  1. This scenario, unfortunately, is fairly common. It only takes one positive blood test result to mean that you may have celiac disease, and although a negative biopsy may technically rule this out for now, it could still mean that you've simply caught this early, before it has caused you to have damaged villi. It is also possible that your GI doctor...
  2. There may be a benefit if a diagnosis helps you to stay on a gluten-free diet, as some people without a formal diagnosis may lean towards cheating on their diets. Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would l...
  3. Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms go away on a gluten-free diet it would likely signal NCGS. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study r...
  4. Be sure your meds are gluten-free. You can search this site for prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down...
  5. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The...
  6. This article might be helpful, but best to skip the wafer and just take the wine:
  7. The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium. Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend...
  8. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day: Approximately 10x more people have non-celiac gluten sensitivity than have celiac disease, but there isn’t yet a test for NCGS. If your symptoms g...

  10. If you have a fear of eating you might start with preparing everything you eat yourself. By taking full control over your diet, including the shopping, it may help you deal with the anxiety you have that seems to be triggered when you eat. Seeing a therapist might also be helpful.
  11. Thank you for sharing this, and I found it on their web site here: https://springfieldnutra.com/en/products/ferrincell/

  13. Getting more direct sunlight daily may help. Proper absorption of vitamin D is influenced by various nutrients, and ensuring an adequate intake of these nutrients is important for optimal utilization of vitamin D in the body. Here are some key nutrients that play a role in vitamin D absorption: Calcium: Calcium and vitamin D work synergistically...
  14. This is just research on this flour, not a proclamation that it will ever be used.
  15. Celiac.com 12/14/2023 - Mondelez International, Inc.'s renowned brand, Oreo, is set to introduce a delightful addition to its gluten-free lineup with the launch of certified gluten-free Golden Oreo Cookies. Emerging as the third standout...

  17. If you are extremely sensitive, then it's better safe than sorry--consider wearing a mask. By the way, this company makes a gluten-free all purpose flour that supposedly makes great GF calzones: https://gfjules.com/recipes/gluten-free-calzone-recipe/
  18. The Barilla pasta might be available at Target.
  19. So far, after a few decades of running this site, I've not seen any evidence that those with celiac disease need to fear plastic wrap as a source of gluten contamination.
  20. If you were not eating gluten before the endoscopy for celiac disease, then your results could be a false negative--so you may have celiac disease, especially if you have the genetic markers, and symptoms when you eat gluten (although many people don't have obvious symptoms). If your symptoms get milder when you go gluten-free it can be another indication...
  21. This article might be helpful. It breaks down each type of test, and what a positive results means in terms of the probability that you might have celiac disease. Be sure that you keep eating gluten daily until all tests for celiac disease are completed, because going gluten-free before these tests can create false negative results.
  22. A good, reasonably priced, and readily available substitute for your macaroni noodles would be Barilla GF pasta: https://www.barilla.com/en-us/products/pasta/gluten-free/gluten-free-elbows For the bread, the very best deal I've found is at Costco where you can get 2 loaves of Franz GF Bread for around $5 per loaf.
  23. 24. Costco is good about returns...unfortunately I can't see the USA ingredients on their Web site. This article may be helpful, but again, it is for the USA:
  25. Usually you can select the image and do a control-C to copy it, then put your cursor in the box and do a control-v to paste it. It sounds like they are giving you a blanket cover your butt statement, and the ham could be naturally gluten-free, but I can't say for sure, obviously. I hate it when this happens!
