Ok, so whether you enjoy Martha Stewart or not this is a GREAT idea. If you are sick of the small selection of Gluten Free and Allergen Free recipe books and magazines, this is the time to DO something about it!!! Martha Stewart is holding a company wide competition for her employees to choose one "BIG IDEA" to fund. One of her seven finalists has suggested a magazine which focuses of allergen free recipes and diet tips and articles, the first issue of which focusing on CELIAC DISEASE! Yeah! AWARENESS!!! Fans must vote now to choose what big idea wins, so VOTE NOW! How great would that be? A QUALITY magazine with lots of photos and articles and recipes, with a place on her website! I am not a huge fan of Martha, but this is a GREAT Big Idea! The best professionals in the industry working on recipes and tips WE can use! Lets make it win!

From Martha Stewart's Site:

THE BIG IDEA IS A COMPANY-WIDE COMPETITION THAT GIVES STAFF MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE THEIR OWN IDEAS FOR THE FUTURE OF MARTHA STEWART LIVING OMNIMEDIA. I WAS ABLE TO NARROW THE 40 ENTRIES DOWN TO 7 FINALISTS...BUT I JUST COULDN'T CHOOSE A WINNER...SO I'D LIKE YOU TO HELP ME DECIDE. HERE'S A SUMMARY OF THE PROPOSALS FROM OUR 2008 BIG IDEA FINALISTS!

Alexis, Deputy Home Editor

Special publication catering to those with food allergies and sensitivities that would include recipes

Big Idea: To publish a special magazine that offers delicious allergy-friendly recipes, making life for people with food allergies and sensitivities easier and more delicious. Millions of people, including myself, can't eat nuts, dairy, wheat or gluten, and I

I'm a huge pet lover as well, but I totally agree, there are so many different pet publications. I voted for the allergy one of course and it was winning but not by a whole bunch so please go vote! There are so many different allergies/food sensitivites that I believe this would have a huge readership, especially if done by Martha Stewart.

To my email buddies: All of you know that I rarely send out "mass" emails or jokes or stuff like that. I get them, read them and sometimes pass them along, but that's rare for me.

Today's email is to ask you to go into the Martha Stewart magazine site and vote on behalf of me and my husband that her magazine should add more information about food allergies and food intolerances.

As many of you know, Mike has been suffering with this for many, many years and I can attest there's just not enough information or publications out there about it. the General Public is so in the dark about Celiac Disease.

So your help in voting on this would be most appreciated by all celiacs like Mike. Perhaps if there was more publications about food intolerances, more restaurants and food manufacturers would be more agreeable to make their products "gluten free." And as a result there would be more food choices and restaurants for celiacs like Mike to go to - and the further result would be that we could finally take a vacation after so many years as restaurants would be more aware of food intolerances and be able to handle providing "gluten free" meals.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and making a "vote."

Just a sample of what I am emailing to my friends and relatives...... I want to push these numbers even higher.

I just voted again! We're only up 1% now to the pet mag. I don't much care for Martha Stewart, but a magazine for folks like us might help to change my opinion!

My celiac support group sent this around to the members last night in an email. I voted then and Pet Lovers was at 37% and the Food Allergies was at 36%, this morning, the Food Allergies is at 54% and Pet Lovers has dropped down to 28%--it's looking good for us. Now let's hope they do a good article covering celiac. You would think with a member of her staff being a celiac, she could have done an article without a vote.

I just voted 54%

I think there should be a vote to get Martha a new computer monitor. That's one piece of junk she's using in the picture of her "taking time from her very busy day to vote".

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
