Igg Intolerance Testing?

Hi everyone!

I'm just wondering if anyone has experience here with intolerance tests? I'm having trouble with my leaky gut which is making me intolerant to many foods and I am rotating and keeping a food diary, but I am still getting worse. I recently got a meridian stress test which tested for food sensitivities and it showed I was sensitive to all grains (including ones i haven't eaten) and it said I was fine with several things I swear I'm intolerant to like peanuts, dairy and bananas. I'm really confused! I'm scared my leaky gut will never heal because I can't tell what I'm intolerant to and I keep getting mixed info from everywhere!... The only tests for intolerances I have found in Australia are an elisa test that costs $800 and a hair test which I am not sure will be accurate. If anyone can help me with intolerance tests they've tried or recommend some in Australia or even internationally I would really appreciate it!

I'm sorry, can't help. My intolerance testing was good old trial and error. I tried it and if I didn't tolerate it it was an error :D

Lol no worries! I was doing the whole trial and error thing at first and I was healing pretty well! Then my gut just randomly went out of control and hasn't really improved since  it's probably something else going on, but I'm still very worried that my intolerances will keep me from healing if I solve it

I have had both the blood and hair tests done. Daughter and I both loved the hair test! Caught things that the blood test didn't test for. Like herbs.

I'm not in Australia. However, I have had 3 different panels of the ELISA test. The first (100 commonly eaten foods) found my cane sugar and egg intolerances (IgG reactions). I still had symptoms. So I took the vegan panel, but had no significant reactions. So I took the herb/spice panel and discovered I reacted strongly to vanilla and nutmegs. I'm soooo glad I used ELISA. My intolerances (IgG and IgA reactions) are all ingredients in baked goods and processed foods. I would have never guessed all those or even been able to isolate all those with elimination tests. Yes, I had to pay outa pocket, because my HMO didn't cover those tests. However, i consider those test results well worth the money, because that shortened my journey to health. I aIso had to endure 4 years of gut bug infections (8 total but not all at once) before I found an NP who tested me for hypothyroidism, which explained my other symptoms.

Thanks a lot guys! I think I might try the hair test :) i would prefer the elisa but iit's a bit too expensive for me and the cheaper ones i find don't cover enough food. Hopefully it will work and I'll be able to start healing soon!

The hair test is a good one, so I've heard, I didn't have it. I had the ELISA 96 food panel done and it showed quite a bit. I've been able to add some of it back in slowly, but also had to avoid some things that were previously okay. The research shows that the reliability of these tests isn't very good and the only true way to know is an elimination diet. Eat only whole foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and meats for a few weeks and then add one other food item at a time and keep track of your reactions. The things I've learned about intolerance tests are they are always changing. If you tested every month, you would get different results, depending on what you've eaten. I have a celiac friend who has been gluten free for over a year, retested and gluten showed up as okay, but only because there had been none in her system for so long. I'm not knocking the testing, I've had some done as well, but really the only true way is to test each food yourself and see what happens. Best of luck to you.

I have never seen any scientific evidence that hair testing works. Before you spend your money, you might want to see if they are legit. Remember, a website trying to sell you something, in this case a " test", is not going to have objective scientific evidence. Same with these stool testing places that refuse to let their methods be peer reviewed.

I am writing from Canada, so can`t help on Specifics like testing in your country...but I have a suggestion.

Have you looked into or considered other causes for your trouble? My husband was fine one day, down 30 lbs and weak and had diarrhea the next.. then fine again for a while and ... repeat. Everything he ate or didn`t eat seemed to give him trouble. After much testing the dr`s found a bacterial infection called H plylori. As soon as it was treated he started to feel like his old self.

I am just sugessting, food intolerance may be a SYMPTOM of an underlying issue. have you been tested for bacterial infection, viral infection, parasites, or other possible causes?

In my case, the first thing we checked was to make sure i didn`t get hubby`s bacteria, when that came back neg... we began to follow the food intolerance trail.

