Ok, I know this is a small achievement but it feels HUGE to me. Only 4 days gluten free and for the first morning in a year and a half (maybe 2 years) and I didn't have "D" this morning! I know it's tmi, but it's not like I can make this my Facebook status update and I HAD to tell someone! LOL

I am untested for gluten allergies or Celiac so I have a call into my Dr. to see if she thinks I should do the Celiac tests or if I should just continue going Gluten Free to see if this is my ticket to gastro freedom. Since I'm only 4 days gluten free, I could always revert back to gluten this early on if she thinks I should be tested for Celiac.

UPDATE: I jumped to celebration too soon. :( My "D" did not leave me today. It was just delayed by a few hours. I should've known better. I had the stomach cramping and all the signs that this mornings trips to the bathroom would eventually be the return of the big "D". I've spent 4 days pouring through all details and the trials and tribulations that you all have been through of trying to recover and I should have known that success would not come in as few as 4 days. Disappointed? Yes. Discouraged? No. I'm still going to give it my all.

That's a really good sign. If you are going to get tested get back on gluten today. If you can stick with the diet without a doctors diagnosis then just stay off it and heal.

I still have a lot of abdominal cramping/bloating and discomfort so I haven't stumbled onto the cure all yet (well just haven't given it enough time yet). My plan was sticking with Gluten Free for at least the next 3 months.

I just got off the phone with my Dr's nurse. He's going to talk to her. He (the nurse) gave me the ok on Friday to try gluten free and did NOT ask the Dr. first. GRRRRRR I asked him then to dig through my records and determine what I've been tested for. He was able to tell me that my biopsy results from last week were in. I was negative for colon cancer (from the polyp) and the large intestine biopsies showed negative for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. I didn't even know until today what they were checking for.

I made the decision after joining this board to not keep my head in the sand but to be more involved in finding out what's wrong with me and what I'm being tested for. I asked the nurse specifically about Celiac Blood Panel and he's going to check to see if I've been tested and if not he will ask my Dr. what she thinks. If she wants me tested, I'm still in this gluten free thing early enough that I don't mind going back off to help with an accurate diagnosis. BUT I will not be willing to go back to gluten in a few weeks for testing after having invested that much time and effort. They need to decide now if they want to test me or not.

In the meantime, no "D" this morning was so uplifting that it's made me more determined than ever to keep going with this Gluten Free diet to see if my other symptoms will slowly fall by the wayside as well. I have "HOPE" now and I have never had that before.

Welcome to the gluten free world :) Many of us know we have a problem and have had to float around in the purgatory of "non-diagnosed" (whatever-your-current-doctor-thinks-it-might-be), and then go gluten free based on a hunch... whether it's diagnosed or not, it's great to feel better, and good for you for not losing heart!!

I hope you continue to feel better.

Has anyone mentioned to you that many with gluten intolerance also have problems eating dairy for awhile after going gluten free, until some of the damage heals? If you keep having stomach issues you might try losing dairy, too, just to see if that helps.

Do be sure to protect yourself from all the many sources of CC that we often don't think of in the beginning. Things like needing new pans if the others are scratched, new colander, toaster and cutting board. Not baking with flour for others. A check of all meds and supplements and be aware that barley and wheat grass are not safe even if the label says gluten free.

It does take some time to heal and hopefully you will hear back soon as to whether or not you have had the celiac panels yet. If you are going to have testing do go back on gluten as you want the best chance you can get of accurate tests.

I just heard back from my GI doc. She said my primary doc ran a celiac panel one year ago. I called my primary doc and his nice nurse just emailed me the results, which I'll paste after this.

I don't know if I should start a new topic or just keep this one running. I love the support I've already received from this board and I'm SO confused! My doc when asked if I can go on a gluten free diet she said "yes but don't go full board. You do not have Celiac". She's basing this on my one year ago blood panel. When I mentioned to her nurse that there are a lot of false negatives he said "yes I know, but you can't tell "HER" that". All of her nurses are afraid of her. She's treats me (patients) well but supposedly is a terror to work for. She goes through nurses quickly and 2 now have confided in me that she's a bit... ummmmm mean.

Just because your celiac panel was negative a year ago doesn't mean it will be negative today. Ask to be retested if you need a diagnosis before you go gluten free. If you don't feel you need a firm diagnosis then continue on the diet strictly and see what happens.

I would also ask that they run the DGP IgA and IgG (Deamidated Gliadin Peptide). Newer test, seems to be better??

I will definitely ask them to. They are considering repeating the panel. I may go to my primary care for it since he is SO nice and thorough.

