ARCHIVED Severe Depression/ Thyroid Issues Linked To Celiac Disease?
GFinDC replied to keithceliac2010's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Any thing you ingest will have a tendency to be better absorbed after going gluten-free and healing your gut. So thyroid meds may need to be decreased after gluten-free. -
The sandblasting should be more than enough to get rid of any gluten. You don't have to worry about pores opening and gluten getting stuck in them either. Cast iron pans have a textured surface generally and that texture with all it's little valleys and pits is what could make it hard to get rid of gluten. But sandblasting removes the whole surface layer...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free For 5 Years, 10 Years, Or More?
GFinDC replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hmmm, it doesn't really sound like it's hard to pinpoint. If you are having reactions to soy then purty much seems you shouldn't eat it at all. Why not give it a pass for 6 months and see if you feel better? -
I have ridges lengthwise on my fingernails. I haven't found anything to "help" them. There are a couple of long thread about fingernails issues on the board. If you look them up will find lots of info/theories.

ARCHIVED My Story
GFinDC replied to scottyg354's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Scotty, Hashimoto's is caused by antibodies that attack the thyroid. People on here report sometimes being hypo and sometimes being hyper with Hashimoto's. It seems the attack on the thyroid can cause both extremes. Possibly dying thyroid cells let off more thyroid hormone as they expire, creating hyper symptoms. Kind of a last gasp effect. Eventually... -

ARCHIVED Help! Reintroducing Soy
GFinDC replied to healinginprogress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I suggest you give it a couple weeks before you start adding suspect foods. You want to be at least somewhat healed and feeling as good as you can before you throw a possible poison down your gullet. Plus if you are feeling better you are more likely to notice/detect the negative reactions from a food. Your system needs time to adjust and settle down after... -
ARCHIVED So Far, Soy...bad :(
GFinDC replied to healinginprogress's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You are re-introducing soy pretty quickly (4 days). IMHO it would be better to wait several months before trying something with a known risk. In the meantime you could concentrate on adding foods (slowly) that you don't believe will sicken you. That way (if you are right) you are giving your body a good chance to heal and recover. Soy is one of the top... -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzyme Supplement - Stomach Pain
GFinDC replied to Craig E's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I suggest she stop the Digest Gold for a while and see if that clears up the problem. The thing is, we can be sensitive (food wise) to any ingredient/chemical. So the simplest thing is to eliminate any items with multiple ingredients and see what happens. -
ARCHIVED Nervous Newbie Needs Advice
GFinDC replied to PMC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Actually, it is very possible to have a positive antibody test and a negative biopsy. Lots of posts on this board about that happening. I think what Divamomma meant to express is that positive antibodies are a sign of problems, wether or not the biopsy confirms villi damage. I hope she doesn't smack me up the side of the head for that! :-) The enteroscope... -

I don't know what your diet is like now. But a whole foods diet is a real good way to start on the gluten-free road. whole foods like meats, whole vegetables, whole fruits etc. Also take a good look at any vitamin pills or meds you take, and consider eliminating them for a while to see if it helps. How about things you are drinking, like juices, sodas...

ARCHIVED Omg, Northern Va Folks -- Udi's Bread!
GFinDC replied to Monklady123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The Safeway at Nutley St in VA has a gluten free section right at the entrance up front. This is new, they didn't use to have a warm gluten free section but had a small freezer section. I don't remember if they had Udis in the freezer now or not. I think they do, and maybe Rudi's also. They installed 2 large shelve units of gluten-free products not long... -

GFinDC replied to Jennhaz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the site NRHL! You may just be in the right place. Celic can cause nerves symptoms in a couple of ways. One is impacts on the brain and is known as gluten ataxia. Lots of info on that around if you do a search for gluten ataxia. Another possible problem is mal-absorption which can cause your body to be short on vitamins and minerals that it... -
The alochol isn't nessecary, you can just use soap and water to clean. Gluten is not a germ so it doesn't need to be sterilized. Now the alcohol might come in handy to clean the insides of you tho, as long as it is gluten-free alcohol. There are gluten-free beers around, most wine is safe and also tequila and rums, potato vodkas and some bourbons. There...

Oh, its all just the horribleness of life. You know, sometimes the stamps don't stick on the envelopes right, and the birds don't just sing beyootiful tunes but they also poopeth on your head, or right in your eye, and then the tax season on the calendar always seems to come around right after it finally warms up. They could at least make us pay taxes in... -
I was always hot as a kid and later in life too. I wore a t-shirt when doing work outdoors in the winter snow while my brothers were wearing coats and gloves. Always turning down the thermostat on the heater after the wife-unit had turned it up not long before. It wasn't a popular move on my part. Then I started having night sweats years later when...

ARCHIVED Should I Be Tested?
GFinDC replied to JenHarris's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sounds like celiac symptoms to me too. There are lots more symptoms that "CAN" be present also, but celiac is not a one size fits all as far as symptoms go. Some people have none, zero, nada, goose egg symptoms, but they still have celiac and still are being damaged. Look up silent celiac for info. You can get the blood antibody testing done first.... -