Hello, I'm also in Australia and been waiting a while to see an allergy/immune specialist for testing, I finally have my first appointment in 10 days but I've been not well for around 20 years so I'm looking forward to that. I've been doing a lot of research on the testing and as far as I know the immunocap test costs $350 with no rebates and you can also have a RAST test done through your local pathology for any 4 chosen allergens for $90 after rebate? I believe. The immunocap test is the one l'll be going for since it's a IgE antibody test against 100 things and at $350 that's a better deal, my IgE levels are very high (40 times over the limit) , I'm sure I'm naturally very sensitive to allergins and technically atopic but I also seem to have tons and tons of food allergies, I'm thinking the major problem is milk protein and grains but at the same time I went 7 years strictly eating no dairy and still was having a constant reaction to something at that time so there are multiple problems. The immune level test (IgA, IgG, IgM, IgE) is free and if you haven't had that maybe you can put that on your list of things to test. I came up fine on most of those, the IgG level was slightly high but the IgE was the one that got my doctors excited since they finally found something that was far enough out of whack to cause my other weird symptoms.

I've also had a couple of parasite antibody tests which are a blood test and also free, there's many parasite antibody tests your doctor can have done free of charge, I feel it was certainly worth doing the helicobacter test since that causes a lot of allergy problems but I didn't have it. in the meantime I'm taking fairly heavy doses of anti parasite drugs to rule a few more things out. I've been on the antifungal diflucan which helped but I didn't still get my gut flora rebalanced although my digestion is greatly improved!. I'm also taking the anti histamine Zyrtec which as all but stopped any stomach pain I had on eating foods. The bad thing is that it's let me eat almost anything I normally have problems with and only going to the toilet once a day instead of 5 :P, great for gaining weight, but not at all not good for lowering my IgE levels.

I'm probably going to have to go on a really serious elimination diet at some stage where I only eat one thing and supplemented with amino acids but first I want to have that immunocap test. I've eaten whole foods only for months and not seen any real improvements, well only if I go almost 100% protein free, then I do improve, but that in the long term just makes things worse.

Here is a web page regarding some of the costs in Australia Open Original Shared Link

And a little more info on the standard immunocap test here Open Original Shared Link

You can also read this

Open Original Shared Link

They can do hundreds more allergens than the standard test has but I'm not sure if those are all available in the Australian labs, this is the test that to me makes sense because it's a numbers game and real numbers and real antibodies get me more excited than degrees of rashes on my skin

good luck!

So I recently had allergy testing for IGE antibodies in response to foods. My test results came back positive to corn, white potatoes, egg whites. Tomatoes, almonds and peanuts to name a few.  I have had obvious reactions to a few of these - particularly tomatoes and corn- both GI issues. I don’t really understand all this allergy versus celiac stuff. If the food allergies are mild do I have to avoid these foods entirely? I don’t know what I will eat if I can’t  have corn based gluten free products

Geography makes a difference.  I'm in the West and Trader Joe's gluten-free bread tastes great and is a better price than most gluten-free breads sold elsewhere in my area.

We have four children (7-14 yo), and our 7 year old was diagnosed with NCGS (though all Celiac labs were positive, her scope at 4 years old was negative so docs in the US won't call it celiac). We have started her on a Gluten Free diet after 3 years of major digestive issues and ruling out just about everything under the sun. Our home and kitchen and myself are all gluten-free. But I have not asked my husband/her dad or her other siblings to go completely gluten-free with us. They are at home, but not out of the home. This has led to situations when we are eating out where she has to consistently see others eating things she can't have and she has begun to say "Well, I can't have <fill in the blank>...stupid gluten."  How have you supported your gluten-free kiddos in the mental health space of this journey, especially young ones like her. I know it's hard for me as an adult sometimes to miss out, so I can't imagine being 7 and dealing with it! Any tips or ideas to help with this?

