' up for our gluten-free lifestyle....

I emailed Costco about the Kirkland Vanilla soymilk and it is gluten free.

Ok guys...you convinced me. I'm leaving my house in 15 minutes to get a membership. I could use the eggs, every gluten free bread type recipe calls for 4 eggs! :lol:

You all forgot about the CLOTHES you can get at Costco!!! :) You can NOT beat that! Also, I can tell you that here in Chicago they have a gluten free contact person if you call the store. They have a continuouslu updated list of gluten free items and are quick to check on ANY item you have a question about. Their baby wipes are gluten-free (I use them to clean up everything!), rotisserie chicken, trail mix....it just keeps going. They are MUCH faster than any company I have dealt with in responding to a gluten-free question about any product.

Well, I got my Costco card. I called them again with a new found hope of gluten free friendliness. I was terribly disappointed. This rude lady informed me that they don't have a gluten free list nor do they have a gluten disclosure policy. When I mentioned that it would be nice if they would list all gluten in the ingredients she told me that they are not required to do so. <_< This statement really annoys me because we all do things we are not required to do, even companies like Kraft, General Mills, Unilever and MANY more disclose gluten! When I told her that I would not likely buy many of their private label products, her response was too bad because many of them are gluten free. How am I supposed to know? Go through the store and write bar code numbers? I'd much rather buy from companies I trust.

Other than that I like Costco. :rolleyes:

I emailed them and asked for a list and they responded that they do not have a list but if I had questions on specific items they could get me the info. So far I have only asked about the soy milk.

Who did you email? Their website doesn't seem to be very helpful with directing for emailing questions about their products. Or else I am too impatient digging through their site for help.

I would like to know if anyone is fine eating the Kirkland brand Chicken in the can... the ones near the tuna cans...?

Thank you so much for the email address! I emailed them to find out about their canned chicken. I have tried it a few times and didn't feel well after but it's been a long time and it could have been something else I ate at the time.

I ate a bag of those (yes, the costco size) in 2 days. No, I didn't feel good about myself, but, darn, those chips are tasty! :P

For your information.... the Kirkland Signature brand canned "Premium chunk Chicken Breast" (packed in water) IS gluten free.

I emailed them and receive this response:

"Thank you for your email to Costco Wholesale.

Yes, it is gluten free.

I just called their member services number: 800-774-2678.

The woman on the phone wasn't very helpful. She said that they don't have a list of gluten-free items. I asked if they had any frozen fish that were gluten-free. She said that the only help she can give is requests about one specific food item at a time. Also, you need the product number of the item for them to be able to help at all. IF I can supply them with that information, then they can send in a request into the products department and in five days they might be able to tell me if the item contains gluten or not. Needless to say, that's not very helpful. I also sent in the same request in email form so we'll see if that produces better results.

I read on the Celiac in San Diego website that they are starting to label their Kirkland products "no gluten". Here's that website: Open Original Shared Link The woman on the phone couldn't verify that information.

I have to admit, this is the first unhelpful experience of customer service I've experienced at Costco. Everything else has been great.

We were at Costco again recently and I saw a few things that might be gluten-free so did some homework. One was the Jenni-O tequila lime turkey tenderloins.

:o Hi , I just called them today as well, same thing, Mam we can't help you, you have to give us the bar code then we will call you back, and guess what Trader Joes called back with in 15 minutes! They also acted like I was a pain in the neck. The thing is that " Artificial flavouring is bad for you" and " Natural flavouring is either gluten free or not and what is worse is that their fresh fruit like their green apples are sprayed with somekind of oil that I probably should stay away from. i think that they are serving the people who think they get more for there money but are you really getting more if you : never can find anyone to help , they are rude, they usually answer with I don't know, so what good does that do me? I asked them so are you saying I should go to the store buy all the food stuff it in my fridge then call you and read you the bar code and hope thet you answer me truthfully. So I asked them to emil me ( So that I have it in writing) " Sorry mam I do not have access to a computer.

I wonder how honest they are? <_< I do not know? I need to see their Gluten Free list in Writing.

      Awaiting Biopsy results

      I have had my endoscopy this morning with biopsies. My consultant said that it looked like I did have coeliac disease from what he could see. I now have to wait 3 weeks for the biopsy results. Do I continue eating gluten till my follow appointment in three weeks.

Perhaps could be residual inflammation and bloating that is causing sensitivity in that area.  I was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2013 and I remember some years ago my sister telling me around that time that she had a lady in her church, also a coeliac, who  had real pain when she turned her torso in a certain direction whilst doing exercises, but otherwise was responding well to the gluten-free diet. As far as I know is still the picture of health. I often end up with pain in various parts of my gut if I eat too much rich food or certain types of fibre (for some reasons walnuts make my gut hurt, and rice cakes!) and and as a rule, the pain usually hangs around for a number of days, maybe up to a week.   When I bend over or turn, I can feel it.  I think this is actually due to my other diagnosis of IBS, for years I thought I had a rumbling appendix but I think it must have just been IBS.  Reading the experiences of other sufferers, it seems quite typical.  Sensitized gut, build up of gas - it stands to reason that the extra pressure of turning can increase the pain. When I am glutened I get a burning, gnawing pain in my stomach on and off for some days - it isn't constant, but it can take up a few hours of the day.  I believe this to be gastritis, but it seems to hurt irrespective of movement.   Anyway, you are doing the right thing to seek a professional opinion, though, so do let us know how you get on.   Meanwhile, might I suggest you drink peppermint tea, or try slices of fresh ginger in hot water? A lot of IBS sufferers say the former is very helpful in relieving cramps, etc, and the latter is very soothing on the stomach. Cristiana

Since then I havent been nauseous anymore at all, but the pain has stayed and it always worsens the moment i start moving. The more I move the more it hurts, and when i rest longer it seems to dissapear (no movement). I've had this before, but years ago I think around when I first got diagnosed with coeliac, where each time I moved, my stomach would hurt, to the point where I went to the ER because doctors got freaked out. That only lasted 1 night though, and Now it's already wednesday, so 3 days since then, but the pain persists and remains leveled. it doesn't get crazy intense, but it's still uncomfortable to the point I cant really go out because Im afraid itll turn into a giant flare up again. I couldn't think of where I could possibly have been glutened at this bad of a level and why it hasn't passed yet. I went to the GP, and as long as I have no fever and the pain isnt insane then its fine which I havent had yet. Tomorrow im also seeing a gastroenterologist specialized in IBS and coeliac for the first time finally in years, but I thought I'd ask on here anyway because it still hasnt dissapeared. It also hurts when someone presses on it. Maybe it's just really inflamed/irritated. I'm just frustrated because I'm missing out on my uni lectures and I do a sports bachelor, so I can't get behind on stuff & next to that i'm also going to go to the beach with my boyfriend's family this weekend: (

      Hi. So sorry to hear about your shingles. There is a lidocaine cream that you can get at Walmart that will help numb the pain.  That's what I used for mine. It can't be put near your eyes or in your ears. I hope your doctor gave you valacyclovir which is an antiviral.  It does lessen the symptoms. If it is in your eyes,  see an ophthalmologist.  They have an antiviral eye drop that can be prescribed.  Shingles in the eye could cause blindness.  I was unsure whether you have celiac or not.  If you do,  follow the diet.  I believe that extra stress on your body does affect everything. Shingles can recur. If you start getting the warning signs of nerves tingling,  see the dr and start taking the valacyclovir to prevent a breakout. If I sound technical,  I am a retired pharmacist.