I don't pick out a Total IgA in that list, make sure they include that on the re test

If black seed oil is working for his Afib, stick to it, but if not, I can say that ablation therapy is no big deal--my mother was out of the procedure in about 1 hour and went home that evening, and had zero negative effects from the treatment. PS - I would recommend that your husband get an Apple watch to monitor his Afib--there is an app and it will take readings 24/7 and give reports on how much of the time he's in it. Actual data like this should be what should guide his treatment.

This happened to me as well. What’s weirder is that within a couple hours of taking paxlovid it subsided. I thought maybe I got glutened but after reading your post not so sure.

Hi Tiffany. Thank you for writing your dituation and  circumstancesin such detail and so well writte, too. I particularly noticed what you wrote about brain for and feeling like your brain is swelling and I know from my own experiences that's how it feel and your brain really does swell and you get migraines.    Way back when I was in my 20s I read a book by 2 MD allergist and they described their patient who came in complaining that her brain, inside her cranium, was swelling  and it happened when she smelled a certain chemical she used in her home. She kept coming back and insisting her brain actually swelled in her head. The Drs couldn't explain this problem so they, with her permission, performed an operation where they made a small opening through her cranium, exposed her to the chemical then watched as she brain did swell into the opening. The DRs were amazed but then were able to advise her to avoid chemicals that made her brain swell. I remember that because I occasionally had brain fog then but it was not a serious problem. I also realized that I was becoming more sensitive to chemicals I used in my work in medical laboratories. By my mid forties the brain fog and chemicals forced me to leave my  profession and move to a rural area with little pollution. I did not have migraines. I was told a little later that I had a more porous blood brain barrier than other people. Chemicals in the air would go up into my sinused and leak through the blood brain barrier into my brain. We have 2 arteries  in our neck that carry blood with the nutrients and oxygen into the brain. To remove the fluids and used blood from the brain there are only capillaries and no large veins to carry it away so all those fluids ooze out much more slowly than they came in and since the small capillaries can't take care of extra fluid it results in swelling in the face, especially around the eyes. My blood flow into my brain is different from most other people as I have an arterial ischema, adefectiveartery on one side.   I have to go forward about 20 or more years when I learned that I had glaucoma, an eye problem that causes blindness and more years until I learned I had celiac disease.  The eye Dr described my glaucoma as a very slow loss of vision that I wouldn't  notice until had noticeable loss of sight.  I could have my eye pressure checked regularly or it would be best to have the cataracts removed from both eyes. I kept putting off the surgery then just overnight lost most of the vision in my left eye. I thought at the I had been exposed to some chemical and found out a little later the person who livedbehind me was using some chemicals to build kayaks in a shed behind my house. I did not realize the signifance  of this until I started having appointments with a Dr. in a new building. New buildings give me brain fog, loss of balance and other problems I know about this time I experienced visual disturbances very similar to those experienced by people with migraines. I looked further online and read that people with glaucoma can suffer rapid loss of sight if they have silent migraines (no headache). The remedy for migraines is to identify and avoid the triggers. I already know most of my triggers - aromatic chemicals, some cleaning materials, gasoline and exhaust and mold toxins. I am very careful about using cleaning agents using mostly borax and baking powder. Anything that has any fragrance or smell I avoid. There is one brand of dishwashing detergent that I can use and several brands of  scouring powder. I hope you find some of this helpful and useful. I have not seen any evidence that Celiac Disease is involved with migraines or glaucoma. Please come back if you have questions or if what I wrote doesn't make senseto you. We sometimes haveto learn by experience and finding out why we have some problems. Take care.       The report did not mention migraines.

Hi Jmartes71 That is so much like my story! You probably know where Laytonville is and that's where I was living just before my 60th birthday when the new Dr. suggested I could have Celiacs. I didn't go on a gluten challange diet before having the Celiac panel blood test drawn. The results came back as equivical as one antibody level was very high but another, tissue transaminasewas normal. Itdid show I was  allergic to cows milk and I think hot peppers. I immediately went gluten free but did not go in for an endoscopy. I found an online lab online that would do the test to show if I had a main celiac gene (enterolab.com). The report came back that I had inherited a main celiac gene, DQ8, from one parent and a D!6 from the other parent. That combination is knows to sym[tons of celiac worse than just inheriting one main celiac gene. With my version of celiac disease I was mostly constipated but after going gluten-free I would have diarrhea the few times I was glutened either by cross contamination or eating some food containing gluten. I have stayed gluten-free for almost 20 years now and knew within a few days that it was right for me although my recovery has been slow.   When I go to see a  medical provide and tell them I have celiacs they don't believe me. The same when I tell them that I carry a main celiac gene, the DQ8. It is only when I tell them that I get diarrhea after eating gluten that they realize that I might have celiac disease. Then they will order th Vitamin B12 and D3 that I need to monitor as my B12 levels can go down very fast if I'm not taking enough of it. Medical providers haven't been much help in my recovery. They are not well trained in this problem. I really hope this helps ypu. Take care.