By the time I was 5 I had my first auto0immune disorder, Migraine headaches, with auras to blind me, and vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound. I was 5 years old, and my stepfather would have pizza night, milling his own flour, making thick cheesy gluten pizza, that I would eat and the next day, I would have serious migraines, and my mother & stepfather did nothing about my medical problems. When I was 17 in my first year at college, I was diagnosed with my 2nd known auto-immune disorder, Meniere's disease. I was a elite athlete, a swimmer, and soccer player. And once again my parents didn't think anything of understanding why I had a disorder only older people get. Now after my mother passed from Alzheimer's disease she also suffered with living with gluten. She had a rash for 30 years that nobody could diagnose. She was itchy for 45 years total. My brother had a encapsulated virus explodes in his spleen and when this happened his entire intestines were covered with adhesions, scar tissue and he almost lost his life. He has 5 daughters, and when I finally was diagnosed after being pregnant and my body went into a cytokine storm, I lost my chance to have children, I ended up having Hashimoto's disease, Degenerative Disc disease, and my body started to shut down during my first trimester. I am 6ft tall and got down to 119lbs. My husband and I went to a special immunologist in Terrace, California. They took 17 vials of blood as we flew there for a day and returned home that evening. In 3 weeks, we had the answer, I have Celiac disease. Once this was known, only my father and husband made efforts to change their way of feeding me. At the family cabin, my stepfather & mother were more worried that I would ruin Thanksgiving Dinner. It wasn't until one of my cousins was diagnosed with Celiac disease. They finally looked into getting Gluten Free flour and taking measures to limit "gluten" in meals. He did nothing but ask for me to pay for my own food and wi-fi when I came to the cabin to stay after our house burned down. When he informed my mother, they proceeding to get into a physical fight and she ended up with a black eye. The is just more trauma for me. Sam had no interest in telling the truth about what he wanted. He lied to my mother that he had asked my husband if I could pay for "food" when he asked Geoffrey if I had money to pay for my wi-fi. My mother hates when he spends so much time on the computer so he lied and said I could pay for my own food. I will remind you I weighed 119lbs at this time. (At 6ft) that is a very sick looking person. Neither parent was worried about my weight, they just fought about how cheap my stepfather was. As my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2014. He had her sign over the will to a trust and added his children. He had no testimonial capacity at the time, so she signed without proper papers. Making this Trust null and void. When I gave my brother my childhood home, my mother stated I would be getting an equal part of inheritance to the house on Race. It currently worth 2.0 million $. I got nothing, and my stepfather has since disowned me b/c of my claim and he knows that my mother would never have left it uneven between my biological brother and myself. She sat me and my husband down, as we lived at the Race Street house and treated and took care of it as our own. My brother took over b/c he was going through a horrific divorce and needed a home so he could get a better custody deal with his soon to be ex-wife who was a Assist DA for Denver. She used the girls against him, and he & I were the primary caregivers. We, Judd and I spent the most time with them pre the divorce. Once Judd moved into the house, he threw all of my mother, grandmother and my family heirlooms out to the Goodwill. Nobody told my mother about this as she was going through cancer treatment and had Alzheimer's disease in her mother and her sister. My stepfather and biological brother took advantage of this matter, as I called a "family council" that my brother just never could make it to at the last moment. All of the furnishing, kitchen ware, everything was in the house my brother just moved into. He had had 2 weddings, I chose to elope b/c my stepfather ruined my brother's first wedding by talking about his relationship with my brother in front of my dad and his entire family, insulting him and having my grandfather leave the ceremony. It was a disaster. My stepfather just plays dumb and blames my father for the slight. I was the only child not to have a wedding. So, my mother and stepfather never had to pay for a thing. My mother had had an agreement with my father he'd pay for college and all medical issues with their kids, myself and Judd. So truly my mother never had to pay for anything big for me in her entire life. I am looking for anyone that has had a similar story, where they grew up in a household that had a baker that regularly milled flour and ate gluten. What happened to you? DId you suffer from different auto-immune diseases b/c of living with a baker using "gluten" Please let me know. I have been looking into legal ways to get my stepfather to give me what my mother had promised, and he erased. Thank you for listening to my story. Jane Donnelly

Possibly gluten withdrawal. Lot's of info on the internet about it. Somewhat controversial but apparently gluten plugs into the same neuro sensors as opiates do and some people get a similar type withdrawal as they do when quitting opiates. Another issue is that gluten-free facsimile flours are not fortified with vitamins and minerals as is wheat flour (in the U.S. at least) so when the switch is made to gluten-free facsimile foods, especially if a lot of processed gluten-free foods are being used as substitutes, vitamin and mineral deficiencies can result. There is also the possibility that she has picked up a virus or some but that is totally unrelated to going gluten-free.
